Logitech MX518 Optical Gaming Mouse – Excellent bargain mouse for gaming

I’ll be straight with you, i bought this mouse because it was cheap and looked cool, and wasnt really expecting much in quality, but was pleasantly surprised. Aside from looking very cool its actually a very comfortable mouse, accuracy is not an issue at all, great for gaming and general us, expecially as you can change the track speed on the fly with the plus and minus buttons around the scrool wheel, and side buttons are fully customisable and well placed, definatly recommend for purchase for any everyday user or heavy use gamer. Comes very well packaged with clear info and setup disk, worked like a charm as soon as i plugged t in.

There a few things that make the mx518 one of the most popular mice out there for gamers, and there are a thing or two that are e let down for some. Lets start with the good things. First, the shape of the mouse is win. Its a hybrid mouse that you can use for a palm and claw grip. It’s a great shape and comfortable to people with larger hands who prefer palm or claw grip. Second, the grip of the mouse is very good. The material they used provides a good grip that is hard to slip from your hand. You need this especially if you are a low sens player and use large swipes. This leads me to my third point. The lift off distance is quite good and feels natural with this mouse.

Great mouse, takes a beating and just keeps going. Pity that the price is too high for me(£145 as of 16. ) when i bought this originally that it was only £24. 99 (that was in 2011 though). Had i known that it would have lasted so long i would have bought about 5 of them at the time, so that i was set for life.

Let me start off with my reason for buying this mouse. Any other mouse i bought basically broke after a few months usage, and i needed something primarily for gaming. Now let me tell you that i was not let down by this mouse. This mouse has, and still is functioning brilliantly, after, wait for it, 2 years of usage. Now, i find this incredible, because most mouses i had bought before this had some problem, mostly the cable breaking or buttons sticking after a while – none of this on this mouse has happened yet. I play pc games a lot, mostly first person shooters, and i’ve never had a problem with this mouse getting the job down, unlike other mice i’ve played games with (a few years ago my mouse sent my in game character spinning in circles faster than a drill), the mouse had sensitivity options so even if the game you’re playing doesn’t have these options available you’re still able to get a comfortable speed for your suiting. The mouse also comes with 2 extra, easily accessible buttons on the side – great for push to talk voice coms or other stuff you’d need access to very easily. Not long after purchasing this mouse it felt really natural to hold, which was a must for me considering my time spent at a computer – i’ve never had cramps or any pains in my hand caused by this mouse. It’s great to control and if you ask me it’s a perfect mouse. It’s accurate, there’s no input lag, it’s extremely durable, and highly worth the money – don’t waste your money on those stupid razer brands which would cost you more for less, trust me.

Not shaped for natural ease of use, as i have to bend fingers to the left for both left and right click. Otherwise works well and has only jammed once due to dust & body oils getting into the joint.

The humble mouse has to be one of the most used and undervalued peripherals in gaming history. I have been a gamer for over 25 years now have used a wide variety of different mouse, however my last m$ mouse finally gave up the ghost and i was looking for something that would feel good in my hand, but would also be more sensitive for when i am playing fps games and i have to say that this mouse fits the bill. It is a good looking piece of kit and it fits my hand perfectly. It has programmable keys and i particularly like the sensor buttons on the mouse so you can increase or decrease the sensitivity depending on what sort of games you play. I think a very good example of the difference in quality is playing quake live. I found that this logitech mouse was hugely more responsive than my last mouse and in fact it took me a little time to get use to it because i was finding i was moving around too quickly, but again a few pushes of the button and i was able to get the sensitivity right. I also like the global scroll option you get for the mouse because often you find that middle button won’t scroll through your weapons. I also play a lot of rts games and again the responsitivity of the mouse was very noticeable. I am not saying this mouse will turn you into a gaming god, but it will help you to improve your response times. As for general windows operations, again you can program the mouse so you can assign a number of shortcuts to it.

Though the low dpi and questionable design might put people off, i’ve found this mouse to be incredibly durable. After five brutal years of gaming, this mouse still holds its own in a gunfight. It’s very comfortable (especially for large hands), and the two thumb buttons feel adequately accessible and easy to click. I’ve noticed it occasionally resets sensitivity, but this is a recent development and i imagine it’s because the cord isn’t quite as strong as it used to be; a minor issue at worst.

