Sigma 17-70mm f/2 : Excellent quality lens for the money!
An excellent lens; i bought it to replace an earlier model which sadly, stopped working. I used it (the new one) to photograph a wedding yesterday and the results are brilliant.
I bought this as a gift for my partner as an upgrade to the kit lens that came with her nikon d5500 and she is very impressed. Although the kit lens was good, the sigma is significantly clearer, with the pictures showing much more detail – especially in the distance of landscape shots where the kit lens struggled a bit. Macro shots are quite spectacular and the auto-focus is very fast and pretty accurate, but can be easily switched to manual mode if needed. The attached picture is a simple shot taken with automatic settings for reference. We unfortunately had to send the first sigma lens back because there was a small amount of dist actually inside it when it arrived, however amazon resolved the issue quickly and the replacement is perfect. This lens does use quite a lot of power (presumably the auto-focus) so it is worth investing in a second battery. One battery generally lasts for a day of moderate use – perhaps 100 or so shots.
I purchased this lense as a walk arround for city and landscape shots. Excelent for this but the macro facility is also amazing. Would definatly recoment it. The poloroid uv filter i purchased with it is not so good, i think it is plastic as it has a small scartch on already. I will purchase a better b+w uv filter whan i get back from holiday.
Excellent upgrade for the kit lens, better and cheaper than its pentax 17-70mm counterpart. Sharp and fast, the hsm af works great. On the bad side, its a bit heavy, the lens cap its tricky to fit, and it has a tendency overexposure in low light with my k20d but manageable.
I use this on a nikon d7100 and it really does perform well. The focal range covers 90% of what i need and the faster aperture is useful. The os system is very unobtrusive compared to my nikon zoom but it still seems to perform well in all conditions. The stand out feature though is it’s sharpness at all settings. All in all a very good lens and well worth the money.
I bought it used at 211 pounds and for that price the lens is superb. The quality of the image is great and focus perfect & fast on my nikon d7500. Much sharper than my old nikon 16-85mm lens.
Amazingly sharp lens, miles better than the highly rated 18-55 nikon kit lens. The second photo is a crop of the first photo.

Brilliant Lens – Different League to Kit lens – Big improvement

Great all round lens for general photography
Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4 DC HSM for Pentax
- Make sure this fits
by entering your model number. - 30% more compact than previous lenses of its type
- Close fucusing distance of 22cm
- FLD, SLD and Aspherical lens technology
- High speed autofocus
- Lens can be customised when used with Sigma’s USB Dock
- Image Stabilizer

Appears to be acceptably sharp at all apertures and focal lengths. This lens is compatible with the sigma usb dock, so it can be fine-tuned to correct back-focus or front-focus throughout its range for nikon d3xxx and d5xxx series cameras, which do not have their own af fine tune facility.
A superb lens and very good value for money.
This is a beautiful lens that produces sharp sharp images with great contrast, colour rendition and bokeh. The ‘c’ lens is a huge step forward from the previous lens. Out of 14 nikon fit lenses, this standard zoom as been the favourite for my nikon d 7200. Perfect shots every time and the lens doesn’t just look good, it feels good too. I thoroughly recommend this sigma 17 70 ‘c ‘ zoom lens.
I’m not blown away by the long end wide open but af is solid and centre is sharp. It would be nice to have weather sealing but i guess it’s not in their sports line. Good for the price and most serious reviews rate it pretty well. I guess the decision is whether you would rather limit the range to 50/55 and get a straight 2. 8 version or the nikon16-80.
A great lens i am really happy with my purchase.
This is an upgrade of my 18-55 canon kit lens. Key selling points were the extended range 17-70mm and with f2. I’m using the lens on my canon 750d which i use for comms/social media work. 8 at 17mm is also useful for astrophotography. The lens arrived in sigma packaging, it feels well built and looks great. My expectations of photo quality were somewhere between kit lens and l-series quality (the extra range was my key requirement). I’m very pleased with the results. See the attached photo (taken at 70mm, f4, 1/800 sec, iso 160). I’m happy to give the lens 5 stars. I would definitely recommend it as an upgrade to a kit lens.
I sold the first one to finance the purchase of the canon 15-85mm lens but came back to the sigma for the simple reason that it was a better lens imho in all respects. The build and handling appealed to me more and, dare i say it, the image quality pipped the canon. Colours are more vibrant and low light performance is impressive. The sigma is over £200 cheaper and is now the walkabout lens for my canon 750d. I will not be swapping again.
The product arrived on time and in perfect conditions, good packaging. It fits the camera perfectly and the pictures are amazinggood value for money.
Light, small, easy to use, and fast response. I’ve used this mostly for gig photography and it’s worked well despite being f4 at 70mm – my d7200 camera works well at iso 1600 or 2000 so the slower aperture is not a problem.

