Madcatz Mad Catz R – Love this mouse
Would give 5 stars as i like having a pinkie rest, but it is not fully compatible with mac os x el capitan. I emailed there support and they said a new update will come in the future but no exact date as of yet. To get almost full use of the mouse i downloaded a third party software called usb overdrive and can customise the buttons, except the dpi and the profile switcher. (profile switcher through usb overdrive can be customised but i tried different commands and its always buggy/not reliable)i did order the mionix naos 8200 but had to return. I much prefer the feel of this than to the rat 7 but sadly its very laggy with os x, even just the cursor movement. Update: usb overdrive with the mouse not very consistent and mouse becomes very laggy. Had to return this as not usable with os x el capitan, have gone back to my old logitech which works fine on el capitan but hoping mad catz will release a update soon.
Had to return as this mouse had a mind of its own and double clicked everything.
Having seen a lot of mixed reviews about this product, i bit the bullet and just went for it. I’m a big guy, so finding a mouse that will fill the palm of my hand can be quite a difficult task, but as soon as i unboxed this beast, i knew it was going to be perfect for me. After a few minutes of adjustment, i have the most comfortable mouse that i’ve ever owned and i will not be switching for as long as they continue to make them. The one thing that i would change, given the choice, the pinky rest is awesome, i love it. Their is a raised section that doesn’t allow my hand to sit quite right. I ended up removing it for that reason.
Since i first bought my rat 5 i have never looked back or onward, as far as mice go i have found my perfect mouse and i will forever on be a r.
If you’re after an alternative to a joypad, you should take a look at this gaming mouse from mad catz. It has enough programmable buttons on it to rival a joypad and works just as efficiently. The software is easily downloadable from the mad catz website and programming the buttons is a doddle. Your hand fits nicely over it and the mouse itself moves in a slick fashion, it is also adjustable in many ways and comes complete with the adjustment tool as part of the mouse. I haven’t been disappointed with this purchase.

I’ve been using it non stop as a replacement for my r. T 5 which had an unfortunate incident with a can of beer left on the desk that was inadvertently disturbed by a headphone cable. Non the less, i tried out the mmo 7 first with all the flashing lights and whistles. Took it back for a refund and bought this instead, i couldn’t be happier.
This mouse was purchased for my dad to accompany his mad catz keyboard. The level of customisation and versatility is beyond anything i have ever seen for a gaming mouse.
Didn’t last long, just a mere 6 months, but mad catz happily sent out a replacement quickly.
You are gonna love it or hate it. I personally love it, i’ve had 3 over the years. I have 2 pc’s and game a lot. This mouse is adaptable to fit you and programmable for each game. Modes and setting are off the scale.
Bought this to replace the roccat kova+ because the scroll wheel began to loosen and wobble, thus the scroll wheel became more difficult to carry out the action of scrolling up and down whilst browsing internet pages. The mad catz rat7 looks, feels and responds amazingly and would go as far as to say its the best mouse i have ever owned. Extra weight components can replace parts of the mouse to make it heavier and therefore tailored more to your liking. The components can have grips, logos or smooth aesthetics and even has an extra pinkie rest on the right hand side if desired. Mouse wheel feels very sturdy and robust, extra button next to the main left hand side finger button also. There is a handy little pin in the back of the mouse which can be detached or left in place which is used to screw/unscrew the other components and help customise the mouse to suit your needs. Everything about the mouse feels extremely sturdy and solid build quality. The dpi sensor is (for me personally) very strategically placed and all in all i cannot fault this mouse one iota and would definitely recommend buying this mouse hands downexcellent product.
An adjustable mouse is an ingenous way to solve the differing grip we gamers choose to adopt. Normally peripheral companies produce a range of products to cater to each style, be it palm, claw or fingertip. By creating one that can adopt to each?.On first arrival, the box is solid and represents the price tag. Inside you’ll find a well packaged mouse and the removable palm wrests and pinkie grips. First impressions show a well built, high quality mouse. The surface is a nice soft touch rubber coating which despite not doing anything to cover fingerprints, is pleasant to touch. Mouse buttons 1 & 2 are nicely balanced and the wheel feels robust. The two thumb buttons however feel mushy and do not offer the tactile feedback you’d expect.
