Meike 25mm f/1 – Bargain, sharp and produces excellent images!

For manual photography, does the job well for the price.

This is a great value prime lens. It’s well built with a solid feeling metal body and looks great attached to my em1. It is a fully manual lens that can be used with focus peaking function of the em1. I find the aperture ring just a little too close to the body sometimes but once i have it set for a situation i don’t really change it much and rely on shutter speed and iso settings. The aperture ring is clickless and the focus ring feels smooth. The large aperture gives a good depth of field range to give a nice blur behind subjects. I can’t remember when i last had a metal lens cap even going back to the analogue days.

It produces beautifully sharp images. I love the metal construction and the feel of the operation. I would have liked a definite click as the aperture changed, but i can live with the gliding function.

8 manual focus lens is well made with a bit of weight to it. The aperture ring is clickless, but it is positioned near the back and isn’t easily moved by mistake. Focusing is smooth and accurate and easy to see in the viewfinder of my x-pro2, even without using focus peaking. I’ve pretty much had this attached to the x-pro2 since i bought it 2 months ago. It slows things down and reminds me so much of shooting film back in the day. At this price and this quality, it’s a no brainerit’s not totally sharp at f1. The centre point is actually off-centre, and that’s not just my copy, my friends is the same.

Really enjoyed this manual focus lens. I found the build quality to be excellent, the manual focus ring smooth and neither loose nor hard to move. The lens is probably the sharpest 25mm i’ve used. The colour rendering is excellent via my fuji cameras, and it handles contrast and out of focus areas very well, especially for this budget. It fits perfectly on my cameras, no play and nothing to make me feel i’m handling a sub £100 lens. Of course if it had af it would be a whole different ball game, but we can always dream. For manual shooters this is a no brainer. Once again a superb lens from meike, so far i’ve had some excellent experiences with their manual focus lenses and i’m excited to see what’s next.

At short focal distances and low f numbers you get the bokeh and blurred backgrounds. At higher f numbers you get nice sharp images. It’s perfect for general use.

  • Large Aperture Prime Lens at great value

  • At this price and this quality, it’s a no brainer!

  • So far brilliant especially for under £75 Excellent little M43 lens πŸ™‚

Wanted a fast prime for street photography and video. This is great for the price if you can handle manual focus, which is pretty easy. Images detailed and sharp at f4, with great dof wide open.

Was skeptical when purchasing this lens to see if it would hold up, but its tack sharp and great to use. You have to be fairly confident with your settings in order to get the most out of it, but if you are shooting raw you can get most details out if you blow out your image. Looks brilliant on video footage too, the ibis on the gh5 makes this a super usable lens for handheld, especially if using slow motion. Over all i’m blown away by the performance and i’ve only just got it.

Just getting in to photography and this lens has been superb, the manual focus is easy to use. I wanted to get started without investing too much, id highly recommend.

Does what its meant to do – enables you to take pics. Disappointed that it doesn’t communicate electronically to the camera.

Brilliant lense for three price. Just have in mind that edges are not sharp really even closed down.

If you are after a fast micro 4/3 lens f1. 8 and contend with all manual functions this lens is fantastic at it’s price point £75 the only issue i’d say is the lens cap – which is all metal and just slides on. How it will stand the test of time, well, we will have to wait and see. Excellent little m43 lens :).
