Razer widow 2013 Expert Mechanical Keyboard, Very good keyboard for gaming and more

This keyboard is a heavier than a brick. Rock solid, types really really well. It is quite noisy but it lets people around you know that you mean business when you are typing. The macro keys on the side are very useful if used properly for gaming. You do have to get used to the keyboard if you are coming from a normal keyboard without macro keys.

Great mechanical keyboard, razer always know what they are doing. Keys feel nice and tactile, that actuation point is perfect for both typing and gaming. The 5 macro buttons on the side are great and you gain access to razer synapse which lets you set up the entire layout of the keyboard (and mouse if you bought a razer one). Recommended for any gamer wanting to switch from membrane type keyboards.

This is the key board to have. It was hard to get and i am so pleased that i purchased it.

As most of the reviews of this keyboard say, it is a wonderful keyboard, it feels great, and to me sounds great too. However, it is excessively loud, so if you want to play games late at night and not wake anyone up, this may not be the right keyboard for you. The only other problem i had was the ‘8’ key felt a little spongey – this was fixed in a very manly fashion by mashing the key until it felt better again.

Takes a week or so to get used to the placement of the keys, due to there being the additional macro keys along the left hand side. This said, really happy with the keyboard as a whole, it’s responsive and excellent for gaming. Worth the money for sure, 5 stars from me.

The software works great with so much flexibility. I love the feel of the keys and the satisfying sound they make every press.

This keyboard has been serving me for years and i love it. Very solid build and i can’t live without the very handy usb, headphone & microphone jacks on the right side. Customisable presets for certain activities made it suitable for windows gaming. Biggest flaw in this is the driver. It’s windows-only driver so you can’t customise the bindings on linux (not sure about osx) or make use of the per-application profile system but it still works in basic mode for that platform.

“exactly what i wanted
, All you can really hope for.
, Very good keyboard for gaming and more

Didn’t read properly but just saying this is the version without the backlit keys for anyone who might buy it blindly like i did. Other than that great keyboard, takes time to get used to, mechanical sound has been annoying for everyone in my family but me xdthe control key seems to get stuck now and then but can be fixed easily.

Over view: the board and keys are made of a tough feeling plastic, the cable is covered with a braided fiber to protect it from damage and the mechanical keys give a very positive and tactile feed back. I bought this keyboard primarily for gaming but typing on it is so easy and smooth that it would also be perfect for and office or home environment. As for the price, some people could say that it is a lot to pay for a keyboard with not a massive range of features, but that is one of the reasons that i like it is that it is easy to use and not cloged up with features but gives you the ones that you really need, also i feel that due to its high quality feel that it will easily last long enough to make up for the price. The keys: they are smooth and easy to press and, in my opinion, have very good spacing (the distance between each key is just right to type with). The features: this keyboard has an easy access usb pass through and headphone and mic pass though on the right hand side of the board. There are five programable macro keys and there are also some media keys on the f keys. Pros:mechanical keys (more robust and tactile feel)easy to use macro keysbraided cablerobust and ‘weighty’ feelrazer product (more likely to be well made and so last longer)sleek design (if you want to call it that)usb and audio pass thoughcons:some could say that it is over priced, but i think it is going to be worth it. Edit: a few months down the line with no complaints. Only thing i noticed was that you can definitely tell when you’ve pressed the keys and so does everyone else. The click is pretty loud, i don’t mind because i have a unidirectional mic that cuts it out, but if you don’t like the sound and don’t mind a us lay out then there is always the silent version that doesn’t click like a typewriter.

I love everything about this keyboard, the ‘click’ sound just makes me want to type things all the time, but i dont really type much, just mash qwer on league of legends :d the quality and price of this product are just 2nd to none, i can see why people rate razer products so high.

The build quality on show here is incredible. Updating from the terrible keyboard i had to this may be more of a change than most people, however the blackwidow is without a doubt in a different league to anything i’ve ever had before. It feels great to use all round. Pros:mechanical keys have the perfect tactical feel desired. Excellent robust build quality throughout – including solid braided cable. Usb, headphone and mic slotsattractive designeasy to use macro keys. It seems justified to me though, well worth the price.

