Logitech G610 Orion Brown Backlit Mechanical Gaming Keyboard, Brilliant keyboard, nice and subtle

I’ve been in the market for a new keyboard for a while and spent a lot of time researching the various options: mechanical or not mechanical, red/brown/blue switches, backlighting or no backlighting – and so on. The g610 is a sober looking keyboard – very simple and understated. It’s a gaming keyboard, but it doesn’t really scream 1337 gamer like so many other options on the market. The backlighting is a neutral white and it can be easily disabled or configured using the logitech gaming software, which i was already using with my logi headset – it’s nice not to have separate programs for my peripherals. The brown switches in this board are somewhere between the red and blue switches in the mx continuum. They’re very tactile without being extremely loud and clicky. I found the reds a bit mushy and the blues were a bit too loud. To be honest, though, i’d recommend visiting a physical shop and trying out some keys for yourself, since it’s very subjective thing. As a developer and sometime gamer, the browns offer a good balance. The media controls are great.
I was looking for a tenkeyless mechanical keyboard with blue switches, sensible white lights and a uk layout. Something nice to use and make general typing more pleasant than the usual run of cheap non-mechanical keyboards. Soon learned that a keyboard of this description was very hard to find, some were not too bad but invariably had a us layout. Eventually settled for the brown switches and full size of the g610, a decison i do not now regret. It is a straightforward, good quality keyboard with excellent switches and fits my purpose very well.
We needed another usb 105 keyboard with proper switches that were reasonably quiet and not over-sensitive, and chose this g610 logitech orion with the cherry ‘brown’ switches. It worked straight out of the box with w7p, with only one single pause for a minute while it installed the usb driver. It has the same standard 105 key uk layout as the sticky old dell it replaces, but the cherry keys give the logitech a much cleaner and more consistent action when typing at speed, with all letters seen and no misses. It will do just fine for general heavy duty typing. The reason we give it only four stars is that i needed to install the logitec software to turn off the default irritating wave effect led back-lighting because we never use back-lighting on any of our machines; it would have been ok if it remembered the back-to-black push button setting, but the default was for irritating waves to be on at each power-up. It lacks some of the custom keys and media keys the dell had, but we never used them, apart from the volume control which this one also has. I also installed the ‘hardware’ update downloaded from logitech that is intended to remove the ‘whine’ some people can hear when the leds are at certain brightnesses. We could not hear it, and the install proceeded without any problems, and we still cannot hear it. The braided usb lead is captive, which i think is a good thing, and likely to be much more reliable than the micro usbs often seen on other keyboards and which we found tended to fail after a few months of our busy office use. I’ve never had a captive lead fail on a keyboard in more than thirty years with many different computers.
Great mechanical keyboard for somebody who is looking for quality without ‘flash’. The build quality is high – very strudy with a metal plate. The key lighting is really nice; i prefere the subtle white over the full rgb but this is just a personal opinion. The key switches and caps feel as expected (i. Great) and the media control keys are extremely useful. It doesn’t have any usb passthroughs or a detachable cable, but perhaps that would be asking too much at this pricepoint.
Bought this for the office as it’s very similar to the g810 i use at home. I love the keyboard, my only complaint is you have to install the software otherwise you can’t control the lighting. This wouldn’t be a problem if it defaulted to a sensible on or off but it constantly cycles. Installing the software requires admin rights.
A great keyboard for anyone who uses a pc/mac for everything. The key lighting and software seems to work okay after multiple windows updates, which is more than i can say for windows.
Keyboard is extremely well built and has some serious weight to it. There’s no way you can go wrong with cherry mx’s. The braided cable though subjective is much more to my liking. The volume control and macro keys are very well laid out. Software is super eay to use and though not as comfortable as a full rgb keyboard, offered more than enough choices to my liking.

