Sigma 30mm f/1 : perfect

I’ve only had this lens for three days but it is already becoming a favourite. Really useful focal length on aps-c sensor cameras, allows for more context to images while still being able to isolate the subject. Autofocus is quick and silent and rarely misses, images are sharp and clean although, as others have mentioned, chromatic aberration is apparent in certain situations. I’m just a hobbyist though so it doesn’t matter to me. Build quality is very good, it feels sturdy and looks good although the focus switch is quite stiff, but i expect it will loosen up with use. Manual focus ring moves smoothly with a nice resistance.

This lens helped me take my skills that step further in to being taken more seriously.

This is the first lens i bought with my 70d – and it’s still my favourite. I got this instead of a ninfty fifty because my camera is a crop sensor. It’s a very solid feeling lens, feels better than some of my canon l lenses. 4 is beautiful, and gives some great bokeh. Some of the shots i’ve taken with this lens: (on the canon 70d)https://secure. Stunning low light pictures at a great price. Excellent bokeh and a really useful focal length.

It works on 100d, 1d mark2n, film canon bodies. I am satisfied, especially for the price and quality. No problem to work with crop factor cameras and full frame.

As far as i can tell it’s great. As soon as you pick it up you can feel that it’s a premium item. My standard canon lenses feel quite cheap in comparison.

As with a previous reviewer, i had to purchase the usb dock to calibrate the lens to focus properly on anything greater than about 1. 5 metres away on my canon 600d. Focusing some way in front of the object it was meant to be focusing on). It was simple enough to do via trial and error in about half an hour, but cost me an extra £39 and additional hassle, when surely a lens should work straight out of the box??for reference i had to add +7 to the 2m + focal distance on the downloaded software from the sigma website to get the sharpness right. I can’t fault the lens now and the pictures are nice and sharp – hence giving it the 3 stars, but i can’t help but think the usb dock should come with the lens to ensure 100% customer satisfaction. Edit: i upgraded my camera to an 80d and it needed an adjustment of +20 to get it in focus. However, the quality of pictures in low light conditions with the lens is very impressive so i’ve upgraded my review to 4 stars as a result.

Great lens, super sharp, fast focus with the right camera. Very fast focus on canon 70d in very low light, very good on canon 7d. Silent as it can be, almost as silent in video as stm lenses from canon(in video does not drains the battery as the old sigma lenses when in autofocus on 70d)very good build quality, metal body, great feel overall.

  • To focus sharply keep the camera on a single point autofocus
  • Awful chromatic aberrations
  • A little gem of a lens!

This lens is very good in low light. Not only does it take stunning pictures it is very nice to film with. Amazon was actually best priced at the time and fasted delivery. Sigmas art range produces stunning images.

The build is great, you can tell by the weight. 4 f stop is amazing, we are so happy with the bokeh and low light performance. We had a white ring on the screen, but that was the camera try to adjust the light between the sigma and our canon. Turned off the setting and all solved.

I really like this lens, and its my main lens, however i noticed a lot of my shots were out of focus, at first i thought i was making some mistakes and i needed to get used to the lens, but then after doing some tests i found the lens was usually focusing about 1 foot in front of my subject from 2meters onwards. Luckily when i bought the sigma usb dock mount i was able to fix these problems, but you may want to factor in that cost (and extra 40 pounds) when thinking to buy this lens.

Good product worth the money.

Had to micro adjust to get it pin sharp and may invest in the docking station. The dark sky shots i can get are sharp and stunning. Just wish they had not pulled out of releasing the 20mm/1.

Great lens is you shoot video at weddings/receptions. Lighter than the 35mm and smaller, and half the price. The nearest canon alternative is the 24mm which is £1k+. Used it on a monopod with manfrotto video head and it is a extremely solid lens. Metal construction and comes with lens hood. Goes well for shooting video on crop alongside the 18-3 f1.

Great lensnice wide apertureclean pics.

A super lens, high quality images as expected from sigma.

Excellent lens, my videos are much better. I have a canon (200d body) camera.

