Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3 – Good Value

Totally loved itthanks and regards.

I got this lens this morning and went out today taking photos with it. I’m really impressed with the results, it’s a big improvement over the standard 18-55 kit lens. The optics perform better giving sharper results, and the image stabiliser is a handy addition. I don’t usually have a single bad word to say about canon, but at a retail cost of around £140-£160 for this lens, canon should be ashamed of themselves for selling the lens hood separately at an additional £25.What a complete rip off for a little bit of cheap plastic.

Also excellent lens arrived on time.

This replaced the original standard lens (which i had ruined by dropping) on my eos 400d dslr. It’s lighter than the original and is image stabilised which the original was not. It arrived very swiftly and worked perfectly straight away there is always that worry that youv’e got the wrong mount or something but it all matched perfectly.

I needed a sharp, clear lens that i could depend on when i’m photographing weddings. The image stabiliser featureis exactly what i needed to give me the back up in the fast moving environment of a wedding day where every single timei tripped the shutter the images i took had to be sharp and clear. On reviewing the images i took of my latest weddingi was extremely pleased with the lens and so glad i chose canon as the platform to capture the colours and textures of a wedding day. If you’re looking for a very good quality, reasonably priced standard lens i definatley recommend this lens.

Arrived in excellent condition thanks.

I use my lens every day for my work.

Lens movement action is not complete. Overall it does serve the purpose.

Very pleased with lense,is is great and allows shooting in lower light without flash, payed for next day delivery and thats what l got ,ordered 6. The only thing is that the lense came well packed but not in official canon packaging and lacking any instructions, not that they are really needed, still the lenses is great so hence 5 star.

This is a fairly basic lens but does have an image stabilizer. Plastic construction so it is light. The performance is not sparkling but certainly adequate for most situations. It represents good value for money. The lens arrived in good condition albeit without an original box.

Exactly what i wanted & delivered in really good time for a great price – thanks.

This is a good lens made better with the image stabilisation built in. It is not exceptional, but a very competant performer in this price range. Will help in many situations to improve the final image you record that is for sure. The normal 18-55mm canon lens is not that much cheaper. Lens it will dramatically reduce your low light shot disappointments. There are so many times when recording the atmosphere without needing flash are paramount.

Just got this lens and am very impressed by this little lens. I own a nikon one as well and the canon is smaller, thinner and a lot lighter. I put this on my 1100d and was so surprised by how light it was. The lens focus is quick and accurate and the image stabilliser is great. Great images from this lens and ideal for travel when weight is an issue. Nice little lens and a great performer. Yes its normally a kit lens but its cheap, light and very capable. Here are the specifications for the Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3:

  • Make sure this fits
    by entering your model number.
  • Aspherical element, with filter size – 58mm
  • 4-stop Image Stabilizer
  • Super Spectra coating reduces flare and ghosting
  • Circular aperture for good bokeh
  • Fast auto focus with 25cm close focusing distance

I think this lens deserves 5 stars as it is very good value for money. It is lightweight, has reasonable resolution particularly when stopped down to f8, f11. Autoficus is quite good and the image stabilisation works well allowing greater depth of field in lower light conditions as it compensates for the necessary slower shutter speeds. I used it regularly for a period of 15 months before it was stolen. I had absolutely no problems with it and i estimate i probably used it for between 5 and 6 thousand exposures. No it isn’t a pro lens and doesn’t even pretend to be. I now use a 24/105 l series lens and the image quality is far superior, but the cost was 7 times as much. With an aps-c sensor the results this lens gives are totally acceptable. I would recommend it to anyone needing this zoom range, which is very versatile, and needing to keep the price down.

It was alright but i had to return it and it all went smoothly.

The lens arrived quickly and works perfectly.

This is a very good everyday lens, for your canon dslr camera, it is suitable for everyday shots, closeup shots and even night shots. An essential addition to your kit, and quite cheap.

Brilliant lens at a brilliant price.