If you’re not bothered by having rgb on your keyboard, save a few quid and go for this. Cherry mx brown switches mean you get a tactile feel without the loud click you’d find on blue and green switches. If you have already used a cherry mechanical switch keyboard, then i can’t add much more than that. They are the best in the business, and the g610 is no different. The style is subtly stylish, and of course the led backlights have plenty of gimmicks with the software logitech provides. Other nice little quirks include the accurate and satisfying volume scroll wheel (upper right corner), and the tactile media keys. You get no dedicated macro ‘g keys’ here, but logitech allows you to change the function keys into g keys in the software, and you can customise this for each game to be different. Overall, it’s a near-faultless typing experience, thanks in no part to the cherry switches, and this keyboard is perfect for a more casual gamer who does a good mix of gaming and typing documents. If you pivot more to gaming, consider a model with dedicated macros, or get the red switches – they offer far quicker spamming for competitive games.
Bought this two years, sadly at the time i really wanted the cherry mx reds but settled with brown and no complaints. Keyboard is still in mint condition. No issues at all in the 2 years of gaming. Keys still very tactile and responsive. All lighting still functing perfectly. Safe to say, a well buil keyboard would highly recommend. The added sound control and ability to disable windows button are very welcoming. Honestly surpised as i’d expect items around 75-100 to start to dwindle and show signs of failure after 2 years of gaming. A good solid well price keyboard and the lighting them works well with my set up as it’s white and black anyway.
Great backlit mechanical keyboard for gaming. Reassuring clunk of each key press. Programmable keys and ability to freeze certain keys out during gaming.
Probably the best mechanical keyboard with genuine cherry mx brown switches i could find. Switches are probably my favorite from the cherry line of switches. About the keyboard, its very sturdy, no flex in it at all, very good rubber base and weight to prevent it from moving around. 2 levels of increased gradient. Keyboard has excellent lighting with leds that are very clear, bright, and programmable with the software to create different effects with custom brightness. Media keys are very useful especially the gaming key that can disable keys such as the home button, and the volume wheel feels great. Very elegant design with only metta black keys, base and everything making the leds shine even more. Keys have a great feel, and are great for typists and gamers. However, when the keyboard arrived, there was coil whining when changing the dimness of the leds, thankfully this was fixed with an update on the keyboard software. The keyboard i also ordered came with key caps with a very rough side, becoming less rough as you move from left to right of the keyboard, i’m not sure if this is a design and manufacture flaw, or if it is meant to be like this, i am not sure.
I bought this for my teen son. He’s absolutely delighted with it, especially with the fact that it comes with an interface that allows you to set up certain functionality for each keypad.
Cherry mx browns for £42, bargain, what’s not to love right?. Logitech’s decision to make the lighting default to a wave pattern. This default can be changed if you install logitech’s software else lighting button + 0 each and every time you reboot your pc, grrrr.
Pros:- build quality- cherry mx swtiches- decent fontcons:- did not state the layout of the keyboard- software needs patchingoverall: a simple, good quality product that requires not much explanation. If you just want a mechanical keyboard that is no frills and don’t need tenkeyless and rgb lighting, this is a very good product that can be used for office and play. The package arrived with plenty of cushioning and the product was brand new. Glad that it was genuine cherry mx brown key switches and the build quality is superb. Although it’s all black, the front ‘face’ of the keyboard is matte while the sides are glossy black so the contrast makes the keyboard look good and overall it’s a very simple, no frills kind of keyboard which i like. My gripe with it was the keyboard was uk layout which wasn’t stated anywhere whilst the laptop i connected it to follows the us layout. The keyboard follows the software on my laptop which is awesome since i am used to the us layout. Another thing i was not satisfied with was the software that came with it (the app that allows you to control lighting profiles). While the the interface was really simple and user friendly, the lighting is kinda wonky where it always seems to work and not work sometimes. For example when i was playing fps games where the wasd keys are supposed to light up it would sometimes not work at all.

First mechanical keyboard, wasn’t sure about reds or browns, did my research and went for reds cos i don’t want my flatmates to hear everything i type from across the flat. Good decision, lovely keyboard, very minimalist which i appreciate over some of the keyboards which are basically transformers nowadays.
It is a good product and will recommend it without any hesitation. However, please be aware that this keyboard is uk layout but not the us layout as shown in the pictures. So, for buyers who get used to us layout keyboard, please go to amazon.
