Speedlink FORTUS Wireless Gaming Mouse – – Great gaming mouse
I’ve been considering getting a new wireless mouse for my work laptop, having had so much trouble with my current (very cheap) one that i’ve ended up using a wired mouse instead. But i’m not sure the fortus is going to be suitable. It’s quite a large mouse, and rather angular, very cyberpunk. Black and a rather fetching silky metallic red finish. Five buttons, with two small buttons by the thumb. I was worried i’d keep pressing those by accident, but they seem to be well-placed (except when i try to pick the mouse up, see later). The mouse is so large that it almost fills my mouse-mat. (it’s a fellowes, with a large wrist rest). So i don’t have a lot of room to move it. I tend to make only small movements with a mouse, and pick it up and replace it to cross the screen in several swipes; this works better for me with a wrist rest than making long swipes. The fortus doesn’t really support this practice. The sales blurb makes much of the button to change the dpi, which seemed novel to me, but i had forgotten that my aforementioned cheap mouse also has this feature. What’s new here is that for each setting, the mouse pulses a different colour (through its translucent ‘side-fins’ and the logo on its back). At the lowest setting, getting anywhere on-screen with the mouse is difficult – it hardly travels any distance at all.
This mouse looks good, with or without the led lights. It is easy to connect and set up and is very sensitive. The selectable sensitivity, which is linked to the colour of the lighting means that it is good for everything from spreadsheets to basic cad to intense gaming. The dongle is small enough to be unobtrusive whilst installed into the pc, and stores inside the battery compartment when not in use. However, i found that the buttons are way too sensitive for my gaming needs. Particularly the side buttons which rested under my thumb. I found myself clicking them when holding the mouse with anything but the lightest of pressure. This was the same with the top buttons. For me i like a more positive click, and when playing games an inadvertent click can mean a massive difference. If you have smaller hands or a lighter touch, or prefer a light action then this is definitely the mouse for you.
The led light is not working in left side. I thought there would’ve been a software for the macro buttons, couldnt find any, searched a lot. Yet i like the mouse very much ^-^.
My trusted old wired ibm mouse has never failed me but i’ve always bashed it around because of the wire. It’s all too easy to catch and it almost takes the laptop with it as the usb plug is firmly locked in place. When the opportunity arrive to test and review a wireless mouse, i thought why not. Speedlink is a company i’ve never heard of before. The photograph doesn’t really do this mouse justice. The red satin finish is elegant (you may find it hideous). There are translucent panels around the base of the light that emit the built-in led lights. There are two small buttons on the left hand side of the mouse along the with the two standard buttons hidden beneath the red shell and a scroll wheel. There is another button below the scroll wheel which permits you to change the dpi resolution and in turn the coloured led changes to reflect what setting you have selected. The build quality is not on part with the likes of logitech and microsoft offerings and i’m worried it can easily break with a fall to the floor.
This gaming mouse is fantasticsome people say it is too heavy but it is not. I personally think is perfectly balanced. Connects great from a distance of 2m approx. Time will tell how long it lasts but so far 5star.

This is my first mouse with adjustable dpi – i found myself settling on 1000dpi (which has a red glow on the mouse. The dpi settings are 600dpi (green), 1000dpi (red), 1600dpi (turquoise) and 2400dpi (blue). The dpi is set by pressing the button that sits below the scroll wheel. The mouse was easy to set up – just plug in the usb (which sits inside the mouse if you are thinking it wasn’t in the box), install the batteries and you are off. The tracking is accurate once you have found your preferred dpi and it is light, and sits comfortably in your hand. I’ve not used it for gaming, so i cannot comment on its use in that environment, but it works well for everyday pc use, so i’m happy with this speedlink fortus mouse.
I like gaming mice because they tend to be a little more precise, at high dpis, when using software like photoshop. I don’t play games on pc (or anywhere) very much any more, but i still like the responsiveness and precision gaming mice can give. To be honest, i usually go for logitech or microsoft peripherals, so trying this mouse from speedlink was a step off the beaten path. First impressions are mixed; the mouse looks good, if you don’t mind the aggressively angular styling. The satin finish on the red section looks cool and feels good. The other plastics aren’t so nice, feeling a little cheap and brittle. The mouse itself is very light, even with the batteries fitted, which help you to whip it around easily, but players favouring heavier mice might not like this. The lighting works well, it is not too ‘in yer face’, but the colour is directly linked to the dpi selection, so you can’t have the colour you want and the dpi you want, unless you’re luckily. The lighting can also be turned off via a switch under the mouse. The main buttons work well, with a precise and predictable click, but the two thumb buttons feel a little spongey and the wheel click takes undue effort.
Very good mouse, feels and looks great. You can easily change the sensitivity with a click of a button, however it also changes the colour of the light. It’s slightly too big for me but i have small hands but still feels great. Has a good response time for a wireless mouse, the best i’ve used.
Really nicely designed, plug and play, smooth action, and fits your hand well. Ideal for gaming and general use.
The speedlink fortus wireless gaming mouse features 5 button operation, with variable dpi resolution. I am not as good a gamer as i once was, but certainly know my way around a battlefield. Over the years i have tried many different mice for battle, but usually find wireless mice less responsive than there wired cousins. So i was keen to see how this would stack up against the many ‘gaming’ mice i have used over the years. The installation in windows 10 was very simple. Literally pop the provided batteries in the mouse and plug in the small receiver, don’t panic if you can’t find it in the box, it’s actually inside the battery compartment of the mouse. That’s it and you’re good to go. The base of the mouse has a small switch which essentially turns on or off the lights on the side and top button on the mouse. These lights are used to indicate which resolution or dpi mode you are in. The resolution or sensitivity of the mouse pointer has 4 modes and 4 colour changes to show you.