Quality lens at half the price of nikon. 8 lens but my budget wouldn’t stretch to nikon’s prices,so after doing some research opted for this and so far haven’t been disappointed.
After researching the butt out of the nikon d5200 the choice came down to a combo with the 18-55mm kit lens or the camera body and this lens. I concluded that if i got the combo kit i would need to buy a prime 35 or 50mm lens for portraits, however the majority of reviews i read on the internet showed how well this lens takes portrait pictures and zooms to 70mm a real all in one lens except for sport or telephoto shots. I got the body and this lens for roughly the same price as the kit lens plus prime 35 or 50mm and wow what a lens. I can use the camera without having to lens swap for 90% of what i photograph, i just love it. I am really glad i bought this lens.
Purchased for a canon 600d – it’s a great lens. I bought it to replace the 18-55mm kit lens and it’s in a whole different league, the quality of images is far superior – depth of field, sharpness, colours are more vibrant – it beats the kit lens in every aspect. The macro ability is very impressive too, especially with being able to zoom in at 70mm. I spent a great deal of time researching and reading reviews, considering canon 24-70, 24-105 l lenses, as well as the sigma 17-50. I ruled out the canon lenses due to their price and not wanting to lose the wide angle of 17-24 – better on a crop sensor, despite having a wide angle lens 10-18mm. I ruled out the sigma 17-50 as i didn’t want less focal length to play with and although it has a constant aperture of 2. 8 i was happy to give this up. Part of the decision was due to my other lenses a canon 50mm 1. 8 helps make up for the varying aperture of this 17-70. The lens comes with a lens hood and front and back caps. I read lots of reviews saying this lens isn’t sharp at the edges, but have seen no such issues – compared to my 50mm 1. 8, 18-55mm kit lens and 10-18mm this appears to be producing the best photos overall.
I’m using it with the canon eos 80d after it was recommended and it is just great for my purposes. Am an amateur, but the picture quality is just amazing. I use it as well for portrait and love it.
This is the lens that’s on my camera most of the time.
Great “walk around” lens for aps-c cameras, in my case a canon 80d, and a significant upgrade from kit lenses (as it should be). The extra 1mm at the short end and 15mm at the long end are more useful than you might think, too. Images are very sharp, focussing is pretty fast (although not up to canon l series fast), slight demerit since f2. 8 only goes out to around 20mm. 5 and it’s an f4 lens pretty much for most of its range. It’s quite heavy compared to a lot of comparable lenses although not stupidly so, and appears to be very well built. This latest purchase is a present for my wife – i’ve had my copy for around 4 years, so that must tell you something.
Excellent lens, very sharp and quick to focus, the range is all you need in most situations, big aperture makes it versatile and a good performer even in low light. It’s quite heavy, at almost half a kilo, plus it drains the battery more quickly than the kit lens (probably on account of the motor having more weight to move in order to focus).
Amazing lense and incredible pics, brilliant in low light.
Sigma is always good quality and had no issues since i started using it.

I spend some time researching lenses for my new nikon d7100 and this sigma lens featured in so many positive reviews. I’m really pleased i followed the advice given and bought it. It is a great versatile performer giving excellent results. Enjoying using it very much.
5* just works very sharp, great colours smaller design makes lens more manageable on my camera body most of the time.
Bought this to go with my nikon as i was dissatisfied with the images on the nikon 18-105mm i had been using. Overall very pleased, ok it doesn’t have quite the focal range. But the pictures i have taken are clear and sharp with vivid colours. Overall very pleased with the quality for the price. Only one niggle, the lens hood does not lock into place that firmly, as a result it can come loose in the process of taking photo’s. If it even moves a short amount it obstructs the corners of the image.
Great lens, arrived in a blink of an eye to my location, portugal and on top of that is so worth every single buck you pay for it as an upgrade to a kit lens. It’s super sharp when you set the aperture narrower than f/8 and the 70mm of focal lenght really can come in handy. The only con however, which in my opinion isn’t such a problem, is how it drains the camera’s battery faster than any nikon lens since unlike them, the autofocus engine keeps running for a minute long after the last, time you presa the shutter halfway down to focus. But like i sayd, not to worry, just gotta keep the spare batteries charged up and even like that a single one is enough for a whole day out shooting street.
My images have improved already and have only used this lens once. Compared to my old manual focus lens, this lens is so much better. Well pleased with my purchase.
I used it to shoot a friend’s wedding and it’s versatility was great. I know professional reviews say that like most zoom lenses it has faults in the accuracy of reproduction, but these are not hugely noticable to the naked eye and most abberations can easily be fixed in lightroom or similar post processing software if it bothers you. One thing the zoom ring is quite heavy to use but it does stop the lens self zooming due to gravity. In any case, you soon get use to it when you get photographing. It comes with lens caps and a hood as shown. I am amatuer photographer of many years i only have modest kit but this lens gives me the ability to raise my game.
Excellent all in one lens works superbly with nikon.
