SteelSeries Apex M800, Functional

It seems to be made with some very brittle plastic, at least both my enter keys broke inside with the small plastic pieces that hold them down so now they come out all the time just by pressing down which is very frustrating if you are trying to type. Fyi: i have had the keyboard less than a year.
I’ve owned it for around two weeks. I have to say this keyboard is bigger than most keyboards out there so make sure you know what you buying. The steelseries engine is extremely easy to use and you will be up and running in seconds. The spacebar is kinda funny looking when i first got it however over time i got used to it and felt pretty good actually. Shipping was on time and perfectly rapped.
If you want a keyboard that doesn’t feel as though your fingers are operating in cold custard, this is the one for you. Slim overall profile, no wasted space, full set of keys for any use. I didn’t get mine for gaming, i just wanted one where the keys feel fit for purpose. It is a noticeable weight so it won’t slide around, the whole construction says yeahtruly a master of keyboards and i can’t recommend it enough.
Pretty good for the price, the lack of rgb is annoying tho.
Made of incredibly hard materials and super sturdy, bought this to replace a steelseries 6gv2 with mx blacks that my friend eventually took back, this is even better with mx reds and back lighting for night time gaming. Amazing for counter strike etc but not the best to type on. . But thats not why i got it.
The led lights just brings the keyboard out even more. It looks really cool, for the price i would say could be better but what can i say if the product works for years i can’t complain.
Why oh why did they stop making this keyboard?. If i’d known and had the money i’d have bought at least two. Love t the colours, love the low profile keys and love the feel when typing. Instead of the m750 or pro they should have just given the 800 a metal case and the new keys ( low profile though). Instead we get the 750 and pro with those high profile keys on a slither of metal, no thanks.

“Solid product for writing and gaming, and overall pc usage. Can’t go wrong with a true mechanical keyboard
, So far so good
, A keyboard that says yeah!

Love this keyboard, responsive keys and solid build, feels premium. Wish the colors could be changed though.
Its one heck of a keyboard which will probably outlast me.
Great mechanical keyboard, even though red cherry mx switches it still has that audible feedback when typing which is nice. For games, it doesn’t compare with the normal keyboards. For example in csgo you can stop your movement much faster and more precisely but it still doesn’t make you a top player (not fault of the keyboard here, mouse and mouse pad are more important for your reactions in game). I thought it would come in azerty (french) layout but instead it came in german (qwertz). No problem though, less key caps to switch, since i wanted qwerty (as i don’t write neither in french or german) but they didn’t have. Doesn’t matter though, your windows keyboard selected language takes care of placing the appropriate symbols to what you’re used to in your country. So all this layout thing is not necessarily something bad and it doesn’t impact anything in how i use the keyboard on pc.
First off, i would recommend this keyboard – but not to everyone. It is extremely well made and feels great to type on. It has cherry mx black switches, so it has a tactile feel but doesn’t have the ‘click’ like other mechanical switches (such as mx blues). However, the disadvantage of mx black keys are that they are heavy, it takes far more force to press the keys than say mx reds, so if your prone to getting tired finger whilst typing this may not be the best choice of keyboard. Additionally, if your looking to replace your keycaps you will run into the problem that the 6gv2 has non-standard enter and right-shift keys. Finding replacements for these keys is hard enough, let alone bespoke custom keycaps. So if you looking to modify your keyboard, again, this may not be the best choice. I like the minimalist design, however some people may want more bells and whistles on a keyboard costing almost £100. The newer version introduces a red back-light to the keys, but still, no macro keys – only media keys along the ‘f’ keys operated a steelseries media key that replaces the right hand windows key. Personally, i found this keyboard to be great.
Bought this keyboard multiple times, always great.
Smooth responsive keys that feel very slick to use. Takes a while to get used to the action if you’re not familiar with red keys, but overall great in use for typing and gaming. Love the no-frills design approach with no cluttered media controls and unnecessary macro hotkeys. Good price, good quality, and has given me no problems after using for over 12 months.

5 stars because steelseries support is far and away the best there is. If you have any doubts about this product put them to rest, steelseries make great products and their customer service team is incredible.
Brilliant product i had no issue with it feels nice and look nice would recommend to anyone.
Good for a gaming keyboard where the layout of the keys isn’t a big deal.
The keyboard feels good and looks neat, but after several years of use i had to take it apart to clean. The keys are latching on with cheap plastic that are prone to break when taken off, meaning i am left with a back space and enter key that cannot be reattached to the keyboard. Definitely not worth the money – replacement keys are not an option outside of us.
Best gaming keyboard i have had. Really positive quick keys and different colour setting to suit your needs. So many ways of setting it up that i can not think of anything not covered . Really good buy would recommend.
99 from argos) it is an excellent board. Well built and nice included keycaps, however i replaced them with my own set (tai hao olivetti) and they fit perfectly as there are no non standard key caps, so i imagine you could stick any keycap set on you like. The board is well built with a steel backplate and thick plastic frame. The blue backlight is adjustable and can be adjusted by either a key combination or in steelseries engine. The keyboard is fully programmable within steelseries’ software and any key (with the exception of the ‘steelseries’ key) can be assigned to a number of macros or another key entirely, i have personally disabled the windows key. Overall i would recommend this keyboard, very nice typing and gaming experience and no extra frills that you don’t need.
It has the perfect size for my set-up and the software is fairly easy to manage to change the glow, so it does as expected for a average price mechanical keyboardhowever only 3-4 months of usage and the caps lock, scroll lock, num lock lights have already stopped working which is disappointing.

Small but definite scratches on light up panel panel that displays the ‘steel series’ on top right of keyboard. Can’t see how to e-mail seller so requested replacement.
I found that it was a really good price compared to other gaming keyboards on the market. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a new, cheap, yet reliable and fantastic mechanical keyboard. I would definitely buy this againpros:- it has an amazing feel to it- cheaper than others on the market (yet can can keep up with them)- materials are well thought out and are effective. – the keyboard has three indents on the back to allow for the wire to work better with where it has to go to get to the computer. – the keys need just enough weight needed to make it very effective for gaming. (although it isn’t the best when writing pages of writing). Cons:- this keyboard is very heavy for a keyboard (although this could also been seen as a pro as that means it won’t move as easily). – the back lighting is only blue and cannot be changed (although this wasn’t a problem for me as my setup is blue). – the cable is not braided therefore it is only the standard wire.
I’ve had this keyboard for two and a half years now and i still enjoy using it. The keys are responsive but not stiff and typing on it for extended periods of time have never worn my hands or wrists out, an absolute must buy for anyone who plans on getting a keyboard for long term use. Oh it also works great for gaming, i can’t use any other keyboard now they all just feel worse than this one.
Can confirm it has a full uk layout for anyone wondering. The lights are nice and bright too, very good quality lights. Build material is very good and typing feel is excellent even though the red switches aren’t supposed to be the preferred for typists.
Nice keys, good spacing, no stupid shapes, good quality, good grips and bright leds. Also, no stupid lower case ‘r’ like the razers. The one problem is that the keys with 2 or more symbols (such as the number, punctuation and f keys) aren’t completely lit. The top symbol is but the lower one is not as much. That’s the only downside i have. That doesn’t justify removing a star.