Fantastic mouse love the way the buttons are layed, you can change it to suit the user easy to access the buttons, love the software that you download you can change it to suit the gaming stile. Would buy it again if breaks downthankyou.
I mostly bought this because it looked different (and i was sick of razer’s terrible software) – which it definitely does – it has a weird skeletal / ‘how does that thing actually hang together’ look about it, which i like :)plus you can change almost all of it – replaceable palm & thumb rest, you can tilt, stretch or rotate almost all the bits (with the help of an allen key) by the time i’d done all of that, it’s the most comfy mouse i’ve ever owned. Here are the specifications for the Madcatz Mad Catz R:
- Make sure this fits
by entering your model number. - Custom Weight System
- Precision Aim Mode
- 6400 DPI and 4 Custom DPI Settings
- 5 Programmable Buttons Per Mode
- Powerful ST Programming Software
- Lightweight Metal Chassis

This mouse is an exceptional piece to a gamers arsenal, its mulch-programmable profiles and button are fluid and easy to access. I recommend any mad catz hardware/peripherals to everyone and anyone. The software that mad catz allow you to download is also exceptional for designing mouse profiles, button layouts, dps settings and more.
T 9 for a couple of years, but the major problem there was that it was impossible to purchase replacement batteries when the life of the standard pair grew shorter. In that respect, great though it is, i would not recommend the r. When the laser on my 9 died, the obvious replacement was a 7. They are identical, with the exception of this not being wireless. The braided cord is lightweight and slips over your desk, not getting in the way like many rubberised cables. The main selling point for the r. T range, other than it looking like the batmobile crashed into a countach, is that they are so adjustable. Personally, i feel that they’ve almost made it too adjustable, throwing more bits in the box than you really need. Each to their own there, i guess. I was more than happy to stick with the standard build and adjust them, rather than bolting on all of the other replacement parts.
Was skeptical about buying this mouse over other mice due to its design but after using an older r. T 3 mouse for some time i stuck with the brand and enjoy every minute. + feels great in hand+ adjustable everything+ looks nice+ simple to use software (optional)- can’t think of any from personal experience.
T 3’s for over 2 years and thought i’d step up my game and go for the slightly higher end r. The main addition of this step-up was the precision aim feature. Sounds great, but does it work great. Nowhat lets this feature down is the location of the precision aim button. It is positioned too far forward away from the thumb buttons (forward, backward & thumb scroll) because of this you have to re-position your hand slightly when going for this button which totally knocks off your ‘precision’ aim. The natural position for the button should have been where the thumb bracket screw is, but hey i’m no engineer, clearly playing thumb wars while trying to aim was the only option.
Very configurable and high precision. Is excellent for gaming and video/photo editing.
Summary: i would thoroughly recommend this mouse to the hardcore gamer, particularly if you like fast shooters. However be prepared to replace it on 1-2 yearly basis. The adjustability of this mouse has meant it has replaced my previous favourite, the naga epic, for comfort. I have also found the easily adjustable dpi and the couple of extra buttons make this my go to for shooters and most other games at the moment. I have found that through most of its life the rat7 performs exceptionally well, though in my own experience they do not last as long as you may want if you are a hardcore gamer. My first rat7 died after 13 months of near daily use when the laser failed. This was replaced under warranty and now the replacement is getting to about that ago and i’m noticing occasional twitches of the mouse, so i’m expecting the laser will be failing again on me soon.
Reviews from purchasers :
- Just about the best mouse on the market
- Poor sensor detracts from genuinely good concept.
- The best for any use.