After a few years, i’m still using this mouse flawlessly. The buttons are still responsive, with satisfying clicks. The only negative would be the odd dented design, however its just a mouse that my hand covers, so i can get over that.

Bought this mouse about 5 years ago. Had no probs at all with it. Worked perfectly for every day work and perfectly for online or offline gaming. It has a couple of on-the-fly sensitivity switches and 2 extra buttons on the sides for those all important extra gaming controls. Only negative i can think of is if i hit one of the side buttons by accident, i sometimes go back a page on the web which can be a little annoying and perhapss it could be a tad bigger- but i have big hands. Like i said, this is my second mx518 now, i didn`t even need to think about an alternative.

Ok, i’m not a gamer, i’m a software developer and spend a lot of time using mice. I need one that’s comfortable, has light controls and is accurate. I use a relatively large screen and do a fair amount of dragging and dropping so if i have to put more than the lightest touch on the buttons, it’s can get painful in a short space of time. I even occasionally use it for drawing. I have no complaints but i use a graphics tablet for anything demanding. It’s also nice that it isn’t cordless – i hate the weight of batteries and messing around with bluetooth connections – just plug it in and go. This mouse fits the bill and is a pleasure to use after my rather clunky ngs one. For the price, i think it’s excellent value.

I’m no hardcore gamer, so i was looking for something good that wouldn’t cost too much. I’m pleased to say i’ve found it: i’d heard good things about this mouse, and so far it’s measured up to expectations. It’s nice and smooth, comfortable to hold, feels sturdily constructed and has buttons in all the right places. I was particularly impressed by the ability to change the sensitivity between 3 user-selected levels on-the-fly at the touch of a button. I can’t speak for its durability yet, but it’s survived quite a few drops and bumps with no damage done. Like i said, i’m no pro, but this feels like a pro mouse and comes at a very reasonable price.

Great for all-round use, not just gaming, regular sized and comfortable to use.

These mx518 mice have to be one of the best mice ever. We’ve had death adders and many others and the mx beats them all. I still have two, unfortunately they are both now faulty through much use and abuse. The wire starts to break internally where it enters the mouse body eventually. Don’t get me wrong, it took a few good years of use to get them to that point though. No doubt an eventual problem with all wired mice. When i’m in the mood i will have a go at repairing them both, that means new sliders and usb cable. I’ll show my arse on the town hall steps before i pay £145 quid for an mx 518, which is what they’re now going for.

I’ve been using this mouse for about 30 minutes on cod4 and it’s absoutly incredible how many extra kills you get. When reading other reviews about people saying how much of a difference it makes, i was a bit spectical and though it wouldn’t make much of a difference but bought it anyway seeing as i needed a new mouse. . And wow, the results are amazing – the accuracy and control on this thing is fantastic. The 1800dpi is extreme (i’ve set mine to 1000dpi and is plenty for a fps like cod4), but nether-the-less, it’s there if you need it. Also, if i do suddenly pick up a sniper and start using it, the in-game sensitivity switching is such a great idea as it makes aiming with the sniper so much more easier with a lower dpi setting. Overall, if you want/need a new mouse, get this one as it’s fab. It’s also great for normal desktop use and glides perfectly my wooden desk (plus it’s light)——update october 2012——wow. 4 1/2 years later with daily abuse and this mouse is still going strong. The rubbery surface on the sides has worn off where my thumb and index finger grips the sides, and also my palm has worn off a bit of the ‘logitech’ logo on the top, but regardless of this, this is the best mouse i have ever owned.

No bad points as far as i can see. For people with big fingers, some buttons maybe a bit small. However, for me it feels like it has been made for my hand. Very good tracking, precise movements etc. The one and only thing i have to say as a minus point is that the logitech icon on mouse, you can actually feel its there, so you might find it frustrating.

