SteelSeries Rival 300 – It’s big but it’s good.
This is a fantastic mousepurchased this after my previous mouse had broke after pretty intense use. The mouse is a fairly regular sized mouse – if your hands are fairly large then you might have some comfortability issues with the mouse, but it’s still versatile. The fade colour scheme on the amazon listing looks really good, but it doesn’t pop out as much in real life. Over all, the mouse is accurate. It lacks numerous weights which others do, but this is a slightly heavier mouse.
This mouse is absolutely incredible, with zero hardware acceleration and pin point cpi, this mouse performs so well. There’s no other design quite like it either, being the ‘fade’ skin from cs:go. Which, if you play the game, you can tell this mouse and the game go hand in hand.
Great product, as a mouse it’s superb. The decoration however come off very easily with the minimalist of things. I wear a ring on my third finger on right hand and has scratched the hell out of it but hasn’t on other mouses like this.
It is the best mouse i ever owned, it was recommended to me by my friend and although i was sceptical about the price, it is definitely more than worth it.
Very good mousei had a razer deathadder which was a decent mouse. But i wanted a new mouse so i got this and i’ve had it like a month and it’s done good. The only bad thing is the length of the wire but it’s not a huge deal.

I never knew that the software you need to use it was so complex the colours and the gamesense really make this mouse unique and the amazing mouse straightener setting. The only disappointment is the colour because its more of a matte colour instead of the metallic thats shown in the picture. Its also only 80% fade as the bottom shows lots of grey,.
The mouse fits just right in my large sized hands due to its long and deep design and it’s lightweight and is easy to get precise with. When i first read optical, i thought that it would track poorly but after using i found that not only did it exceed expectations but it actually allows me to lift off the surface with minimal effort which other optical sensors around this price point don’t do (unless i just don’t have enough experience with them). I play games at 800 dpi and it feels really smooth. I can’t tell much difference between the rubber on the original rival and the new soft feel plastic on this but i assume that others might and it will definitely wear less. My rubber has started to wear and i only had it for a few months. However, i am slightly disappointed in the fade finish as it does look a lot better in photos than in person. I was expecting a glossy finish but i got a metallic matte that looks slightly faded (stop it). I also noticed a silver strip through the middle around the mouse wheel where they didn’t actually apply any paint. This shouldn’t throw you off however because it is still a nice mouse and it’s worth the extra tenner to the normal black 300.
It’s just mine or do you have the same problem with the sensor. Sometimes(in game) it jumps left or right for no reason. Don’t know where the problem comes from.
Pros: sensor performance, software, design and looks, overall build quality, gamesensecons: not suited for left-handers, price, no weight adjustmentbuild quality: 9/10design & looks: 10/10performance: 9/10software: 10/10value: 8/10my final rating: 9/10review date: december 2016review price: £57first of all i would like to thank steelseries for sending me the mouse for review. After having reviewed other steelseries gear and other mice, i was intrigued to see how the rival 300 would perform and how the counter strike global offensive (cs:go) variant of the rival 300 would lookyou can purchase the rival 300 cs:go fade mouse on amazonuk for around £57 & amazonusa for $70. These prices are slightly higher than the non-branded and plain looking rival 300 mice, which can be found on amazonuk for £50 and amazonusa for $53 – you’re therefore paying a little extra for a skin. Where have you heard that before. Counter strike of coursefull specs of the mouse can be found on steelseries’ website. Build qualitywithin the packaging of the rival 300 cs:go fade edition you’ll find only the mouse and a set of quite useless manuals, which essentially tell you to go online to download drivers. I’m not sure about the logic there from steelseries, as they might as well save money on packaging and documents, than including a very useless paper – think of the treeslet’s jump straight to the build quality of the mouse, which in its entirety is very good. The mouse is terminated by a silver-plated usb which is connected to the mouse itself by a non-braided cable. It would have been nice to see a gold-plated usb and braided cable included here. Moving to the mouse itself, it has a beautiful fade colour, starting from gold/yellow at the tip of the mouse to purple by the palm of the mouse.
It’s large size would be a problem for someone with small to normal sized hands. The mouse’s light colour means it shows the dirt easily and the paint flakes off too easily.
I had a rival 300 before, but sold it to a friend, and picked up a razer deathadder chroma, the chroma was a fantastic mouse, but a little too small for my liking, so i was looking to pick up another mouse, and what other to buy than another 300, this time the fade, its easily my favourite mouse to use and can only ever see me going to something like a zowie because i have an occasional issue with the sensor on the 300. The sensor issue mentioned happens when you make a quick flick with the mouse and the cursor with jolt off to the top or bottom of the screen, and that’s pretty annoying when playing cs:go. I read about changing firmware etc. But nothing has worked for me so far.
First of all it looks great. I haven’t had any of the chipping or fading of the paint (yet) that any of the other reviews say. The mouse is quite large which fits my hand well but could maybe too big for others. The performance has been great for playing cs-go and the steel series engine software allows you to customise the mouse further with lighting effects and sensitivity even specific to each game. Initially it took some getting used to the mouse 4 & 5 buttons as the edge of them are have a quite sharp ridge on them. But this could just be preference. I have also experienced issues with the mouse disconnecting and reconnecting randomly. This can be while browsing the internet or also mid round in csgo.
Great product, amazon delivery let the product down though. Here are the specifications for the SteelSeries Rival 300:
- Zero Hardware Acceleration – precise tracking at all speeds
- Six programmable buttons (including CPI)
- Configurable resolution up to 6,500 CPI
- 30 million click switches
- 16.8 million color, 2 zone illumination

Tbh felt a bit cheap quality. Didn’t like the scroll wheel felt very cheap. Definitely can find better for the price. However in terms of tracking was very accurate. Was also a decent fit into my hands. Comfortable to play my favorite (csgo lol) shooter with. I guess that’s what it’s made for.
Amazing product and good quality.
Steelseries released a driver update that messed with the dpi driver and it randomly changes speed at which it moves.
Reviews from purchasers :
