Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-105 mm f/3, Great buy, good quality, but think it through

Focus ring incredibly loose. Have to constantly refocus as the slightest touch on the ring takes view out of focus. Very disappointed, also plastic lens attacher suspect to damage.

Beautiful lens particularly if you are into landscape photography. Those extra couple of mm’s at the wide angle end do make a difference for what is essentially a standard zoom. The range is versatile enough to provide some telephoto capability and the vr means you can always crop without too much loss of clarity. Its a heavy lump though and whilst this provides a reassuring feeling of quality and substance, when added to a d7000 and a monopod, be prepared for a good workout when out in the field.

Disappointed that the lens came in a white box without any paperwork or registration papers but the lens works well. I own a better prime lens but i do think there is a great deal of posing about the superiority of primes over zooms. If you want a good image then look for good light rather than a faster lens is my motto.

I dont usually buy pre-owned but if they are all as good as this then i will buy more pre-owned more often. The only ware is on the box corners but i dont care about that. The lens itself is outstanding.

Crikey, i bought this lens to use at my sons wedding, i wanted a lens that would cover most situations on the day. So very pleased i bought this lens it fulfilled my every expectation, it is so sharp pin sharp i could hardly believe the results, but of course it is a nikon lens. Most likely this lens will stay on my camera most of the time. Really happy and of course amazon delivered very quickly indeed.

I am not an expert photographer and my mainly use this lens mounted to my nikon dslr is for astrophotography, usually when i am on holiday in placs where there is a dark sky. I have used in wide angle mode and at full zoom. At wide angle it is pretty accurate at shooting the night sky. However at high zoom i have been less impressed,. Having taken pictures of the moon and star constellations, teh results have been mixed. While the pictures of the moon were good, i wouldnt say the results were pin sharp, especially at iso ratings of 800 and above.

Brought to replace a non vr 18-55 of 2008 vintage which had developed occasional auto focus problems. Seven years of development have resulted in a more refined lens with a number of advantages over it’s ancestor namely. Lens front does not rotate, making it much easier to use a circular polarizer or graduated nd filter. No vignetting at the wide (18mms) end of the focus range. Vr assistance in poor light increases the likelihood of a sharp shot. Compact collapsed size of lens. Improved manual focus operation due to the wider and better positioned ring. On the slight downside there is an additional operation required to unlock the lens prior to taking a shot. However given that the resultant images are as sharp as ever and the cost is low a 5 star product.

Excellent optics as you might expect, no distortions i have been able to identify. Relatively compact and not too heavy.

Been hiring this lense occasionally for acouple years and love it so much i finally decided to fork out the money for it. I don’t own alot of lenses so i can’t say it’s better than this or that, but if your looking for an upgrade to your kit lense i’d say this is a good start.

I bought this lens from amazon warehouse deals to replace an ageing 18-70mm nikon lens (that is also a really good lens), so i’m not completely certain about the history of the lens before i got, but to me it looked to be brand new. The lens has a nice quality feel about it and so far has taken some very sharp photos. The only point i would make about it compared to the older 18-70mm nikon lens, is that it doesn’t focus quite as fast and that was a minor disappointment. But overall i’m very pleased with the lens and would recommend it as a good general purpose lens that will stay on my camera for most of the time.

Great wide range lens, solid built. It’s a perfect fit for my nikon dx camera – d7000. I bought this lens so i don’t need to carry all my other heavy lenses with me when i go travelling, without missing the opportunity to cover wide range of distance. I took it out with me a few times when i was up on the mountain doing snowboarding so i can capture some nice pictures as well.

The well formed 18 – 200mm zoom provides up to 300mm equivalent zoom on a dx nikon body. I’ve used it from flower blooms to racing cars screeching around motor circuits and pulled some very sharp and well rendered photos. On auto tracking it will hold focus on formula cars approaching head on at 180mph plus by setting 1/500th shutter speed. It won’t pull in clear shots if the racing car is too far out for that you’ll need a pro lens but for 90% of the frames you want it will give superb results – with the right technique. It’s a bit naff for landscapes but for interiors and tightly framed shots of buildings and townscapes the results are stunning. Don’t believe reviews that infer ‘jack of all trades master of none’ this lens will produce excellent well rendered photos pin sharp for a life time of use. It is an investment that will step an order of magnitude above no brand lenses and give you a robust piece of kit you’ll use day after day.

