Sigma 60mm F2 : Excellent lens, excellent value.

Takes beautiful portrait shots – i can’t fault it. Fantastic price, you won’t find better value for money if you’re looking for a portrait lens.
Enough has been said by other reviewers about this brilliant lens. I made an improvement to the rather pathetic lens hood by taking an empty life plan siberian ginseng 600mg pot and cutting the bottom end off. It was a perfect push fit into the existing lens hood and only needed a blackening of the inner surface with a marker pen and a piece of faux leatherette on the outer surface to make it into a really effective lens hood. I also wrapped a piece of the faux leather round the focusing barrel.
No surprise here – i used this lens a few years ago on a micro 4/3 camera and when i switched to fuji i missed it a lot. Now that i’m using sony e i bought the e version and of course it’s every bit as good as i remembered. This is a truly stellar performer, don’t let the price fool you. This lens is as good as it gets, even wide open – it’s bitingly sharp and without a trace of longitudinal ca (‘bokeh’ ca) that plagues sony lenses by adding false colour to the blurred regions in front of and behind the plane of focus. 8, but that aperture is perfectly usable and outperforms the much more expensive sony lenses even when they are stopped down. I briefly considered getting the sony e 50/1. 8 instead but while not a ‘bad’ lens it doesn’t really perform well (except in the centre) until stopped down to about f/5. 6, and even at that aperture the wide-open sigma still significantly out-performs it. Then there’s the not inconsiderable price difference. So the sigma it was and i’m more than happy with the choice :-).
The sharpness was outstanding, as was the value for money. After using several pro lenses by panasonic and leica. I would buy sigma again for my panasonic 4/3 camera.
. Sharp as any other lens in the range. Can’t buy this kind of quality at this price with sony.
I bought this for my panasonic lumix gx1 and am very pleased with the quality. Light weight and quick focusing. There may be better optics around but not at this price.

Sigma 60mm F2.8 DN Lens for Micro Four Thirds – Black
- Make sure this fits
by entering your model number. - Part of Sigma’s Art line of lenses
- Fast aperture lens for mirrorless camera systems
- Perfect for portraits, still life and close-up photography
- Minimum focusing distance of 50CM
- Choice of silver or black finish
This lens is a must have for anybody using a micro four thirds system. It’s light, made of metal and has great specs that hold up. Wide open the lens remains extremely sharp. In one of my images, if you zoom in on the hair of either the dog or the woman you can see all the details with no chromatic aberration of vingeting. The lens makes the colours pop, such as on the woman’s house coat and the dogs collars really making an impact on the images. It’s light weight, which makes it easy for anybody to bring on a shoot for portraits, or even doing some street portraits. Really this lens is made for portraits, or even some claustrophobic street stuff. The background separation (or bokah) is beautiful and looks almost as if its f5 on a full frame. The build quality is amazing, fully metal with the only down side being that the focus collar gathers greasy finger prints and scratches quite easily. Speaking of the focus collar, it takes up almost the entire exterior of the lens, and feels amazing when getting manual focus.
Just found my favourite lens. Excellent dof and sharpness. As with all primes you have to work a bit with your feet to frame the photo you want but the end results are excellent.
I recently purchased the 19 mm sigma art lens and thought that was great but this one puts it to shame, it has to be the best lens i have, very fast and sharp, quick to focus and looks great on my olympus pen e-pl6. I have some nice slr 50mm lenses with f1. 9 and none seem as good as this. You will not regret buying it at the really good price that it is currently.
Tack sharp and a nice lens to have for portraits. One of the sharpest lenses even on dxo mark. A bargain to have, given the price.
It takes an excellent clear still shot but i found it was not ideal for video due to lack of iss and also it makes an audible noise on the video sound track which seems to be the magnetic thing which stops the rattle noise. Swapped it for the more expensive sony 50mm 1.
I bought this lens mostly as some sort of test because i wasn’t sure that it is really this good, comparing to a native ones. After few weeks spent shooting pretty much everything and everyone in different weather and light conditions i can clearly say one thing – best spent £150 ever. Beats everything i’ve had so far and when it comes to colors, sharpnes and effective resolution, comparable to a 1000 pounds price range products. How something this cheap can be so good???.It’s almost like some sort of witchcraft is involved. Check photos attached – they basically as they came out of the camera (apart from black and white obviously, which i had to desaturate). Next lens to buy will be another sigma for sure. The only thing is, i simply can’t decide which one. Shame you can’t have them all at once. Ps>all photos shot with sony a6000 at natural light, no flash, no screens, no heavy editing (really – just a bit), tripod used for long exposure with fireworks.

