TAMRON AF 90mm f/2, All good !

One of the best lens for pentax.

I don’t have much to add to other comments but i just wanted to say this is a great lens. Photos are crystal clear and while i don’t like this word it produces a very nice ‘bokeh’. It’s unlikely anyone would regret buying this lens.

Great lens, take brilliant close ups and is great for portraits too.

Very tightly assembled and feels tough but best of all, it as i expected.

Fantastic lens for both macro and portrait.

Lens came two days after ordering it. Really pleased with the photos i have taken with it. Would reccomend this seller.

Excellent quality and remarkable value for money for a versatile short telephoto lens with macro capability.

This is well worth the money. Its great for insect photos as you can keep a bit of a distance away. Flowers look great as well, can also be used as a telephoto lens.

I’ve had time to put it through its paces and it passed with flying colours. I’ve not bothered to post any technical stuff as this is covered in other reviews.

Great lens with great clarity and bokeh. Easy to manage and good for use hand held. A little bit on the heavy side but well worth it for the price.

An excellent lens, very smooth and sharp. As well as good for macro it also is very good as a portrait lens.

Get it before it’s discontinued. The newer version isn’t actually better, it’s just made differently (cheaper), and the vr (vibration reduction) it offers is simply down to a sleeker focusing motor, which is really irrelevent to a lens like this, where manual focus is essential. The 90mm (in full frame format) was once considered optimal for portraiture (head and shoulders filling frame are aesthetically represented in 3d without telescopic compression), but stepping outside the pigeonhole turns this into a landscape detail lens and a close-up macro. If you’re used to zoom lenses to frame yourt shots you’ll miss the whole point here: this lens makes you walk around your subject getting the best frame the old fashioned way, which is better. You’ll take less bad ‘record’ pics and more good ‘arty’ ones. Used with the current slew of half-frame dslrs, the effective view is 135mm — in years past considered the perfect medium telephoto for candids and details. Best of both worlds in one fixed prime lens.

It took some time to get used to macro lens, but no it is my favourite one, absolutely love it.

I’ve used the tamron 90mm f2. 8 across all 4 mounts, currently using the minolta/sony mount version. This would probably rate as one of the most useful, and pleasing lenses i’ve ever used over quite a long period of time. As well as an excellent macro lens with 1:1 magnification, on a 1. 5x crop sensor you get an extremely useful candid focal length of 135mm. Almost perfect for street/candid shooting. As a dual purpose lens this is simply a stunning offering from tamron at a very respectable price. Pictures are sharp and show excellent contrast at f2. 8 across the frame, with a wonderful blur effect for portrait shooting the tamron has rightly earned a reputation second to none for this type of photography. I’ll provide a summary of pros and conspro points:+ good build (plastic but decent plastic) with a nice grip for focus and metal mount.

Use it with my d3300, amazing lens. Can use it for portrait too.

I use this on a sony a230 and a55. I (and many others) consider this the best standard macro out there. It’s super sharp wide open, stopped down it is superb. It has a small dof for cool macro work and the bokeh is very smooth and creamy, almost like the sony 135mm stf (google it). The af isn’t the best, but i mf when doing macros since it is som much more accurate. When i do portraits with it or general use i just use the limiter. It turns the af speed from poor to decent. For this price and giving this much performance, nothing beats it.

Perfect for dental photography.

Reasonably good build quality especially considering the price. Perhaps a little slow on focus but that is a really minor niggle.

Impressed with results so far, very nice photos using macro and as a mid range telephoto. Review should be taken with a pinch of salt as it’s my most expensive lens yet but images don’t disappoint compared to my well regarded 50mm f1.

For the price, i doubt you’ll find a macro lens out there better. The manual zoom function is awesome as it allows you to be very precise. I’ve heard a lot about the grinding noise of the auto focus, i’ve had no probs with that. It may be a little loud when focusing but, when you have the radio on or other background noise you’ll struggle to hear it.

I had a tamron macro years ago but sold it when i switched camera brands. I have never been happy with the results from its replacement, even though that replacement was double the cost of this tamron. Just out of interest, i borrowed a friends’ tamron macro (but an older model) and this confirmed that it wasn’t just me. That did it and i ordered the 90mm tamron and am really pleased with it. I decided against the more expensive model as i’m not bothered about usm and usually use my macro lens on a tripod, therefore switching off vr compensation on a lens. Having said that, i have used this lens without a tripod and it is pin sharp. I can’t see why anyone would want to pay more.

Got this for my nikon d90 and my kids d3000 and d3100. Initial finding are very favourable. Great build quality yet light-ish, nice controla and pretty good focussing all round. Image quality is perfect for my use in art retail and this has to be one of the best value lenses around at the moment.

Brilliant lens, having read all the reviews on macro lenses, i chose the tamron. I am delighted with the performance for both close up work and portraits.

Good depth of field and excellent macro.

A new product, i dare say is 5 stars. I bought second hand at a reasonably reduced price and whilst the lens works to my expectations it has a very grainy sound when manually focusing as though some dirt or grit is fouling the telescopic mechanism. Time will tell if it proves a problem or not. If you buy new however this can be a very good lens, i have never owned anything more expensive so cannot relate to that. Macro work with flowers and insects is terrific.

Good quality lens but barely macro. It doesn’t produce images close to what you see online as it is only a 1:1 lens, 1cm in the real world is 1cm on screen. It is also very noise when autofocus is on so good luck trying to get good pictures of insects. That being said, i did get some very detailed shots of furniture down to individual threads in pillows and some good pictures of the family cat.

Great lens and perfect for my entry into macro photography.

This lens is great for close up photography and portraits, it is lightweight and has fast focussing at a great affordable price.

I am not an expert by any stretch of the imagination but i think that this lens is brilliant. I would, however, pay more attention to reviews of others who would have a better knowledge than i would have.

Why pay a shedload more on a nikon lens when you can get one as good as this for a good price.

Performs as good as any lens in my bag and a fraction of the price of lenses from branded camera manufacturers. I would highly recommend this lens to any budding macro photographer.

I have been blown away with the optical clarity of this lens. A little different to a kit lens, this lens takes a little getting used to but perseverance has really paid dividends. I am now taking photographs that i had previously just dreamed of.

I have used this tamron 90mm macro lens, mainly for close up work on flowers, and various plants. Very impressed with the optical performance, although i am usually using the manual mode, with my nikon d600 on a tripod. No complaints so far, but i will see how this lens performs long term.

This lens is very good, and i am extremely pleased with it.

Deliverd on time and in loads of protective packaging. Brilliant lense an must for your sony kit. Its a good price too and tamron always manufacture quality lenses. Only critisism is its a bit noisy and could frighten of insects although the 90mm allows you to pull back from the subject a little. I have not yet found it a hinderance but undoubtedly tamron will fix this in the future. A very competitive price and an excellent lense.