Perfect for crop sensors and very sharp.

I love the pics getting with this lens on my canon 60d. But i had to use the usb dock to adjust the focus, now it is perfect. Night shots are exceptional, focus is quick as well.

I use this lense for party and creative photography, it’s truly one of the best primes i’ve used, the bokeh is crisp and the speed is great, the only issue is the green chromatic aboration that happens when you stop down to 1. 4 however this can easily be dealt with in light room.

I shoot wedding films and this is unobtrusive yet yields incredible results, especially in low light situations. Would’nt shoot a wedding without it.

Good for videos – this lens is excellent, silent, sharp and perfect focal length for crop sensors. 4 aperture i can shoot in dark as well. Photos – it’s excellent comparing to canon 50mm 1. Its sharp and gives you nice contrast. Also i can shoot indoors as this focal length is more suited then 50mm. Also nice bokeh compared to 50mm 1. Not best for portrait as its best to have something between 100-200mm for portraits. Construction – very well build.

I have a 7d with the original 15-85mm lens. 5 of that lens at 15mm is not sufficient to catch meteors with a long exposure – people say you need f/2. 8 as a minimum and a wide field of view (at 15mm the view is wide, even on an aps-c camera like the 7d). So i chose this to benefit from the f/1. 4 aperture, as the best that was available for a reasonable budget. Unfortunately it has been so cloudy at the meteor shower peaks that i have yet to catch one. This has not been helped by the 30mm field of view (which turns into 48mm for the 7d) so it doesn’t capture a very large amount of sky. A few more general comments: first the lens doesn’t fit the 7d quite as nicely as my canon lenses. It’s a bit tight and doesn’t click into place as positively as the canon lenses.

Very good sigma lens great for low light night and portrait photography.

Love this lens, i used in gh4 with nikon metabones and works great, no chromatic abreaction, cream bokeh, fast aperture good for low light.

Great lens, very well built (as other art lenses), optically very good. Top ergonomics, about the right size and weight. It just doesn’t get in your way. Great delivery ahead schedule.

Chromatic aberrations were just awful at f1. To the point where this renders this lens unusable to me. Maybe it’s easily fixable in lightroom but i don’t use it. I bought it for two reasons: low light and background blur. So i definitely intended to use it at f1. I don’t know if the lens i received is defective but i don’t want to try for another one. I am getting the canon 28mm f1.

Wonderful results, solidly madelove it already.

I am an amateur photographer at best, so take my review with a pinch of salt, but i cannot find any fault in this lens. Ever since i bought it to replace my canon 50mm, which felt too close for my personal taste, perhaps because i’ve got a cropped frame dslr, i’ve been using it to capture birthdays and parties but also mountains and architecture. The photos are beautiful and sharp, and the performance in low light conditions is simply stunning. I think the lens truly shines in interior candid photography when you want to capture someone without being too intrusive (no need for flash). I usually use manual zoom, but whenever i tried the automatic one, the lens was fast, quiet and precise. Also the built quality is amazing, and the lens comes with a hood that it easy to put on / take off.

This lens is where you autofocus on a single point instead of a group or a landscape so you have to set the camera up to autofocus on a single point and then everything pops. Now if your camera moves the focus point around this is where you have to juggle otherwise the photos you take will always have the subject in the middle. If that makes sense to you then you will enjoy this lens especially since you can play with the depth of field so you set your camera on a. This lens is not a wide angle lens but not quite a portrait lens – this is the lens you use to photograph people sitting on a sofa because it is just wide enough but one of the group will be the focal point.

This lens is absolutely gorgeous. Perfect for street photography.

This one is just one of my favorite lens. Already in focus, sharp even wide open (as sharp you can be so open) and superb color/contrast.

This is the first lens i purchased for my 7d as i enjoy street photography and shoot the occasional live event. The build quality is outstanding, it really is a great looking lens and feels like a tank. Optically, i am blown away – tack sharp in the center even wide open, and focuses extremely well even in low light. If you’re looking for the perfect walk around lens for your crop sensor dslr, this is it.
