TAMRON 70-200 F/2, Initially I like this lens

A fantastic lens, i would recommend this to anyone.

I have just received this lens and tried out on say 75-100 shots. Boy i’m impressed, i was considering the canon version and this popped up nearly 650 pounds cheaper (780 gbp) so i took the jump. Yes the canon is a little bit better from the reviews i have read. 200mm sharpness wide open, and better performance with vignetting are the two key areas. Build quality is great, i also like that it is black. If you want the quality and save enough for a good l prime like me this is a great lens. Id say if the canon is 100, this is 95/100 as most will want to shoot at 200mm fully open, this probably needs stopping to f4 to get all round sharpness. Cant fault it, amazing lens, oh and 5 year european warantyi will use for sports, wildlife (range limited obviously), indoor, filming. I am not a professional and this is my second lens, i shoot on a 6d and a rebel, so fits me just fine. If its your job maybe you can justify the extra cash?.

Slower to focus than i was looking for.

As good as the nikon lens, but half the cost. Made to a very high standard.

I’ve read many reviews on this amazing lens for over a year now. Last christmas,(2015), i decided to finally give myself a present(i do have it’s baby brother the 24-70 2. At first i wasn’t too happy with the focussing, it seemed a bit hit and miss. I sent it back to tamron uk for recalibration. I received it back in a weeknice one tamronit was better but still not to my liking. I began to mess with in camera fine tuning on my nikon d610. After many shots and fiddling i finally settled on -12. It’s now to my likingsometimes i get out of focus shots but i think that’s down to me not the lens.

This is a great lens for the money. Competes with the nikon variant. Cons for me1 focus ring a little small.

It offers good value compared to the nikon equivalent. Is it 200mm at all closer focus distances?.That’s why i give it 4 stars not 5.

The problem with lens reviews is that what is ‘sharp’ or ‘great build quality’ is so subjective. It does really depend on what you are used to. For this reason i will compare directly to other lenses to help give you a better idea of what i mean. So if you are considering this lens then you have probably also considered the canon or nikon equivalent. I have a canon 5d mk3 and so weighed this up against the canon alternative. I already own a canon ef 100-400mm f/4. I also already own the tamron sp 24-70mm f/2. 8 di vc usd which i think is excellent.

One of the best buys in a long time, camera wise. Decent price for what you get (the nikkor one was over 50% more and didn’t work as well and the slightly cheaper sigma one was just shockingly bad). Stunningly sharp images and quite, fast auto focus. The internal telephoto range is super and creates a flashy look and keep the lens as compact as possible without compromising quality – so happy with this.

I received this item in double quick time even though the postage was free. The lens itself is big and heavy but doesn’t feel so on te camera (canon 6d). The construction is robust and some weather proofing is claimed. The zoom is smooth and offers enough resistance to avoid accidental activation. The focus and vibration reduction are smooth and quiet too. Optically, i won’t give you lp/mm or mtf scores as i don’t have the necessary equipment to check them. But, i can say that the level of detail (in the test shots i took) is impressive. I compared it to the canon l equivalent and to my eye i can’t spot enough of a difference to justify the £700 or so more in cost. Focus speed and accuracy andare also great on both my 6d and 60d, this is really important for any kind of sport or wildlife photos. So if your looking for good and fast optics with a reasonable price tag, this may be the lens for you.

It all went according to plan.

Excellent lens i`m loving until now ,works perfect with my nikon d810 ,this lens definitely worth the money spent.

Very happy with my purchase images are pin sharp and bokeh is to die for.

Nice lens ,tack sharp, well pleased with this lens.

Many photographers buy a 70-200 f2. 8 lens for portrait photography. 8 creates a nice blurry background that isolates the subject. Others buy it because they want a faster shutter speed to shoot indoor sports. However, this lens from around 150-200 mm @f2. 8 the pictures come out soft on my canon 760d. I checked out the scores on dxomark, and they confirm my findings. On full frame canon and nikons it tested well throughout the range. On nikon crop sensor cameras it is soft from around 190-200 @f2.

This is an exceptional quality lens, its given me some stunning photos, many of which have even won top class awards at reputable photography academies. Beautifully crisp photos all the way through the aperture range on the subject and gorgeous soft focus at high aperture. With the 5d iii, this lens focuses fast and accurately every time and has been used for very long periods during events and never fails. I don’t know if its weather proof, but it shrugged off a few showers i’ve been caught in without any problem so i’m more relaxed about that too now. The build quality is very good, and feels nice and solid. The zoom works smoothly and has a nice firm glide, i also like that it remains the same size the whole time, and doesn’t start getting longer. This always ensures you’re balanced well. Compared to canons own version. Well i really think its the same quality of photo, it doesn’t feel quite as solid, but its plenty solid enough and if i were to recommend anyone get either, i’d recommend this one, purely as its so much cheaper and does just as well where it counts.

Takes photos better than my old canon 70-200 2. 8l, and has vc so i gain a few stops for light. 8 at dusk and had some amazing images even from handheld. The image quality is on par with the canon l-series, on the tested 5d2, 5ds and 1dx. Auto-focus could be faster, but its on par with the l-series for me, and if i needed it any faster i’d use a prime lens anyway.