Figuring it was time that i upgraded my current keyboard (a logitech g5 i’ve had for a few years now), i decided to go the mechanical route, and went razer because i typically like their peripheral design and their build quality. So i decided to go for the blackwidow since i’m no longer a fan of having lights everywhere, and i appreciate the minimalistic yet distinct design. So what do i think?comfort – 4/5-the keys are light to touch and give a very responsive click when you type, it feels very smooth and fluid. These clicks are quite loud, as they are with most mechanical keyboards, so take that into account if you plan on buying one. My only gripe is the lack of a wrist rest, or option thereof. I find having the keyboard on its retractable legs somewhat solves the issue, but i’d still prefer having a wrist rest. Design – 5/5-minimal graphic designs and only a single razer symbol, the visibility of which is optional. Exactly what i was looking for. Where i was once wowed by bright lights and edgy design, these days i’m more inclined to purchase simple yet stylish peripherals. The blackwidow fits this perfectly.

Such a good product, it arrived sharpish, well packaged and ready to plugged inthe only downside is if your a night time gamer or like gaming in a dark surrounding then it doesn’t help that the keys on this model aren’t lit up. Lucky for me i have a s*** ton of blue lighting coming from the inside of my pc. So take that into consideration before buying.

Very good product and i’m very happy with it because i’m a gamer and a student so i type a lot and this keyboard is very good for typing, would recommend to other people.

This thing is a dream to type and game on, the noise is loud so beware of rage on skype but to me it is a lovely sound it is by far the best keyboard i have ever used and would recommend it to anyone100/100.

The area with the letters was a bit smaller than my previous, and i keep hitting the macros keys accidentally, but that can be catered for, and it not a problem. The sound is great, and it looks good. However one problem i have had with it is that after a week or so of use, some of the print on the keys are already fading, especially the ‘w, a, s, d, e’ keys and the ‘shift’ and ‘ctrl’ keys. Other than this problem i am very happy with this keyboard.

Overview:this keyboard is a really well put-together bit of kit. The build quality is second to none, and i can see it lasting for a very long time. Even thought i bought this for gaming, it comes in handy for typing long texts as well. The mechanical keys make typing very easy. Pros:- mechanical keys (very good quality as far as i can see)- sturdy- plug-through usb, headphone and microphone jacks (perfect for plugging in headsets)- macro system, very easy to use (with razer synapse)- in-software programmable sensitivity and acceleration- media keys accessible with an ‘fn’ key on the lower middle-right of the keyboardcons:- obviously the price- sometimes the enter key gets jammed computer-side, and when the usb(s) are unplugged and put back in again, the computer fails to recognize the keyboard existsoverall, this is a really fine keyboard. If you’re looking for something tactile, go for this.

I never thought a mechanical keyboard would be a big difference from a regular keyboard. This is a beautiful keyboard.

Would recommend other mechanical keyboards over this one. The razer brand definitely played a big part over how expensive it is. The keys feel and sound slightly cheap. Any gamers who jump to razor products i recommend doing more research first. Razor products are usually more expensive and offer nothing more (often even less) than other products.

After making various upgrades to my pc recently to facilitate a faster and more creative working environment, my old dell keyboard seemed like the weak link. I’m used to paying £20-£30 for a decent keyboard, so the razer was a big jump and an initially jarring change in expectations. Having received and used it for a few days i can heartily recommend it. The key presses have a very different feel from regular, spongy keyboard keys; these are definite and satisfying presses with a pleasing and distinct sound. I’m not quite sure why, but i do seem to generally type faster on the razer. Due to the row of macro buttons on the far left, i haven’t quite been able to stop thinking they are ctrl, shift etc, when i’m in the flow of typing and not looking at the keys. I regularly make errors as i reach for ctrl and get a macro key instead. I’d have preferred the macro keys to be on the far right or between the main keys and the numpad, but i’m sure i’ll get used to seeking left ctrl, left shift, caps lock etc. A vertical row further in than i’m used to. It’s more jarring in these early stages because i have a regular keyboard at work, which means the furthest left keys for 8 hours a day are the ones you’d expect.