As described, well packaged, quick delivery. What more can be said really?.

Reviews from purchasers :

  • So very happy 😊
  • Good value for money
  • A so-so deal

This lens was just what i hoped for and more. It arrived way quicker than expected well package and in excellent condition. It was bought to encourage my daughter to grow her skills further with her photography (she is naturally good). I am really pleased with the lens and am glad i chose the seller, the price was also right.

Excellent service, lens works very well.

This is a great all round lens. It takes sharp images and copes well in low light. I purchased a canon 600d body here on amazon at a great price. I had several lenses from my previous canon. I purchased this lens, as a general lens. The image stabilization is excellent, although i sometimes don,t use it. See some of my images i took with this lens at. the lens is lightweight, and great value for money. ]

This is a very good lend for general amateur photography. The is makes the pictures very clear and focussing is very sharp. Obviously it won’t do everything you might want but is fine if you are starting to use a dslr camera. The only thing is that it is very sensitive. My original one had a light fall in a camera bag and the focussing mechanism broke. The seller was very professional.

Whilst it is true that that this lens is very light-weight and appears ‘cheap’, it all depends on whether one is more concerned with the look of a lens, rather than how it performs. From my amateur perspective, i have no criticisms whatsoever. It does look and feel of a lesser quality than other lenses i have. However, this is more than made up for by its performance. I use it on a canon eos 450d and find the colour balance very good, as well as the clarity. I can see no signs of distortion and my first few photographs turned out even better than i expected. Quite literally, it just worked. I didn’t find the focusing motor excessively noisy. In any event, even it it were, it can only be heard by the photographer. The focusing was very good and fast.

Yes it is working well creating good photos. The item arrived quickly and was what was expected. Already being put to good use.

Bought second hand but has been used with no problems, a good lens. Which was bought as an alternative to my 18 – 135mm lens, which is much heavier and not always needed.

You are probably better off putting the cost of this towards a ‘better lens’if you get one in a kit bundle it works out cheaper and more bang per buck, maybe worth hanging onto for a back up. Being fair it’s no question a better kit lens than the older canon kit lens and it does have ismy summary is as followspros:+ quite sharp when stopped down a bit wide end, usable at 55mm f5. 6+ it does have is which is useful, and it seemed to work ok for me with the copies i’ve used (but don’t expect l lens is performance)+ does quite well controlling flare rarely a serious problem for this lens+ pretty sharp in the centre of the frame at all focal lengthscons:- as expected fairly cheap build (par for the course for a kit lens)- at 18mm distortion is quite strong (again not rare for a kit lens in any way)- vignetting an issue mostly at the wide end (stop down for improvements here), not really an issues tele end- chromatic aberration visible and a bit more than expected at the wider focal lengths (stopping down does not help that much)- corners are quite poor at the 18mm mark at f3. 5 and improve quite a lot at around f8-f11. – no lens hood which is ok for a kit bundle but expected as a stand alone purchaseoverall by no means a bad lens, but it’s open to debate if it’s worthy of the stand alone asking price. In kit bundle form it’s effectively costing very little and not a bad way to start off for an inexpensive lens. Kit lenses do vary from copy to copy, some have complained about de-centering issues and i’ve seen that on various kit lenses from all the main makers. On the 2 canon ones i used nothing obvious stood out, but you will spot problems fairly quickly if you’ve bought ones. I would suggest putting the money towards maybe a sigma/tamron lens which will give better quality in both build and optics, but cost more money. So really the choice is yours.

Excellent lens with great resulting pictures.

Just what i wanted at a sensible price.

This lens hadn’t been cleaned or serviced in its life. The zoom is far from smooth and the lens body was filthy. The lens and rear glass were just as dirty. Took over an hour to clean it up. The zoom still catches whenever i use it. As a result it’s been relegated to use for hand held macro work. The image quality is great though now that it’s been cleaned.

Not cheap but that goes with the make.