Pros-nikon quality – can not compare to other copies on market-prime delivery – super fast-amazing prize – discount is unbelievablevrii lens – the latest vr lens manufactured by nikon – which in my opinion makes a great deal of difference. Cons-comes delivered in a white box with a label and not the official nikon box gold and blackplease note i am buying this lens from seller coops uk with a prime deliverylink it case it helpshttp://www. Uk/nikon-af-s-nikkor-18-55-3-5-5-6g/dp/b00hq4w4pc?ie=utf8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00this it self has a few downsides which are not obviously the box. You will doubt its originality – as i didspecially when you that the lens comes delivered inside a huge box for a very little lens and that inside the lens is simply wrapped around bubble wrap. But after doing a lot of research i have found that amazon is one of the most secure places to buy legitimate products. Specially those sold through amazon, so that gives me a kind of a security. -no lens id – no nikon warrantynikon lenses normally come with a little piece of paper which is the warranty. This paper states the model and the serial number for the lens.

Bought this a direct replacement for a previous lens l’d had for five years. Although it was advertised as the latest model (vr2) the one i received was the old vr1 version, hence the three starsno real complaints tho’ – it’s a solid piece of kit, giving the results i expected.

I have been a photographer in a number of technical disciplines for four plus decades, ultimately nikon products were always my workhorse. This lens, as far as i am concerned represents outstanding value for money, both in terms of build quality and performance. If one wishes to commence on a hyper critical journey i feel quite sure from some, there will be criticism even nitpicking, however this lens, in my view, performs way beyond its price.

The first lens ordered never arrived, however, amazon refunded the purchase in a a few hours and no hassle, excellent service from amazon, thanks. The second order arrived promptly (3 days) and is now well installed and working extremely well on the 7100. Excellent quality through the range, from 18mm to 300mm, with such small pixel / gran issues at each extreme, you have to the a real professional to even notice. Excellent buy, but is a little heavy, so if weight could mean more shake for you or get you tired, stick to changing lenses. The vr and its ‘normal / active’ settings are excellent for compensating this. Best lens buy yet for me, 2 push-ups each day are good for me and the quality of the photos, just joking. I now only carry this lens during the day. Low light parties and night shooting is still best with the fixed aperture f1. 8 as you would expect, however i did some really great shooting of an end of year graduate party with the 18-300, impressive.

Love this lens, i am very much an amateur and this lens is hardly ever off my camera.

The lens arrived very quickly in a plain white box, no instructions / guarantee, but well protected. The lens works a treat, it ideal for wide / medium views and is very light too which makes handling on the camera light. Registered it on the nikon site.

This is nikon’s dx format do-the-lot lens – useful wide angle to useful telephoto, never take it off your camera. Solidly made, with metal where c***n uses plastic, and unlike the c***n equivalent it does not zoom itself while pointed downwards, even with the zoom latch off. Only slight downside is there is quite a lot of distortion at the wide end, most noticeable if you often photograph buildings, but the newer nikon dslrs can automatically correct that (i don’t have a newer dslr yet. The vr seems to work well when shooting at the 200mm end, giving you hand held shots sharp enough to distinguish the shallow depth of field. Only downsides, a bit hefty. This particular example seemed to be a second, with a small speck of something inside the optical train and an almost un-noticeable loss of gold on the name plate – but at 200 quid less than new retail, this is massive value.

I really love this lens, i have the 55-200, 55-300, 30 prime, and standard kit lens but this is my favourite, and one i keep on all the time. Ok so i prob have lens overkill and could sell one of them and prob will. On this lens the pics are very sharp, and it seems to be really versatile covering most of what i need on a daily basis. I couldnt decide whether to trade in some of my other lenses and get the 18-200 or 18-300 lens but the cost was sooo high and a few reviews mentioned loss of quality so i went for this one and i am def not disappointed, infact a friend of mine has also purchased the same lens after using my one. Im no professional but the results i get im pleased with.

The lens is new and good, but the lower price ones are imported from korea. In terms of warranty, there may be problems in uk, but then, again, for the price, if the lens fails, it’s not worth repairing, in most cases repair quote will be higher than lens price.

Rather than order a nikon 3200 with the standard lens i ordered the body only then this 16-85mm lens and it is ace. Seeing the camera has 25 megapixels i can take distance shots and blow them up and indoors portraits or glamour have come out brilliant. Pictures are sharp and crisp and i cannot recommend this lens enough as it covers almost all but really long distance shots. Value for money and quality second to none.

Its a kit lens so don’t expect it to arrive in anything other than a white box and no warranty. As for the lens itself it is a good product which delivers very acceptable images throughout the range and you can get very close to insects if used in manual focus. Cheap plastic mount so be careful or you could snap it of the camera.

Am very pleased with the performance of this lens. It complements my nikon af-s nikkor 35mm f/1. 8g and is about the same size, so my d5300 with either lens fits neatly into the (minimalist) lowepro rezo tlz 10 case. It was bought from amazon and came with a european warranty.

Have just received the lens and it feels sturdy, have not had the chance to test it outdoors however when paired to my d5100 and using the video on live view if pressing the shutter and re-focusing the noise is quite substantial. Not saying it’s faulty but worth noting for video oriented buyers. Main reason to write review, the lens description of the contents is not accurate, the lens does not come with 2 protectors, but instead with a pouch and the bayonet accesory hb-32. I wanted a bayonet so i purchased it on top of the lens and now have to return it to amazon losing the postal charge (which doesn’t particularly make me happy). Also lens made in china (the 18-55 that came with the 5100 on the original kit was made in thailand). I am not up to date with the manufacturing of nikkor lenses but just ought to mention.