I nearly cancelled this delivery after checking back and seeing that the images were of a us keyboard with an ansi layout. On delivery, this is a uk keyboard, and has an iso layout (enter key over 2 rows, rather than 1 with the \ an | above it). A great keyboard, although i did hit a couple of problems installing synapse update for it (and also with boot menus and multi-keyscan) – though i fixed the synapse problem quite quickly, and have also contacted razer for support with the boot menu option. But the main thing is that this is actually a uk keyboard layout – which is great. Am loving the keyboard, probably going to hate it when i go back to work as i’ve a mushy rubber dome one there rather than a mechanical keyboard. Markings are a little confusing – where you’d normally have the shifted key above the main thing (so, £ above the 3) these are the other way round.

This is the only mechanical keyboard i have ever used so my experience is purely of this keyboard alone. However, it is absolutely fantastic from what i have used of it. I love the macro buttons, they’re very convenient and the sounds when typing could not be better. Other people may find the clicking sound that it makes very annoying but when you’re the one using it, it is very satisfying. The keyboard is very well built and has a nice weight to it. There is no flimsiness in this keyboard at all. This is a cherry mx blue keyboard so you can always replace the key caps with personal caps.

I moved to this from a microsoft sidewinder x4, i must say this keyboard feels amazing and looks amazing and i can highly reccomend this for anyone contemplating getting this.

I’ve had a razer headset for a while now and given my new gaming pc i thought it was only right i treated myself to a gaming keyboard. I’ve always liked the idea of mechanical keyboards and have heard about their faster response time and so on. I had my eyes on this one for a while but was still hesitant to purchase it. In the end i did and now i couldn’t go back. The quality is great and the keyboard itself has a sturdy ‘weighty’ feel. The different functions are also great although i haven’t quite educated myself to use the macros yet. As usual great razer quality and packaging. You will need to install razer synapse to manage the keyboards functions but it’s no real pain.

It feels so responsive and easy to type with, however like some have said before touch typing is a little weird for me since there are macro keys instead of the end of the keyboard, but it only takes a glance on the keyboard to know where my fingers are, so that’s not really a problem. Pros:-as i did not get this keyboard from amazon i will put down the price as a pro since it was only for £60 and for a razer mechanical keyboard i consider that a bargain. -braided cable, keeps all the wires neat, and not in a multiple wired mess. -mechanical keys feel tactile and more responsive than the k120 (my previous keyboard)-great responsive feeling whilst gaming, and am not limited by 4 consecutive key presses, which was an annoyance when playing an fps shooter online, i would get stuck in one place, and not be able to move unless i let go of a button and press the wasd buttons again, well not anymore. Cons:-none as of yet, since i have just recently received the keyboard. The keyboard does have the ability to light up the razer logo, which is kind of cool. The pictures are not of the actual product, since they are of the us layout, if you buy the uk layout, that is precisely what you will get, and i for one am glad this is the case, i was dreading getting a smaller enter button since i was used to the bigger one, but my worries were allayed as i saw the big enter button, and a smaller shift button that in the pictures. The ‘@’ button is also in the right place instead of on the the number ‘2’. All in all this keyboard is as advertised, it registers a button as soon as the buttons click, so you don’t really need to press the buttons all the way down, that is something i’d like to get used to, since i am used to pressing buttons all the way down, but i don’t think that’s really a big deal. All in all an excellent keyboard, my first mechanical keyboard, since i had never considered it, until i saw it at a decent price, and snagged it just in time (out of stock as soon as i ordered it) and i am glad i did, if i hesitated even for a minute, i would have missed my chance to ever own a razer mechanical keyboard with cherry mx blue switches, since the new razer keyboards are using their own switches, which aren’t proven.

He is an extreme gamer, the noise is quite loud sounds like a type writer but he enjoys typing on it.

