Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 80-400mm f/4, Fantastic!
This lens is better than i am, together with the d800 the results are jaw dropping and stunning. Contrast, biting sharp definition are outstanding, a jewel.

Lens arrived 2 days after ordering it(i live in ireland). It was a used lens but looks brand new. It’s a fabulous lens and i would highly recommend it,both for macro work and portraiture.
Smitten with it since july 2018. Like many i tend to mf with af macro lenses close-up but with this 105mm i can now routinely use af even in low light (where the vr also helps) and results are fantastic. Not having to pay so much attention to technique allows me to give more to composition. Agree it’s 5* my most treasured purchase of 2018.
It produces very sharp images and it is very well built, but too heavy.
It was a choice between the 70-200 f4 and the f2. 8, i went for this over the f2. 8 mainly due to the size and weight. It is very sharp and works perfectly on my d7000.
Probably the best macro lens on the market. A little dearer than others but at the end of the day, you get what you pay for. You would not be disappointed.

My best purchase of 2019, and first macro lens i’ve bought. Immediately was able to take incredible shots, and use of the manual focus is fairly simple even for macro beginners. If one prefers to autofocus, this does a bang on job.Af is a bit clunky but it gets the job done. The shots are incredible and i can’t wait to try out some more.

Just got this and wow what a lens absolutely fantastic its sharp all the way and gives great colour and detail.
Nikon had a cash back promotion so bought it from amazon. Very sharp and takes fantastic shots.Must have for any photographer. No wonder they are called holy grail. Heavy though but quality comes firstthanks amazon and nikon for making my dream come true.
This lens is simply superb, as you would expect from a nikon pro series lens. Very sharp with great detail even at 100% crop. Took it to croft racing circuit for the dunlop btcc racing weekend and was not disappointed. Very fast focusing, very steady for hand-held panning with vr ii enabled. I cannot praise this lens enough and i hope it is a life-time investment. Please note this is a big and heavy lens especially when paired with the d810. That said though, i hand-held the camera and lens all day (9. 30am till 5pm) with no problem as it is really well balanced. Expensive yes but we’ll worth the investment if you want a zoom lens that shoots like a prime.
I was torn between 70-200mm 2. 8 and f4 after reading positives reviews i decided to go for f4 and really loved it iam not indoor photographer so i will use this lens outdoor and i dont need 2. 8 nearly double the price and double the weight and i dont need tripod collar to use with my d800 as this lens is v light weight. Iam so happy that i picked up this lens. I always use amazon and their delivery package is wonderful.
I’ve been using this lens, so i knew what i buy. Pros:- very good mechanical quality- excellent resolution- vr- internal focusing, i like it. Con:- the lens is a little bit big and heavy, but it’s not the most important feature for me.
Really amazingly sharp at a comfortable (so usable) weight, great colour and contrast and i don’t miss f2. 8 – on most creatures you will want to have more than just the eye in focus.
Great lense, a bit heavy, but worth the bad back, even better with the nikon d800. Rather expensive but worth it when you see your pictures, with all those extra setting you can have lots of fun.
A photograph of a fox visiting my garden is so sharp the detail of its nose would allow you to identify the fox as surely as a finger print identifies a person.

All i can say about this lens is wow. The macro pictures are mind blowing sharp ,it is also great for portrait photos and general photography top marks.
Very slow, really bad focus time and the focal range is very bad. Not impressed at all, will go for tamron from now on.
I had read reviews of poor plastic tripod collars with this product. But mine came with a very substantial cast alloy collar. I’m pleased i waited for it to arrive rather than order an alternative collar at the same time. Performed as expected for nikkor.

This lens is great for macro so clear and the colours are brilliant. A great lens over all and i would recommend it to anyone looking for a great lens.
Just the feel of the lens will blow your mind awaypicture quality is just fantastici bought a cheaper tokina 100mm 2. 8 thinking i can get by it, but the focus hunting thing made me madthis has a manual overdrive and that just makes life so much more easy. If you are not on a fx body there are couple other choices. But i think this is just perfect for the fx body ownerscheers :).
This lens is a great piece of kit. I hesitated at first when buying this but took the plunge and haven’t regretted it. Some of the macro shots i have taken have absolutely astounded me and have received great comments on twitter. It is a great all round lens taking exceptional portrait shots and acts as a wonderful prime lens. The only negative is that it hunts abit when focusing in low light, but that is soon cured by switching to manual mode, which i usually use. Just buy it, you wont regret it.
Excellent lens, build quality superb. I don’t use this as a macro lens, but the portraits i take with it are razor sharp when mounted to my d800. No issue with focus speed, and yes it is a little heavy – but that’s what good money pays for – quality.
It exudes quality in it’s construction and the performance is phenomenal. Of the 13 nikon branded lenses i own, this is my favourite.
Sharp as a pin, wide max aperture, dream to focus with auto or manual focus. Minor prob is that it weighs a ton. However it balances beautifully on a tripod using the mount and the camera can just hang off the back no problem.
Top lens – top delivery – would definitely use them again for all photographic products.
Of course, doing what i do for a living i’m bound to love this lens, which replaced my almost 20-year-old version. Warning – if you have any microbes (used advisedly) on your sensor and opt for macro with maximum dof, they will show up as this lens drops the effective aperture to f54.
Service by seller fast and efficient. The lense is very detailed macro unit. Take your time to read the technical information to setup and use the lense and you will be well rewarded with some fantastic macro photographs.