In fact i use this lens most of the time and happy with the results.

Bought as a replacement for one which fell to the deck in a boating incident, jamming the barrel at a jaunty angle. I’ve been using it on a d80 for a year and it is a good value general purpose lens. Auto focus is quick and incredibly quiet compared to my older prime and telephoto lenses. The vr is impressive too, good for hip photography etc. I would think costs are kept low by using lightweight components so it is nice and lightweight but lacks robustness. However if you take care to avoid knocks it will serve you well.

This has beocme the lens i leave on the camera most of the time, changing it for the 18-105mm when i am going sight seeing or a 35mm prime lens for portrait sessions. It is a good all rounder – light weight, short when collapsed, and a very good price.

Probably the best lens of my many for my nikkon d7200. Really good width and depth. Highly recommended for the amateur photographer like me.

Ive had it 4 weeks and im very pleased with the images it captures and the size of it. Being 72mm lens it captures more light than my 52mm and gives a sharper picture. The length of it is fine so it fits nice in my excellent waterproof respirator bag at surplus and outdoorsi love it mainly as it has such a useable range of focal lengths, eliminating the need to chop and change and buy and carry extra lenses. Commercially, nikon have shot themselves in the foot with this one 🙂 great for an ataxian like me its quite an expensive lens so i went for a 2nd hand one and glad that i did.

I upgraded from a d5000 camera to a d7000. And as i sold the d5000 the kit lens 18-55 mm went with it. I needed a new wide-mid zoom. As i owned a 70-300 mm nikkor vr ii which is a great lens, i was looking for something in the 18-70 mm range. I went through a lot of lens reviews and finally decided to buy 16-85 mm vr ii. Light and very very sharp, clearly as sharp as the70-300mm vrii. The wide end of the zoom is great for landscapes. 2 mm may appear small (16-18 mm), but practically it is a lot. The vr works great and i get sharp images at 1/10 shutter speed.

I bought this item as i had damaged the supplied kit lens for my nikon d5000. The images are clearer, the focus is accurate and the versatility is amazing. I previously had the 18-85mm set-up. I take a lot of portrait shots for my work as a dermatologist – basically, ‘before and after’ photos. I find that i am taking better quality photos. I have no regrets about upgrading. My brother-in-law likes to tell a story about how his old 3mp canon took better photos than those with 10mp+ as he had invested heavily in top quality lenses.

This lens to me will be my ‘stock’ lens. Always found the smaller lens was just that and whilst i have 200 & 300 lenses they are more for long distance whereas as this will cover the very near and a fair distance as well. Our next holidag is weeks away and this will be used for 75% of the time. I could have bought a cheaper model but didnt want to reduce the pictures with an under performer. Best of all i cashed in the kids xmas vouchers with amazon.

Purchased this lens as my 16-85mm is faulty and needed a replacement while i decide what t do with the latter, rather than buy another 16-85mm i bought this one due to cost and good reviews. I was not disappointed, in fact this lens produces sharper and better colours way beyond the more expensive 16-85mm. Anyone wanting a an every day lens will not go wrong with this one. If i have a minor gripe, it does not come with a lens hood.

Bought it to go on my d300 (an old camera, now, but still, in my opinion, capable of good pics). Wanted something lighter than my 18-300 whopper kit lens that i bought when i got the d300 and which often caused me to leave my camera at home. D300 + this lens is a very nice combo, handles beautifully, it’s like having a new camera.

I have only briefly used this lens but it is clear that i won’t be using my 55-300 nikon lens any more. Whilst it is relatively heavy, the utility of having 18-300 on one lens is very useful and the build quality and photographs are also as good if not better. It also has two vr settings as well as on and off; normal and active with active being used on moving objects. A lens lock is also a useful addition.

I bought this lens second hand, despite having reservations about doing so in the past. I had no need to worry, as the lens arrived, in my opinion, as good as new. The picture quality for a zoom lens is also very good. It will never compare with prime lenses, but then you only need one lens in your bag. A great product at a great price.

Crisp and sharp at all distances.

From experience when you buy nikon dslr camera it usually comes with the af-s 18 to 105mm ed lens. If this is the case for you then as soon as you can afford it upgrade to this lens either for fx or dx nikon camera. The difference in raw and jpg file quality, sharpness and overall performance is very dramatic. To realise the best from your camera ditch the af-s 18-105 as soon as possible and buy this lens.

With the exception of my trusty 50mm prime, this has now become my go to lens and is nearly always fitted on the camera. Great images and a very capable multi-function lens.
