Sigma 10-20mm f4-5 – Value for Money

I considered this lense mostly due to the price different against a canon product, to be fair i wasnt expecting it to be that great in comparison. Having had it for a few weeks now i have to say its a great lense, feels well built and quite a weighty lense which really surprised me. I have taken a few pictures and find it takes great sharp pictures and focuses very quick, being ultra wide it does shock you sometimes how much subject you get into the shot, although i find the edges on the right and left will distort due to its ultra wide coverage, this can be corrected in two ways, by either shooting wider than you need it and cropping the distorted edges, or using sofware like lightroom or paintshop/photoshop to correct it. Its not the fastest of lenses and does struggle a little when light is low, but as its mostly bought for landcape pohotography then this shouldnt really be an issue, in all i really believe that the canon product will never be worth the extra cost and although i dont have a comparison i would think the sigma can compete very easily with the canon 10-22mm. If funding is an issue i would recommend you buy this product with confidence.

Very pleased with this lens, having read many reviews i have to agree that it is just what i needed, i do appreciate sigma have a newer lens on the market which is slightly faster but requires a larger filter. Consequently i am more than happy with my purchase which i believe represents good value for money and in any event i tend to use f11 normally. So do not need a faster lens. Would love to buy canon l series lens but in the meantime i am pleased with sigma lens (this is my third).

This isn’t going to be a technical review – these can be found elsewhere (very positive generally, especailly in the value-for-money stakes). One of the reasons i got a dslr was so i could have a lens like this and take interesting wideangle shots. As with any wideangle lens, you have to make some adjustments to the way you shoot to get the sort of shot you want. Do you want expressive distotion or impressive depth?something about the optics seems to give clearer colour saturation than my sigma 18-200 zoom lems which is my standard lens. There aren’t many similar lenses available at a similar price, probably cheaper on ebay as it’s a couple of years old now. All in all, very pleased with results.

Gorgeous lens on my 7d, when coupled with a shoulder rig or glidecam you get some truly stunning shots while taking video. Stills are equally gorgeous, havn’t noticed any problems at the minimum or maximum zoom. Feels great quality, and for a great price. Wouldn’t want anything more from a wide angle lens.

This lens is perfect, any photographer who loves landscapes. This lens i kept on about 90% of the time when travelling. Recently i went to norway and it stayed on the whole trip. Lovely wide angles can be achieved and when used with a polariser landscapes are beautiful. Some of my best images have been captured with this lens, a must purchase.

Researched other suppliers, amazon came up as best value for money. The lens was a required addition to my photo kit so i’d already decided this was the one for me. Sigma are my manufacturer of choice when i can’t afford the canon options.

  • Good Wide Angle Lens

  • Great ultra wide angle lens for a first buy!

  • Great lens, great for travel pics

Sublime glass and gorgeous pictures and not only for landscape they are a joy to use.

I use it with my canon760d, it’s great lens, i would recommend it to anyone who likes taking pictures when travelling. Perfect for landscapes or touristy pics. Good quality of pictures, 100x better than the standard kit that came with the camera.

This is an excellent piece of kit if this is what you want. Special effects come free with this kind of lens, but what amazes me is the lack of distortion when using it everyday. I love it, even though it is expensive.

Ordered about 11am wednesday arrived 930am thursday. The lens arrived well wrapped, in a jiffy bag wrapped in newsprint, within a box. The item is as described, small signs of age that don’t effect the function. The motors works and sounds smooth and the glass is crisp and scratch free.

Liked the lense well worth the price and good clear focal length and good quality.

I recently upgraded to a canon 70d. I love taking landscape photos and after lots of research i decided to go for this little beauty. Between this lens and camera i fail to see how you can’t take amazing photos. I am in love with this lens.

This has been a great purchase. Great sharp photos ,good colour at the price good value for money. I would recommend this to anyone to add to their kit.

This wide angle lens permits you take panorama type shots without stitching two photographs together. It is a great lens for scenery and is easy to carry around on the camera. Don’t forget to use filters (circular polarising especially) – i’m regretting going off without mine. It takes brilliant portrait shape scenes as well. I experimented and used it on close objects like a pile of rusting iron links on a dock and it captures the entire scene without having to step back. Obviously at f4 it favours bright sunny days but with even on board flash it copes with darker woodlands scenes and i was able to capture odd fungi on the way to a great view. All in all i am glad i got it.