This is the first mechanical keyboard i have bought, after doing some research, this seemed like the best option for me. Even though the led under the razer logo is green and doesnt match any of the other lights on my rig. None the less, the keyboard itself came a lot earlier than expected, it feels amazing to type on, the cherry mx blues feel perfect for me. It will take some getting used to after only using membrane keyboards my entire life, but i feel that the product will be amazing to work with once i am used to it. I bought this product in preparation for going to university where i will be doing a lot of programming and i can foresee this getting a lot of use. Only time will tell if it stands the test of time, and the rage, of a programmerall in all, this feels like a good product to work with after taking a bit to get used to. The product was delivered quickly and with the box in very good condition. The only way i would’ve given this 5/5 would be if it had an extra usb port or changeable led colours. Note: anyone buying the uk layout version, yes this is the version with the £ on the 3 key, the # next to the enter and so on, even though the pictures do not show it. Here is an image of mine: http://i.

After a lot of research and discussion this keyboard was chosen. It is very good for gaming, and as an added bonus makes typing easier. It is a little bit longer than the keyboard used before, but this has not been a problem. Initially, when using the shift key one of the macro keys was hit, however this didn’t last long. Before purchase the noise from the mechanical keys was a worry. This has not been an issue though – there is clicking but not noticeably and the mic does not pick it up. Quite expensive, although looks as though it will be worth it.

I’ve recently upgraded from the bogstandard dell keyboard, due to it not being able to withstand the furious keymashing required for gaming. I love everything about this keyboard. The programmable macro keys, the built in short cut buttons, the easy access usb headphone and mic ports built into the side and to top it all off, it sounds awesome as you typewhat more could you want in a keyboard?. For me the blackwidow is the one.

I really, really like this keyboard. Admittedly a little loud, but you have to expect that with delicious sounding mechanical goodness. The keys feel really high quality, it doesn’t feel flimsy; that is to say it weighs a damn tonne. There are nice and vibrant, but not overly bright leds adorning the keyboard, and everything is pretty sweet, bar a few small issues. 1) this is a rather personal issue, for me atleast, in that the 5 macro keys (m1 through m5) are on the far left of the keyboard. Why is this problematic, you ask?. Because anyone who touch-types very, very fast as i do will tell you that when your fingers go to the shift/ctrl key, do they go for that key by default?. Because those are usually the most far left keys on the keyboard. Instead, i’ve been accidentally typing one key to the left, recently, often hitting the macro keys instead of tab/shift/ctrl and then pressing the qaz row instead of the wsx row, leading to my typing a vur kujw rgua (a bit like this)2) the spacing between the keys is a little odd. I feel like ` is too far left and f keys are too far to the right, with the escape key sitting uncomfortably above the ` key, rather than nice and snug above the 1 key, like i’m used to. Another problem for me is that the shift key is half of the size of the caps lock key. Shift is always meant to be big, not small. What keyboard needs a gaming button. ‘8/10 – its ok’ -ign’like keyboard with clickclack’ -machinima.

I recently upgraded to this keyboard from a standard keyboard, mechanical is defently the way to go =p. This keyboard is ace i love that you can re-programme any key to whatever you want aswell as your 5 extra fully programmable ones on the left hand side. I would happly pick this keyboard everytime now ive used it very happy indeed.

Have had no complaints, a good gamers keyboard with good features which have been enjoyed by the recipient of the present.

Moving from a membrane keyboard to a mechanical one was like having my hands kissed by angels. If you are worried that it is too much money and might not be worth it, don’t be, this is one damn fantastic keyboard.

I desperately needed a new keyboard as i had my previous hp default keyboard for around 4 years and it wasn’t up to standards for gaming. I bought this keyboard as i had a high budget. To be honest, i think it was worth every penny. The only bad thing is that it is a very loud keyboard and will definitely take a lot of time to get used to. Pros-very slick, smooth feel on the press down of the keysnice structure, will definitely last a few yearshas everything you need (if you’re buying from the uk then the @ sign is not under the 2 and the enter button is two bars high)cons-very loudneeds to be cleaned regularlyno cd included, need to access internet to download drivers.

Despite this being built for gaming it is flawless for office typing aswell, i would reccomend this keyboard to anyone wanting to get into gaming or needs a reliable rugged keyboard with programmable keys.

Still going strong a year later. Is a great gaming keyboard, fast and responsive, programmable macro keys mean it can be personalised to suit your style and needs. The keys make a very satisfying click with each press like an old fashioned keyboard. Every key press is recognised and responded to, no matter how quickly or close to a previous command meaning that the game follows exactly what you tell it to do.
