If you are considering asking a question along the lines of: ‘will this fit my nikon d3100,3200,3300,5100,5200,5300,5500, bla bla bla’ then this lens is not for you. If you don’t already know the answer to that you probably aren’t at the stage of using a lens such as this, as such you will find it a disappointment and a waste of money. Make no bones about it, if you are new to photography and trust your camera and lens to do the work for you this lens is not for you. However this is very usable if you are old school or fairly competent at manual focusing. You will need a few things before this lens becomes useful:-a sturdy tripod as the slightest movement with your hands at this focal length will be blurry as anything. The ability to operate your camera manually(only shutter speed and iso as aperture is fixed and not adjustable)very good lighting conditions, being fixed at f/8 means you will need pretty good light or you risk under exposing and photos taken. Expectations that relate to its low price.

This lens is a very good lens for the money but needs to be treated differently than normal lenses so you should expect a learning curve thats different than auto focus or long lenses, you need a good tripod and a steady hand , you also need to alter the aperture with filters which needs to be learnt so not a quick fix but a carefull approach to the lens and subject,you can alter the speed so thats helps but again needs carefull thought. Also you need to put the camera on manual to make this work. But failing that you haven’t got the £1000’s for a proper nikon lens this is ok.

Very nice to handle on camera.

Its lightweight, low cost,and good for experimenting with, however very low contrast,and image quality is questionable so be prepared to have to use photoshop for enhancing of the image.

I like this item back to basics as you have to use it manual.

Here is how to overcome the issue with zoom picture qualityif your camera has live view and manual movie setting turn it on. Now you can adjust shutter speed and iso levels and zoom into the picture in live view and readjust the focus to improve picture qualityi have done this for the 500mm lens this will be my next purchase but need to know if someone has used this lens on a nikon d3200.

First impressions are largely ok, although would like to clarify one issue:the t-mount adaptor has 2 parts to the thread, and in and outer which both rotate independentely of each other. When you attach it to the lens, and the mount to the camera, the lens will will keep rotating round, and has some movement in the other plane, so the lens ‘wobbles’ a little bit. It also means you have to hold the mount whilst focussing the lens otherwise the whole thing rotates without changing the focus. I have now used the lens with another (fixed / 1-piece) t-mount which avoids the issue. At this stage i am getting far from sharp results (photographing the moon) even when the image looks very sharp in the viewfinder, but suspect a bit more playing around will yield improved results.

There is no trouble in ordering this equipment received it no problem plus (free lens cleaner blower brush mini tripod stop down filters) the only problem is for me is that i cannot attach the 2 times converter i have written to 47 street twice and they have replied back but it seems they don’t understand my problem i screw the 2 time converter into the mirror lens and i am left with 2 female threads one on the t mount and one on the 2 times converter what we need is a male thread on the 2 times converter or better still the 2 times should have a t mount of its own has anyone else got this set up and how have they overcome it. Then there is the tricky bit a lot of trial and error good job it is a digital camera take a picture or 2 go to computer and look at the results very hit and miss i have a 2 times converter from another source i have used this as well with the mirror lens and a angle viewer fits on the eye piece of the camera and gives a magnification of 2 times of the view finder this helps in focusing.

Together with the telephoto has also provided its adapter. Received it recently, i have only done tests, first impressions are very good.

On a budget you can’t beat this lens, ok i have to put my d40 to manual (if you try in auto you get no lens fitted message) and play with the shutter speed to get the exposure right but for a 500-1000mm lens i’ll live with that, it took four days to arrive (well packed, thank you 47th street photo) and when it did there was three lens filters and a box of 10 freebies(lens cloth,screen cover etc. ) would recommend a you use a tripod in low light unless you’ve got a very steady hand but all in all very happy.

Absolutely great piece of kit. A stable stand is essential when using high magnification as the slightest movement is magnified.

Superb build , accurate manual focus, but i knew that before buying.

When i first took the lens out of the box i was amazed at the size and weight of it, also i did not expect to get the extra filters with it. I have not tried it out in some actual shots but i did try a hand held shot a 1000m. I could not believe how steady you can hold this lens and i was amazed at the results. I shall be taking it ona field trip shortly and we will see how we fare on a tripod.