After looking for a wide angled lens for some time for my canon camera i found this superb lens. Good reasonable price, sturdy build and does everything i need. As i take lots of landscapes this is the one for me. Better value than the canon wide angles and sturdier in build. The lens hood is very well made and sits firmly on the lens, unlike canon ones that often fall off. Bag and hood for the canon would have cost about £50 extra. Some good websites dedicated to this lens, with thousands of photos to see what can be achieved. Most reviews of this product were positive and helped in deciding to buy it. Not the most expensive lens, sits comfortably in the affordable zone.

Gives you a great wide view even on a cropped sensor, but obviously unless you want the circular fisheye look don’t use it on a full frame camera, i still have it as i use it on my backup camera (1100d) for time lapse while i shoot on my full frame.

I recently purchased the sigma 10-20mm f4-5. 6 ex dc hsm and i am highly delighted with the product. It has a very robust build with very precision movements which makes the lens feel ‘the business’i have no doubt that i will enjoy taking good landscapes and more. The product arrived from amazon before the due date therefore i am delighted with the whole purchase.

Super wide-angle lens for Canon digital SLR cameras and an APS-C sensor

I have been using sigma for many years, they continue the excellent value for money. This was in place of one by a different manufacturer with a second replacement as the lense just locked up,the only way it could be resolved was by removal from the camera neither were any good, perhaps a batch manufacturing problem.

Spent ages looking at comparisons between canon and sigma wide angle lenses, and at the 8-16mm but went for this one due to being able to fit filters and its price and quality. Some people complain about it being soft but i did numerous comparison tests and they all turned out as well as could be expected, so i think most people may just forget it’s a wide angle lens. I put off buying a wide angle lens for a long time but wish i’d bought it sooner when i saw the pictures it can produce. I have used the lens much more than i expected to. This lens is also brilliant for videography. The effect of movement is also enhanced and eye-catching. I got this lens and a heliopan variable nd for the price of a canon and have never been unhappy with the results (as a side note, i would add that the heliopan is worth the extra money if you’re buying an nd filter as it is cleaner than others and lets more colour through).

I am extremely pleased with the performance of this lens. It was a choice of a sigma, a tokina or tamron lens and i was encouraged by a retired professional photographerthat this was the correct purchase. My only slight criticism is that it is quite a heavy lens to add to the body of my dslr canon.

I bought this lens so that when visiting famous buildings i could get good views of the inside, this lens certainly filled the bill, and even outside when in tight spaces, i. Petra recently, it was a necessity to get the whole view. Some interesting angles but i think that adds to the performance at the 10mm end of its range. Have been using it on a canon 50d, so anyone with a full size sensor will get even wider views than my effective 16mm at the wide end. I’m not sure what the canon 10-22mm would give you additionally apart from a much bigger invoice.

Good value wide angle lens, a little disapointed with wide angle distortion, but overall very capable lens for aps-c camera.

Terrific depth of field and ultra-wide angle give a new look to average scenes. Colour rendition also very good. Quite a bit of distortion at the edges which shows up if there are people or buildings there so this is not a lens for people pictures – great for landscapes though. The winning photo was of coral washed up on a beach, camera resting on my foot using f22 and everything from the coral to the distant beach in focus. Well worth carrying another lens.

Incorparates SLD low dispersion elements and aspherical lenses

I now have three sigma lenses that cover 10 – 500mm. They are easy and intuitive to use, high quality and cover an amazing spectrum – plus the results have been brilliant. What more could i have wished for – think i’m sold on sigma.

Fantastic wide angle lens from sigma to be used on my eos 7d and 50d cameras, would recomend.

Very quick despatch and delivery. Purchased for my eos 600d, this is an excellent addition to my camera bag. I could not justify spending more on the more expensive f3. 5 product and feel that for most keen amateurs this would be the right decision. Initial results are very pleasing indeed and i am confident that i will get years of enjoyment from this lens. The included case is of very good quality and provides excellent protection when the lens is not in use – a pity no such item was included with my otherwise truly excellent sigma 18-250mm zoom.

With this sort of lens, you are always going to get some sort of image distortion. But it is a fine lens as you have to ‘look’ for the distortion, otherwise the layperson will not know. It is used mainly to capture a house renovation in progress, but plan to use it for landscapes and interiors on holiday. Images are sharp and the package (hood and case) is great value for money. This is a keeper for crop sensor cameras.

Perfect for shooting pictures indoors. Sometimes your pictures may look funny if you look at them closely, for example hands might be rediculously large but you can use this to your advantage. You can make legs look longer (ladies love it). Lots of light enters so you can use short exposures. Sharp pictures, rediculously easy to focus. Good for macrophotography (close ups) and shooting outdoors (buildings and panoramic pictures). If you have people in front of buildings etc they will look distant just like it does with the fisheye. I think this lens has efficiently replaced my fisheye lens.

