SAMYANG 1220510102 12 mm F2 – Quality, quality, quality!!

For the price it’s a fantastic ultra-wide fully manual lens. The only issue as per youtube reviews is the chromatic aberration but that’s only noticeable when zooming in on photos and the general public is not going to be zooming in on all your photos – let’s be realistic. This lens blows the sony 10-18mm f4. 0 oss out the water for image edge sharpness as well as overall sharpness and the sony goes for 3 times the price however the sony is much better at having minimal chromatic aberration. For the price you wont find a sharper f2.
I bought this to go on my new sony a6000. It is solid and feels reasonably compact, although it is about twice the size of the 16-50. It is all manual focus and there is no control or indication of the aperture via the camera. It is easy enough to set though. I found that having the focus peaking on the a6000 makes it really easy to use. For best results, open the aperture to f2. Then stop down to your chosen aperture (usually f5. 6 – f8 for me) and take the photo. In a hurry i was getting pretty good results just using it at f5.
Wow – 12mm prime lens for sony a6000 nex cameras – great for landscapes photos & night time photos. I love that it is not auto focus .
Superb addition to my sony a6000. As stated by many others no need to worry about manual focussing as everything is pin sharpe from front to back, from about f5. 6 when your distance marker is set on the little line just before infinity. Use focus peaking on your sony and jobs a good ‘un. The lens hood fits firmly , in fact very firmly , it can need a strong turn to unlock. The lens cap is a bit fiddly ,if you have a uv filter on the end , but that could be my uv filter issue. Image quality is superb and being a fast prime lens you can take it into a wide range of light environments and get great results.
Excellent lens for the money the only downside is no stabilisation which is useful when videoing.
This lens is superb for the price. I was a bit sceptical for the cost but just wow. I have a sigma 35mm art prime from my canon days, teamed up with a metabones speedbooster to hook it up to the pana which has been my go to lens for so long. Ive honestly barely touched the sigma since getting this, and certainly haven’t felt the need to dig in my bag for the l series 17-35. The image from this cheap lens really is astonishing. Of course its fully manual but as i do 99% video that isn’t an issue for me. If manual is bad for you, then stay away. If manual is good, then dont hesitate.
-
A must-have lens for the Sony A6000 series cameras
-
Great Lens for EOS-M series
-
This is a damn SHARP lens

Great lense, i use it with my bmpcc and it’s fantastic. Only grudge is the focus ring doesn’t work with a focus puller as the grooves are a bit too small and close together.
Love this lens, for the money i don’t think you can beat it. Manual focus isn’t ideal for all scenarios, but have used for a lot of landscape and a bit of astro photography and got some really decent looking images.
Very nice lens for landscape photos.
Well made and compact lens provides excellent results.
I am quite a fan of samyang lenses. They all render colour really well and the focus is very sharp. Step down a couple of stops and they are tremendous. Some don’t like manual focus but i am old skill and actually prefer manual focus. If you work the camera properly i find it gives you much greater control.

Warning:the first time i ordered this lens i got the fuji x one even though it was packaged by the manufacturer (original packaging) as being the one for sony e (zero blame on amazon, since they took the return as if it was their fault). Second time around i got the right one. This lens is exactly as described, full manual, you can’t change that. Being what it is, sony only makes one lens this wide yet on their e-mount (around 3x the price and it only opens to f/4), so if you want the widest, fastest possible without the fisheye look, and cheaper, this might just be the best you can get.
Absolutely razor sharp with plenty of speed, so far i love it.
No time to carry out some test shots so will update this later. Not sure why but my box wasn’t sealed at all and the ‘guide’ is in german. . There was no warranty card at all so not sure if that’s something i should be worried about?carry bag and lens hood were included, thought the lens hood was busted as it was very loose but think it was just tight to start with.
This was a second hand product in mint condition. I have used it on my sony alpha5100 with apsc sensor. This is a wideanlge lens and, even though pictures are cropped for the apsc sensor, they still capture big spaces with sharp images. It comes with a hood which looks a bit flimsy but fits well in the lens.
I’m giving this a five star review because i’m pleased with the copy i received. Yes it required manual focus and fiddling, but i find that to be its charm. We rely too much on things being done for us, it’s a bit of a pleasure having to work for the result you want. Excellent quality pictures through my sony a6000.
This lens has many glowing reviews. Its low cost and produces excellent extra wide angle images. Its reasonably sharp (not that i pay much attention to that) but gives the excellent wide angle view i was looking for for interior photography. It does suffer some chromatic aberration, but these can easily be removed in most software packages.
Nano Coating System (NCS) reduces reflections and provides higher contrast

