Nikon AF Micro NIKKOR 60mm f/2 – Pro grade 60mm AF D with Metal Lens Hood and front Lens Cap.

8 af d micro lens arrived last thursday. I’ve been using its early predecessor, the 55mm af, for some years, so i sort of knew what to expect. My sceptical colleagues, though, were completely bowled over. On the surface of it, this is an ‘ordinary’ 60 mm lens, at f2. 8 fairly slow for a prime lens, with a nice smooth feel and a very, very sharp focus at normal distances. On closer inspection, this lens has got two features that you wouldn’t expect. The first is a ‘limit/full’ switch, and the second is an extra set of numbers on the distance scale. Take the lens close to the subject, and it comes into its own. You can bring it as close as a few centimetres away before it bangs up to the end of its travel, and the extra numbers shows 1:1.

This lens is a seriously sharp lens especially when stopped down from f2. This lens is extremely detailed during normal shooting, and for close up work the definition and sharpness are truly amazing, as it can even pick up details in small subjects that you would actually find hard to see with the naked eyethis is a pro grade glass from yesteryear, with a metal body construction, and is made in japan (not china/thailand) like most of nikons premium grade products. There are many positive reviews for this lens, but for a quick reference, have a read of the review on the ‘what digital camera’ website, which is both simple and informative. The lens element actually sits deep within the barel during non macro shooting, so the use of a lens hood is not really required, however if like me you prefer to use one, i recommend either the deeper nikon hn23 lens hood or an equivalent length hood from amazon uk. On a dx sensor camera the lens has a 90mm field of view due to this being a 60mm fx lens, so a larger telephoto type 70mm-210mm style lens hood will work without vignetting problems as the 90mm field of view falls within this range. I purchased a metal hood and front lens cap from amazon uk for a bargain price which works really well. Have a look a the pictures and hopefully it will be of some help. This lens is fully recommended by me, and you simply won’t regret buying one.

This was the first macro (micro) lens i bought; i also have the 105mm now too which is definitely my preferred lens but i have to say i’m glad i have this one too. The performance is excellent and it is lighter and easier to hold than the 105mm which can be a bit heavy if you’re small. It produces good close-ups and can be used with filters to get closer if necessary. It makes a super portrait lens too so if you want something that can be used for close-ups and people then this is one to consider. I’m using this with the d50 and the output from it is very good indeed.

Well made lens, just what you would expect from nikon. I have used this lens in all conditions and am very pleased with its operation.

I bought this, the ‘d’ version as it has an aperture ring, essential when used with bellows or extension tubes, where there is no autofocus or auto-aperture control. Not quite as good as the old nikkor 55mm macro, but does not fall far short.

I’m very pleased with my lens it arrived promptly and was exactly as described and in excellent condition at a very reasonable price would happily use this seller again.

Brilliant service first rate arrived in good time, very pleased. I will uses again if needed, great piece of kit would recommend it to anyone.

I had excellent results especially with photographs of insects on flowers at breezy knees gardens near york. I am also trying it as a prime lens for portraits.

When combined with my nikon d90, the lens has produced the highest quality photographs. Its compact size and ease of use makes it an ideal lens for anyone who has a serious interest in macro photography.

If ever there was a lens to strike a substantial blow for fixed focal length lenses vs. Zoom lenses, then the af-d 60mm f2. 8 micro is just such a lens. Although often appearing as a purely specialist short focal length macro lens, this lens works extremely well with everyday subjects at normal distances and can produce some of the sharpest images possible with any nikon lens. I find this to be a very rewarding `everyday’ lens, working well for a wide range of subjects, particularly if you are prepared/able to change your shooting position accordingly (a slight point for the zoom lenses there). In direct comparisons it produces noticeably sharper images than both the af-d 50mm f1. 8 (arguably one of the sharpest zoom lenses around). If you want top quality results with your general photography without going into four figures then this lens could be an ideal solution. As an fx-format user, i find the 60mm focal length works well for portraits where the subject is not too far away and on a dx-format body, this lens will become a 90mm f2.

Have produced some great clear shots.