Fantastic mouse (or should i say rat). It’s button layout is perfect along with it’s adjust-ability. I’ve had no issues with durability unlike in may reviews, sometimes the sensor gets a little glitchy and the curser doesn’t want to move properly, but all i need to do is blow in to it and it works fine. 7 and i found it had too many buttons unlike this one. The gloss black version, after using it for a few hours it starts to feel dirty and you’ll always want to clean it. Prosera-gnomic adjust-ability (more so than the m. 7)just the right amount of buttonsstylishwired (so it doesn’t run out of power unlike the r. 9)conshas durability issues for some peoplethe gloss version feels dirty quicklyno leds on the front (unlike the m.
Its allot bigger and better build quality than what i read in the reviews. Fully customisable fits perfectly in anyones hand and looks like a transformer. Also someones put allot of work in the packaging.
Checked out loads of reviews before purchase and although is quite an old model, still came out the favourite. Excellent sensitivity, fantastic, customisability, superb build quality. I can’t find anything wrong with this mouse.
Adjust-ability and ergonomics of the product is astonishing. I like the design it is very unique, everything is adjustable which allows a range of people to use it. The material is very high quality feels very comfortable however does attract dirt but can be easily cleaned when taking the mouse apart. As this is my first gaming mouse i cannot compare with other mouses however i have found no other gaming mouses to be as adjustable as this. I recommend buying this absolutely.
Great mouse this is my 3rd r. T love the design and how customisable it is. But beware the mouse laser is extremely sensitive to desk vibrations which make up cursor move and i’m talking mobile phone, fan ect vibrations.
I previously owned a rat 7 and after a few years of thorough use (competitive gamer) it sadly died (i don’t blame it, any mouse would have died earlier). Going back to a rat 7 was an obvious choicei have large hands so with the back fully extended my palm can comfortably rest and my fingers can click without being curled (so i can use it all day without any discomfort) – the shape looks potentially uncomfortable but with all of that adjust-ability it can fit any shape hand (you aren’t in contact with any of the irregular edges)dpi settings are brilliant and switch instantly – can be adjusted with software so you can set some more and less sensitive options (there are 4). The quick buttons and sideways scroll are very useful – the red one on the side is perfectly placed, has ideal weighting and does have responsive feedback, same goes for the grey bar buttons (but don’t bother setting any functions to the back one as you cannot reach it while in a competitive environment, but for web browsing the sizes mean that you can’t accidentally go one way when you want to go the other). The functions can be changed to 1 of 3 settings stored on the mouse – changed by tapping the light to the left of the left mouse button. The design looks amazing too.

I have been using this mouse since november 2013 and its still going strong. For me it is nearly a perfect mouse or as perfect as a right handed mouse can be for a left handed person. So in reality the side buttons are never used and only the primary 3 are (i have included wheel click as well). So the advantages for me of this mouse are:well constructedfits my hand wellresponsiveheavy (i like to have a mouse that you can feel when you move it)cons:it needs a really good surface to work on otherwise you will get tracking problems. I use a brushed aluminium mouse mat and this works perfectly with the mouse. Pads on the bottom can wear out quite quickly, but can be replaced. I had no problems installing the software onto a windows 7 64bit platform, but i rarely use it so i am not in a position to really talk about it.
Brilliant concept for a mouse, i have very large hands and struggle to find something that is comfortable for me to use. Only gripe would be i would prefer a pinkie rest that is all flat like the thumb rest.
This would be the best mouse in the world ever. But mine seems to have a fault where sometimes the pointer wanders around on the screen while mouse is still. This is a real shame because i want to love this product.
Without a doubt the best mouse i have ever owned or used. It looks wierd and you might think it won’t feel right to hold but it fits perfectly in your hand. It can be customised in so many ways for people who have big or small hands and even people with only 1 hand can make use of all the buttons and scrolls on it. I tested it playing warframe with only 1 hand and set the mouse up for this and all i can say is it was brilliant. Everyone who has seen my mouse is like wtf is that. They then use it for a while and everyone who has used it said wow its awesome. I use it with a mad catz large mouse mat and the smoothness is like nothing else. My headshot count went up by like 80% when i got this mouse. It really is a stunning product and i can’t speak highly enough about it.
Never actually got round to configuring the sniper button. Fps settings on the mouse go from slow to fast in five settings.