I’ve had this mouse for a year and i’m glad to report it has stood the test of time. No technical hiccups so far, the only damage it has taken is the chrome logitech logo above the palm has worn away. This mouse is sturdy and suited to larger hands, better for people who use their palm to move the mouse rather their fingers, but it suits both styles equally, the 3 stage dpi function helps in quick situations and the extra buttons on the side help for quick macro-set up. The software is simple to understand and setup, though i haven’t tried it because the factory settings are just as reliable. I guess the only negative i can say about this mouse is that the pattern is abit tacky and the wire is abit stiff (a cable weight can easily sort that) but all in all a bargain for anyone wanting gaming mouse on a budget.

I bought this mouse 3 years ago and its still going strong to this day. Im reluctant to get rid of it cause its been so good. Never once regretted buying it or even considered replacing it thats how good this mouse is. Im a pretty heavy gamer and spend alot of time gaming cause i own 2 game servers and never had a problem with it, still performs as if it just came outta the box despite its age and thousands of hours use. It really is a good quality mouse. Its funny it has bulletholes on it as im pretty sure shooting it is the only way to break it. Feels great in hand very comfy. Thumb buttons are well placed with no loud sounds on press. The software included was great and very easy to use to set up your 5 profiles and switching between the is easy becase of the profile + and – a feature most mice only have one button for and u have to cycle throughif i had one bad thing to say about this mouse is it could have another button or 2. But it can be forgiven for that considering its age it is still better then most of 30 quid mice on the market now.

I received the mouse quickly, and all i had to do was plug it in worked straight away no problems, i use windows 7 os and it works fine, it is very comfortable and the the 2 mouse buttons on the left of the mouse can be assigned to whatever you need i have not been able to assign the top 3 buttons to anything yet as they do not seem to be picked up by the computer, but i have yet to have a proper look at it and if need be install software.

Bought this years ago, absolutely loved it, comfortable grip fits my hand like a glove, great adjustable dpi. Plug and play no software install needed, never let me down until the left button started to stick, but that’s wear and tear from a gaming mouse that was used extensively every day for 5 years. I replaced it with a new razer naga. I want my mx518 back, its superior in most ways, build quality is robust and doesn’t feel so plastic like the razer. The 518 is expensive now as its out of production, so when they are all gone that’s it. I would still recommend this to any gamer, its a solid reliable mouse.

I bought it to replace a generic laser mouse i have had for around a year now and i have to say it has increased my accuracy in fps games. It’s also sleek and smooth with a glossy top making it really comfortable to hold. Some people have said that if you have big hands it is not comfortable, well that is not entirely true. I have big hands and i find the mouse extremely comfortable. All in all highly recommended, also i have read in many places that some people moved to a razer mouse and eventually came back to this one as it is apparently ‘the best gaming mouse ever’. While i can’t say that for certain i can say that even though it is an optical and not a laser mouse i would highly recommend it.

I have used this mouse for over a month now and it has done exactly what it should. I use it mainly for normal browsing and work stuff and also for gaming. It scores very solidly in this and this is why i award it 4 stars. I have taken one star off because for me the quirky ‘dented-but-not’ appearance is just a bit weird. The mouse is actually completely smooth, it’s just made to look dented. It is certainly original but i would have preferred a more traditional colour personally. The extra buttons are very useful, but i find the jumps in sensitivity are a little uneven. You can change the sensitivity of the mouse, useful for gaming, but it is a bit uneven and requires you to also fiddle with the game settings for the mouse. In short, a good mouse for gaming and day-to-day if you don’t mind the decoration.

I purchased this as i got quite in to competitive team fortress 2 and the old dell mouse wasn’t cutting it. Brilliant mouse for all round use and gaming, i even purchased a 2nd for the office. Comfortable enough to use all day and really moulds to your hand. Buttons on the side and top are useful on the desktop and brilliant for gaming. I personally have the top two (around the scroll) to adjust dpi for sniping in games and the two on the side for either volume or cycling weapons depending on game.