I used to have an olympus e520 with a few lenses, one of which was a sigma 10-20mm (actually, i still have it). It was a nice lens for landscapes, if a tad slow at f4-5. 6, and i have some great photos from it. But that all that equipment got cumbersome and dated, so i bought myself an omd em5 mk2. To carry on taking landscapes, i needed a wide angle lens and plumped for this little beauty. For the budget price of this lens, between f/4 and f/8 it’s nothing less than superb, with excellent sharpness in the centre when wide open. What helps is by setting the lens to infinity, anything further than about five feet is in focus. Pocket sized it might be, but it certainly packs a punch. Manual only, the focus ring travels about 140º and is separated from the aperture ring by an aesthetically pleasing red band. Not a deal breaker, but it does set it off nicely.
I was wary about spending over £250 on a manual focus lens, but my choice was limited for my sony a6000 without spending over double that for the 10-18. But oh am i glad i listened to reviews and feedback on here, this lens is a dream. Small, lightweight, well built, comes with a case and lens hood but most importantly it is crazy sharp even wide openmy 50mm 1. 8 doesnt even come close to the sharpness of this lens. Colours are also decent, at f2 you do get some ca on highlights but overall i am so impressed. If i had to be picky, i’d say the only downfall to this lens is the focus ring is a little stiffy than i am use to with other lenses, but still usable – could just be my copy.
Fantastic value, great wide angle, low light, astro lens. Yes it’s manual focus but if you want auto focus and the capability of this lens it will cost you 3x this price,,,,,,.
Great little ultra wide angle manual focus lens. There is vignetting in the corners but this easily correctable. Infinity is a little past the mark but not an issue. I use mine on a sony nex 5r and use focus peaking to help see what is in focus. For the price it’s unbeatable and i’m very happy with the images it produces.
This is an excellent lens, i use it for estate agent photography with sony a7ii. Previously owned the tokina 11-16mm and this seems sharper, it’s smaller and looks great. At this price it’s a no brainer.
This is a really good lens for landscape photos. Very sharp when focussed correctly. Manual focussing not too much of a problem due to large depth of field.
Glass aspherical(AS) and low dispersion(ED) lens elements

Bargain at £270 got it for my a6000 and it’s so easy to use with focus peaking and pin sharp.
Delighted with this lens having been apprehensive about buying a manual lens due to not using one for years. Couldn’t be easier on my a6000; enable release w/o lens, assign focus magnifier to custom button c1, set peaking level to medium and pick your colour – done. I keep the camera on aperture priority mode so it still does the shutter speed automatically. Images so far look sharp and looking forward to putting it through its paces in low light and also architectural shots. Delivered next day, boxed and seal intact.
The best wide lens that i ever used with my sony a6000. Ideal for landscapes and shooting the milky way. Manual focus is not a problem at all.
I used this with my a6000 for atrophotography and its delivering some awesome photos of the night sky.
Took a bit of getting used to a fully manual lens, but fell in love with it once i got the hang of it. My only issue is trying to remember what aperture i took my shots at. I guess i’ll have to start carrying around a little pocket-sized notebook.
This lens is a flawless purchase for anyone looking for a fine landscape prime for the sony a6000, a6300 or a6500. The media and web reviews say it all about this lens’ capabilities but often such reviews fail to assess more subtle qualities such as colour rendition, micro-constrast and colour bias etc. And it is in this area that this lens truly shines – the colour balance and rendition are immaculate and right up there with the highest quality glass made by nikon for its dlsr cameras, many of which i own and so i can speak with authority on this. Many have reported that, in being a wholly manual lens, it has its limitations but, on sony camera bodies, the ‘focus peaking’ feature means that one can check subject focus and depth-of-field whilst composing a shot. The only down-side is that, for best results, focusing needs to be done at maximum aperture and then the lens stopped down manually to the chosen aperture before shooting. This is not a problem for landscape and portrait work but would be an issue for action photography. But in this regard, a 12mm lens isn’t really suited to such photography.
I am using this on my olympus em10 mk1. I bought it for astrophotography and the results are amazing even if the m4/3 sensor is not for this. I love it for landscape too, and i am not worried about low light hours anymore.
Hybrid aspherical lens element (H-ASP)
Well constructed and reassuringly solid. Focus adjustment is smooth and stable. There’s very slight movement where it mounts to the camera body but nothing to moan about. Picture quality is great on the sony a6000 – much sharper than my sigma 10-20mm was on my canon.
In the absence of an affordable canon alternative, i purchased this. Works well on the eos m3 with focus peaking. Nice to use a fully manual prime, feels proper old school ( i may take up pipe smoking and join a camera club ) great for landscapes, and aside from a little ca ( normal for a lens like this, and easily correctible in lr ), no issues with image quality.
Don’t delay in buying this lens. It has quickly become my daily driver. Manual lens but you soon get used to it.
I’ve only had a few weeks with it but i love it so far. Super wide and dead easy to focus using focus peaking on the a6300, so no problem with manual. I’ve not noticed any issues with ca or vignetting, and any minor issues can be easily fixed through lens calibration in lightroom.
Really happy with this, use mainly for interior shots of my work and results are great for money spent.
A fantastic lens with an unbelievable price. Manual focus is absolutely no problem what so ever. I’m only sorry i didn’t buy this lens earlier. I use the samyang 12mm lens with canon eos m3. Amazone managed to get this lense to me in norway in 2 days an effort only matced by the quality of this amazing lens.
6 aperture blades create an almost circular shape
Buy this lensextremely good for taking pictures that need a wide angle (landscape, indoor, architecture, etc. )colours are great and sharpness even better. It’s only manual focus, but the doesn’t really matter as anything over 1metre away is infinity focusit is a little heavy compared to others but not extremely noticeablei’m extremely happy with this lens, i prefer it over my expensive sony lenses. Bonus: it comes with a lenses pocket. Although it’s not the greatest it’s still a good thing for samyang just to add in.
Great lens for those wanting quality, lens speed, and don’t mind manual focussing.