Brilliant keyboard, nice and subtle, conservative. No stupid multi coloured lighting just simple 4 setting brightness so you can see the keys, brilliant key switches, nice and clicky but not too much, it has genuinely improved my game / typing.
Very nice to use and has some neat led lighting. Has a good volume scroller that integrates well. Logitech software is ok, better than razer. Only bad thing is the non standard layout, which means replacement keys is a pain.
Typing is now an enjoyment not a chore. Lots of customisations available for avid gamers. Brightness settings on the keyboard are a nice touch.
Bought this one a black friday deal for £40. For that price it is a very nice keyboard. Switches are nice and tactile, with a satisfying click on each button press. Volume scroll wheel is a great feature. The back light settings can be a bit much at times, but are fully controllable so i just set it to constantly on dim and that is perfect. Haven’t used the game settings yet as i have it at work.
I bought this to replace my dead corsair k70 which also had brown switches. Due to its plastic construction, it’s not as rigid as the k70, but it does seem significantly quieter – i haven’t even fitted o-rings this timemy only gripe is that the lighting requires software control. There’s brightness control on the keyboard itself, but without the software, it defaults to an annoying wave effect. As a linux user, that’s particularly frustrating.Fortunately, someone has written some linux software to control the leds (‘g810-led’ on github) and so the only annoyance now is that the brightness resets to max when i switch between windows and linux.

Bought to replace a ducky zero (mx blue) – not as taken with mx browns but still a solid, well made keyboard. I like the single colour lighting and the media controls are very handy.
Got it at a bargain price of 75 pounds (sold by amazon). This is all i could wish for from a keyboard. The quality is great at it has a pleasant weight to it. Typing on this keyboard is a blast and easily best experience i have had with a keyboard in years. Nice suprise for me was that it interfaces with a game smite and has a reacts with it’s lighting to what happens in game (e. Flashes when the match starts). I also find myself utilising volume wheel quile a lot. All in all i think it’s the best logitech keyboard in the lineup. It’s a shame that they did not use cherry switches for their rgb version, otherwise i would probably went with that.
I bought this despite the dire reviews on amazon. Uk, i could always return it if i hated it. I ended up loving it and give it 5 stars. Previously i’ve bought and returned the logitech g810, i hated the romer-g switches, so i decided on cherry mx brown switches which i’ve used and loved before. The keyboard is solid, well built and is currently £75zero coil whine and zero flickering on my unit.
Excellent keyboard for someone who spends all day typing emails etc, then some gaming in the evening.
The keyboard itself uses cherry switches (brown in my case) so that’s all really personal preference but i do wish they had made the media keys differently, it feels very odd pressing them when you have cherry switches everywhere else. The g610 has a fair amount of weight to it with a good amount of rubber feet and adjustable kickstands (i have the keyboard resting flat). I wasn’t too bothered about the keyboard having led’s but they’re a nice bonus even if they are only white. Overall the g610 is a great, well built mechanical keyboard for a fairly cheap price compared to most ‘gaming’ keyboards.
Positive: mechanical keyboard at a decent price. And the volume wheel thingy is kinda cool. Negative:the lights are annoying as hell. Every time you start your pc it starts in the wave pattern, and if you don’t have the logitech software installed (which i don’t because it’s a buggy mess that messes up my profiles on my logitech mouse) it remains in the wave pattern and you have to manually switch. Furthermore, if you leave the light turned off when you put the pc into standby, when you wake it up and try to turn the light back on only the light on the logo works and the rest of the keyboard doesn’t light up (then you either have to unplug the keyboard and plug it back, or leave the light ‘on’, just the logo being on, and cycle another standby-wake, which then turns all the lights on). I’m also missing the calculator and standby button from my old keyboard more than i thought – i could program them in software i guess. If only logitech would address the bug that messes my mouse up, and i could use the software, i would probably be much happier.
Been waiting for about three years to buy a cherry mx keyboard. It’s been worth the waitgreat expensive feel and looks the part too with coloured keys. The supplied software allows one to alter the light patterns which is pretty cool.Typing is effortless and you definitely know when a key has been pressed. If like me, you’ve waited a long time to buy a mechanical keyboard, don’t wait any longer. At £39 this an absolute steal.