Had this mouse for over a year now. At first the shape felt weird but now i don’t notice it in my hand, which is how a good mouse should be. The multiple choice of settings and sensitivity levels are very use full and makes quite a difference to the effectivness of use when gaming. I don’t like the graphic on the mouse much but that’s just my taste. (it does not have indentations in the body by the way that is a an illusion effected by the paint job). Scores high for reliability as it has been used daily for over a year now. After tens of thousands of gaming clicking the mouse kicked its clogs today.

Ignoring the insane amount of packaging, you get the mouse, documentation and an installation cd. The software that comes with it may at first seem useful, but since i uninstalled it, i have noticed little difference – save the fact that you cannot change the mouse resolution. However, with a good gaming mat (i have a razer rz02-00210900-r3m1 goliathus omega speed mouse mat fragged) it seems that the default resolution is more than suitable. The mouse sits well in my hand and the buttons generally feel well positioned. However, there are two buttons on the side that are basically ‘forward’ and ‘back. ‘ these buttons will, for example, load the previous page on an internet browser. I never use them and sometimes find that i click them by accident which can be a nuisance. However, i believe that with the software installed you can disable the buttons. The other buttons are fine and you’d have difficulty pressing them by accident. The cable is a little short (1.

Bought this to replace a microsoft razer habu mouse that lasted just 4 months. Since getting this mouse my gaming skill has zoomed – in conjunction with a good mouse mat this is very accurate, fits my hand beautifully and is very comfortable to use. The only downside is the position of the buttons to increase and decrease resolution – these sit in front of and behind the scroll wheel. To adjust the resolution up and down means you have to move your finger forward and back, which feels much less natural than on some gaming mice where the resolution buttons sit right next to each other. Despite that little niggle this is the best mouse i have had to date. And the paint job looks pretty cool too. Edit – 8 months later and i am still so impressed with this mouse that i have bought a second one for my other pc.

I’ll sum this mouse up: it’s a no-frills mouse that’s comfortable to use, has easily accessible buttons on the top and side and is a lot more practical to use in every day applications than my copperhead. I don’t know why this mouse is as expensive as it is, however, as it omits a lot of things that razer mice have at the same price. Particularly when it comes to the quality of the laser, which isn’t bad, but i haven’t found it as accurate as the copperhead in games. Perhaps it’s because of the way i hold the copperhead due to its design, but this mouse isn’t as good for gaming. So yeah, i’d give this mouse 8/10. However, this mouse emits a high pitched squeaking sound. You can clearly hear it if you hold it up to your ear, and it seems to come from the front of it. Back at home i didn’t have any trouble with it, but up at university, it’s a bit like a cave and it reflects back at me. This isn’t a problem if you have a headset, or even some music playing, but when i’m trying to type this up i occasionally hear it whirring in the background, depending on where i’ve got it.

I originally got one of these mice when they were a bit more expensive. I love using it, and the current price is perfect. I bought a new one for my girlfriend’s computer, she loves it. My workplace even buys these mice+ i’ve had it for over 6 years now, and it’s still working perfectly, with only the slightest fade of colour on the logitech logo. It has dropped, been flung across the room (tripping over the cable) and travelled between a few homes. + it’s quite a big mouse but very comfy and fits perfectly in the hand. +the cable is just the right length+ the buttons are all firm- the sensitivity control buttons are hard to reach when they’d be most useful (long shots, steady mouse movements, small web forms etc- logitech software is bloated (but you don’t need it for anything other than variable sensitivity).

I used to own a logitech mx 500 optical mouse and had it for years but the left mouse button started being problematic, i. If you held in the lmb it clicked on and off on its own. To be honest, i haven’t found a difference with mouse pointer precision and is equally as good for gaming use as the mx500 was. This mouse is great if you have big hands as it is quite large and very comfortable. The bottons are good and configurable using the software provided.

Bought it as i needed a new mouse and i have no regretted the problem at all. It’s fits easy in the hand and is reliable and accurate when guiding the cursor around the screen. Has a large selection of buttons so you are able to assign functions to them if you are playing a game, the connection cord is long enough to accommodate.