Just received using on a cannon eos 1200d and it fits perfectly – off to see the northern lights in a week so here’s hoping some amazing pictures will be taken.

Straight off i have to say what a superb lens sigma have produced. I was originally looking only at canon lenses as i needed to be sure of producing good quality enlargements and was hesitant to go for a sigma lens. As the sigma lens had the focal length i was looking for and the price was a fraction of a canon lens i took the plunge and purchased the sigma. I haven’t been dissapointed, the lens produces absolutely superb images and i can not really see how canon could do any better. The build quality of the lens is excellent and feels good on the camera. On the down side it is heavy but this is a price you have to pay for the superb build quality and top quality glass used. A superb lens that i would have no hesitation in recommending to my photo mad friends.

HSM motor for quiet, high speed focussing

When i was looking at buying a wide angle lens i had three questions in mind:a) how to avoid grey imports / being sold a non genuine lensb) what were the must have accessories required to make full use of the lens (cap, hood, filters)c) will the low end of the price range will deliver good enough resultsa – i’ve ordered via amazon direct, this costed me a few pounds extra. Not sure this is the only way to avoid grey imports but it my case it worked. The only reason for being nervous about grey imports was the comments on faulty items where the warranty claims were rejected by sigma saying it was grey imports. B – the lens comes with the usual two caps + sun hood + case. This was as described on sigma’s website. Comments on photographers’ websites suggested that a polarizing filter was not appropriate for a wide angle lens so i dedided not to add any to my order, saving at least 20gbpc – the lens seems robust and well made. The 10mm focal does really makes a difference. The distortion at low focal distances can be easily corrected via softwares such as lightroom. I’ve tried a couple of shots with small apertures but again the sharpness is definitely not the best of this lens.

I read lots of customer reviews and sometimes i feel even more unsure that i should part with my money. This is a great first ultra wide angle buy, for people looking to buy their first wide angle lens. I like most people, have searched through other possibilities like canon 10-22mm, tokina 10-16mm etc. I already have the canon 10-18mm which did a great job but this in my opinion is better, better build quality and better image quality. It comes with a lens hood and soft lens bag. It arrived within 3 days as stated. Well simply as the star rating says ‘i like it’, simple as that it does what it does, for the price i paid. There may be better ultra wide angle lenses but for the money its a bargain, a good deal etc.

Excellent quality, light weight but feels very sturdy when attaching to my 550d. The quality and definition of shots with this lens is very crisp, clear and detailed.

I’ve taken a while to get used this lens and now know that it can produce some excellent results but results can be very variable depending on lighting conditions and especially the aperture and focal length settings. The biggest disappointments are that chromatic aberration towards the edge of frame can be horrendous and general sharpness is less than i expect from a lens in this price range. Distortion is well controlled even at 10mm focal length and the ergonomics and feel of lens a rather nice. At the 10 – 20 focal length range the lack of image stabilisation would not usually be a particular drawback, but as the chromatic aberration and lack of sharpness are worse when the aperture is wide open (f4 to 5. 6) i find that i tend to use f8 to f11 which in some situations means slower shutter speeds and a slight risk of motion blur in poor light conditions. Increasing the iso allows higher shutter and negates this at the risk of slightly more grainy images. I don’t have the steadiest of hands so this may be more of an issue for me than the average user. Well i’m not so sure, but if budgets are limited it’s probably not a bad choice. A better lens is, unfortunately, likely to take a much bigger slice of your savings.

I bought this as a christmas present for my partner who teaches digital photography. She tells me it is a truly amazing high quality product. On my side- good price, prompt delivery and well packed with a decent case.

Superb lens, it is my second most used lens, i had a tokina 17mm before i owned this but the made the mistake of selling it, at the time it was a bad move but if i hadn’t had sold it i would never have bought this amazing piece of kit, by far a better lens than my old tokina.

Internal focussing

For the price, this has to be one of the best value wide angle lenses around. It feels solid and weighty in the hands and on the camera. Great results from all through the focal range. Slight vignetting at either extreme, but nothing that couldn’t easily be fixed in ps etc, and nothing more than you would get from any other lens in this price range. Entry level price, mid-level performance.

One of my first wide lenses great price, when you first put this on your camera take a shot of your living room and you go wow how did it do that its so wide . Been using this lens for 2 weeks now and love it to bits.
