Fujifilm Fujinon XF14mm F2 – Beautifully built

A fantastic lens my constant companion.
Excellent lens, very sharp, not too big.
Far and away the best super-wide lens i have ever owned. Edges and corners particularly, a traditional weakness of this type of lens, are astonishing – they are sharper and less distorted than the centre frame of my old mk 1 canon 16-35mm f2. 8 l usm, which has since been utterly humiliated in every conceivable area of performance by this 14mm lens from fuji. I cannot overstate the case: absolutely thumped. The only super-wide lens i ever owned that even came close was an old voigtlander 21mm f4, but i have come to understand that i was lucky enough to get a good one, and that many were not so lucky. This lens is shockingly good and in my view redefines what is possible with lenses going this wide. Auto focus is good, but not flawless, accurate but a little slow and doesn’t like lowlight. Lens is heavy, but then it is fast and packed with good glass. Plastic lenshood isn’t impressive and is a pain putting on and taking off – the plastic flexes and isn’t rigid enough for the bayonet-type fitting.
A super sharp lens,in my case used on my x pro 1,where it remains 99% of the time. Great for landscape or architecture, pin sharp especially from f5. 6-f11,i tend not to use mine down to f2. 8 but i’m sure it’s more than capable. Build quality is superb, typical of the fuji x series.
Optically corrected for distortion, this is one of the ‘magic’ xf lenses. Beautiful clean sharp images, lovely close minimum focal distance for creative shots, pull-back manual focus ring, this lens is one of my favourites.
Livraison rapide, objectif conforme à mes attentes.

- A Must!

Its early days with this lens but so far it find it amazingly simple to use and its clarity is so pure and seems on a par with the leica lenses in my binoculars.
This is a superb lens that lives up to the hype from the web reviews that are out there. I have used wide angles from a variety of manufacturers over the years, including canon, nikon, minolta, sigma, tamron and tokina. This is the best i have used so far. On the fuji x system it equates to 21mm as a 35mm equivalent focal length. This is nice and wide though of course not as wide as the fuji wide angle zoom also offered as part of the x system of lenses or the samyang/rokinon 8mm fisheye (also an excellent lens). The field of view offered is wide and pleasant to the eye. Distortion is incredibly well controlled and there is little to no sign of chromatic abberation or colour fringeing. Sharpness is spot on – very high resolution in the image centre at all apertures including wide open. Corners are sharp wide open but sharpen up to very good levels from about f4. This is therefore a great architectural, travel or landscape lens that offers very high resolution and excellent low distortion characteristics.
I tried this out on my fuji xt1 and i found nice, crisp images. It seemed to work a treat in low light conditions too without any flash. I haven’t tried it out on my xpro 1 yet but i should imagine that it will produce good results too. It has a decent weight with the above mentioned body. Initially i bought this to try out some landscape photography in portugal (finally a little holiday for me) but decided against that idea as i couldn’t bear the thought of my xt1 work camera and or lenses getting lost or stolen so instead i will take my handy fuji x100 with it’s fixed 23mm (approx. The 14mm lens isn’t a plaything for me, it’s part of my fuji range which suffices for my work needs (gigs, theatre, bands, group photography). Yes, i do have a full body canon with relevant lenses and a very old but fast nikon for other work but my fujis are pretty much my constants as they’re light and easier to carry. Hope this little review helps. Any questions feel free to ask and i’ll be happy to help where possible.
This lens is a superb performer and produces lovely distortion-free 21mm equivalent images on the x series cameras. I also shoot with the leica m system, and this lens (along with others in the fuji range) runs the leica glass very close, and of course costs much less. Nicely made too, and yet so light.
This is a highly priced lens that i reckon is not going to get much cheaper to purchase as the months and years go by. The reason for this is that it’s absolutely superb in build and optical performance and is a joy to use. I’ve yet to read a single unflattering review written about it. So whenever you buy it, you will certainly feel as though you’ve had your money’s worth and i suspect may also wish you’d acted sooner. Wide-angled lenses are complex to manufacture by their very nature and are especially prone to distortion and other flaws. But you would never think so to look at the results from this one. The only blemish visible to my eyes was heavy vignetting on raw files. But lightroom, capture one, silkypix or any of the other raw converters can remove it easily without any scars left behind afterwards. The virtual absence of distortion without the need for post processing is quite remarkable. I own a copy of the olympus m.

Product Overview
Designed to capture images rich in perspective, this ultra wide-angle lens with its extreme angle of view is the ideal choice. With minimized distortion, and high resolution from the center to the periphery of the image frame, this lens has the versatility to capture not only powerful landscape and architectural photos, but also amazing image quality when shooting indoors in confined spaces.
Advanced Optical Design
Advanced optical design has been used to overcome the distortion-prone tendency of ultra wide-angle lenses to control distortion without digital correction. This contributes to achieving high resolution to all corners of this ultra wide-angle lens.

Beautifully built, deadly sharp even wide open, great wide aperture for astro photography. So tactile as a metal lens compared to the plastic options of other manufacturers. I have compared this to the cheaper samyang 12mm f2 manual focus lens. Pros:the fuji:-benefits from the in-camera correction of distortion and chromatic aberrations. The manual focus on this lens is by sliding the focus in back so much better than the body switch for other lenses. Fast auto-focussuperb build qualityextra stop over the samyangthe samyang:-12mm is so much wider than 14mm, much more than the 2mm might suggest. Wonderful for cityscapes and landscapesgreat build quality. Pretty good distortion controlsuperb for astro photographypricecons:fuji:not wide enough for wide angle freaks like me, not normal enough for street photography compared to a 18mm or 23mmpricesamyangawful focussing scale and weird infinity mark. You have to rely on focus peaking to get accurate landscape focus which is not always easy in astro-photography modeflimsy lens hoodstill love the 14mm though.