An excellent gaming mouse which only took a couple of days for me to get used to the new hand position (over my old one). Brilliant sensitivity and a nice increase and decrease buttons for the resolution. There are two other configurable buttons, which is handy for voice programs. Mb1 & 2 are easy to operate requiring little force yet remaining resistant enough so that you can feel the click. The wheel has a good solid click on rotate which i like, it allows for better control when zooming in. All in all a very nice mouse that i would recommend to anyone looking for a reasonably priced, well featured, well designed mouse.

I have used this product daily for 5 years and 9 months. None of the buttons have ever not worked. I used instructions on a website to remove the clicking sound of the buttons so it is nearly silent (very very quiet) at night. Additionally i removed a cog inside that means the scroll wheel is smooth. Opening the mouse requires a small screwdriver. The mouse works fine on my pine veneer desk without a mousemat. Because i don’t use one, grime slowly collects on the bottom in small patches. It does not affect the mouse in any way. I scrape them off every 6 months which takes about 5 seconds.

So it’s 8 years since i bought this mouse and i’m still using it. I have no idea how it still works given how much it’s been used but it’s definitely reliable. Pros:-looks awesome, really like the dented/steel whatever it is design-perfect shape for me, at first i thought it would be too big, but its the perfect size. (ignore the guy who says this mouse is tiny, i have long fingers and its plenty big enough)-extremely smooth movement across my standard mouse mat, so much better than my old rx650 for gaming. -customisable buttons and sensitivity. Cons: (minor niggles, this mouse is fantastic overall)-the software on the cd is a bugger, won’t let you customise any settings. Don’t bother with it, download setpoint from the logitech site, it’s the latest version. -mouse scroll wheel movement isn’t very smooth, really i’m just being picky here. Overall great, well worth the money, can’t complain at all.

I bought this mouse in 2011 for a fraction of the price and it still worked fine (and after many drops) until my partner borrowed it, now it seems to have a faulty connection somewhere in the cable and randomly stops working, each time the speed changing to that of a snail. Unfortunately due to the £60 increase i cannot afford to replace it, but if it were more affordable i would in a heartbeat buy another.

Only just seen i hadn’t written a review by years ago i mean like when starcraft 2 came out. My one sadly broke at the wire and i didnt realise i could replace the wire but my brothers one is still going strong and he bought it before mine. It was the best mouse i owned and i would recommend it to any and everyone. I am now using the fk2 because it was cheaper but i would gladly use this again if i was getting it for free.

I bought this mouse back in february 2011 and have used it on an almost daily basis from then until writing this review. I have used it for all types of games and i have had no issues at all. There may be new mice better than this, but i have no reason to swtich at the moment. It does what it needs to do, and it does it well.

After a year of intense gaming, these mice become pretty gnarly. The rubberised coating on the sides just gets dirty and greasy, then starts peeling after long use. I found this mouse to be a bit too bulky compared to other smaller mice. It functioned perfectly well for gaming, the dpi button is great for fps games. I would never buy this again after i picked up the logitech g203.

I am a longtime fps / rpg pc gamer, who also spends a considerable amount of my life chained to a pc for work. I have two of these mice, one for the office and one for home; it does not disappoint in either situation. Ergonomically, a good design is a must for me. While i don’t game in long sessions, i demand a relatively high level of performance when i do. 12-hour stretches at work are common though and for that purpose, this is an absolute triumph of design. Comfort is excellent, though lefties will not enjoy this mouse or i suspect even be able to use it. There is a definite boost in performance compared to traditional or ‘cheap’ mice, and i enjoy having my mouse not look like some work of abstract art i. Most of the overpriced mmo-centric mice you see today from the likes of razer et al. I have no strong feelings regarding the look, though as others have pointed out it is quite unique for what that’s worth.

Just noticed i have been using this mouse for almost exactly six years now and apart from some slight wear on the logo where the palm sits (very comfortably) it is still as good as the day i bought it as demonstrated by my using it for rocket league (pc dvd) these days. Love the look of it, the well placed thumb buttons and the satisfyingly smooth yet feedback-providing mouse wheel.

I’ve been using this mouse daily for 10 years. I’ve won competitions won with this mouse, reached rank 1 in wow with this mouse. Fps, rpgs, mmos, works a treat.