I love the simple look of this keyboard and the basic white lights. It is not too over the top with colours and looks just smart. I looked it to the different cherry keys and decided on red or browns. This came up in the sale and i went for it. I’m really pleased with the browns and they are not too noisy, although are a little bit louder than standard keyboards. I have ordered some o rings to see what difference they make, but they haven’t arrived. The software and programmable lights/ keys are also very good and user-friendly.
This is my first mechanical keyboard i’ve ever used (as far as im aware) and it’s a great experience thus far using with my laptop (bought for a pc). Its heavier than i thought it would be, but it feels nice, sturdy, a well built keyboard. The keys are great to press (cherry brown switches), really satisfying yet quiet typing sound. They feel a tad mushy to me, but i think that’s because i’m not used to the feel of the keyboard yet.
This is a fantastic genuine mechanical keyboard. I have had the chance to use it for several months now and have found it to be reliable, solid and very high quality. The range of special effects on the lights is very good. They only do one colour but it has many different effects and speeds to choose from. For me this keyboard strikes the perfect balance of a solid clicking sounds without being overly loud. The keys are genuine cherry mx switches so you know they’re going to be good. This is probably the best keyboard i have ever owned and i wouldn’t hesitate to buy one again.
Amazing keyboard if you can do without rgb. Lovely, quiet clicky feel and appears to be great quality, but early days to tell about longevity. This was the second one though. The first one arrived in a torn box, seals broken and no cellophane wrapping on keyboard or manual/instructions. Could have been fine, but i ordered a new keyboard.
This keyboard is great, the mechanical keys are a joy to press and are not very loud like blue switches. It is basically plug and play, the keyboard works instantly but for more functionality further software is needed which is not provided in the box. To be able to get full use of the keyboard the logitech gaming software needed to be downloaded. There are many features which all work very well. The lighting effects are customisable within the software but i am yet to figure out how to make my own. At the moment the key press lighting effect is my favourite with the background be a dull grey backlit.
The keyboard has two keys, tab and q, that don’t work out of the box. That’s pretty bad quality control. Functionally, i like the keyboard’s simplicity. I’ve requested a replacement, let’s hope that one worksedit – it also has coil whine – as in it emits a high-pitched whine. The higher you have the keyboard brightness, the louder it is. I’ve come across this on graphics cards many times, but never a keyboard. I tend to use it on the lowest or second lowest brightness, so you really have to try to hear it. At full brightness though, it would be irritating. Edit: the replacement keyboard arrived and is working well.
Great gaming keyboard, it’s good for typing despite the fact it’s quite loud when typing, but this was to be expected as these are brown switches. Great feel, heavy, which really translated into quality. Lighting is very cool and accurate. One drawback is the logitech software, sometimes when i switch the lighting off using keyboard keys, software will not catch it and i need to disconnect/reconnect the usb to make the light come back on. Also, despite setting up custom profiles, sometimes the keyboard does not set the lighting automatically the second you open an app or a game, sometimes i need to manually start the software for it to realize the profile should kick in. This is not an issue with the keyboard, but with the software, but thought future customers should know about it. It’s easy to fix it, but it’s sometimes annoying having to disconnect usb or reset the profiles.
I like the keyboard, very satisfying to use and while being great for gaming, it isn’t to over the top and still looks pretty professional. I’d give it 5/5 but after only a couple days of use i’m already seeing the oil from my hands leaving marks on the matte finish of the keys which is a little annoying.
Typing this review on it now. I have found myself typing a little more often than i would have previously. I tend to use my keyboard for google search terms etc and the odd fps shooter aswd, so not an awful lot previously, but like i said, i enjoy typing on it, feels soothing and find myself typing for no necessary purpose. It sounds great, at least to me – my wife doesnt appreciate the clickety-click at 6am when i get up to do some work, and although the keys do take a bit of getting used to, it feels good to type away on it. Until my wife starts hitting mehavent had any issues so far and i’m expecting that to stay true with a brand like logitech – never let me down before.