Inexpensive lens with quality optics, primes are vastly superior to zooms this is a perfect partner to the sony a6000.
Great price, great sharpness.
So pleased with this lens, great value for money. Haven’t taken it off my camera since i got it.
This is a fantastic lens and a absolute bargain. I have this lens on my olympus e-pl5 and it produces wonderful portrait pictures. Great wide open and even better stopped down a bit. It comes with a very nice pouch to keep it clean and protected. It does rattle a bit when the camera is off but once turned on is silent in operation. I can’t recommend this lens enough.
Arrived today and have shot quite a few photos on it already on my gx 80, with this body combo it has a very quiet shutter release and focuses almost instantly producing good sharp pictures. For the price of the lens i am very impressed.
Sigma 60mm F2.8 DN Lens for Micro Four Thirds – Black : This is sharp, maybe comparable to the 42. 5mm though the angle of view is obviously tighter here. No image stabilisation which would have come in handy, especially at focal range. Would be ideal for tripod mounted portraits to be on the safe side if that is your thing. Or just buy it coz its cheap like i did, whether you need it or not.

Works well on both my g9 and gx8 – nice and sharp, focuses quickly.
This is the best our of the set of 3 that sigma offer.
Thanks for reading this review on the sigma 60mm f2. 8 lensthe lens was dispatched quickly and arrived safely directly from amazon, it comes in the standard sigma white box with warranty card, lens, lens caps and even a great little lens bag which is quite impressive considering the cost of the lensthis lens retails at a ridiculously cheap price brand new and it has to be one of the best photography bargains going and shows that you don’t have to spend 1000s on zeiss or gmaster lenses to get great quality from your emount systemthe picture quality is so sharp it has been tested to be nearly as sharp as the highly regarded zeiss 85mm which is quite a feat for a lens costing what nearly 10x less. The picture quality really is great when paired with my sony emount lensthe build quality could be better, i am not to keen on the smooth focus ring of the sound the auto focus mechanism makes when the camera is switched off but if i had to find faults with the lens they would be the only two faults i could find, the rest is spectacular and at this price simply outstandingi used to own the sony 50mm and its a great lens in its own right but for me at around 100 pounds cheaper the sigma 60mm is a better lens. The character is really nice, it is honestly really sharp across the frame the auto focus is very good even though it does not use all the focus points on my camera it still operates very well and is fun to use with great professional looking resultsi mainly use this for portraits and head shots but i’ve also got good results using it for candid street photographyit’s quite long at 90mm on a aspc size sensors so it will be hard to use in limited space which is worth noting before buyingid highly recommend this lens and it definitely deserves its 5 stars for offering such good quality at such good value, let’s hope sigma continue to support the emount system with such cost effective glassthanks for reading have a great day.
Probably the sharpest lense you can get for a sony e mount camera. Picture quality is amazingly sharp on my a6000 and the focus speed is good.
I bought my sony a6000 for portrait work, and this lens is fantastic, i was recommended this by a friend. All i can say that for the specs and picture quality, this is certainly value for money.

Having purchased an olympus epl6, i decided that, as good as the ‘kit’ lens may be, i felt i wanted something faster and that packed more of a punch. 60mm seemed just right for my purpose. The lens arrived in the customary case, but minus instructions. If focuses fast and, being f2. 8, performs excellently, given it’s price point. I take the point made by other reviewers, that the barrel would benefit from a textured grip, but that is a minor grumble, compared to it’s performance. I would have no hesitation in recommending this lens, certainly to any mft user.
Very sharp, well made, good value.
Simply brilliant, sharp and the best value around for sony alpha/new.
I like this little lens a lot. With an effective focal length of 120mm, it gives a nice reach and also works very well with a 10mm extension tube as a macro lens. Wide open it’s nice and sharp and it has a sweet spot at f5. Close the lens right down and my example loses a fair bit of sharpness, so be aware of that if you want some depth of field or it’s very bright and you don’t have a fast shutter speed to call upon. Focussing is quick and quiet, and the focus ring works very nicely for manual focus if required. There’s no image stabilisation, so be aware of that if you don’t have body based image stabilisation. It comes with a lens hood that is too short imo. The hood on the olympus 45mm is about twice as long and causes no vignetting, so i suspect sigma have pulled a sneaky trick and used the same lens hood on the 60mm and the 30mm lenses. I’ll confirm this when i get the 30mm. But the stumpy lens hood is the only big downside to this lens, unless you miss the old aperture ring on a lens. All in all, an excellent value lens that if used in its sweet spot will give great results from your m43 camera.
One of the sharpest lenses i have ever owned. I would wholeheartedly recommend buying this.
Great lens, which i would highly recommend. Perfect as an interchangeable lens.

Excellent optical quality on a sony aps-c sensor, great for portraits, autofocus is good but remember it’s a third party lens. Nice build quality, and comes with a hood and bag, it out performs lenses many times the price. If you are expanding your collection to include some primes it’s a must have.
Having read the reviews i was not sure how good this lens would be, i set myself an acceptable benchmark. The lens has exceeded this by miles and i believe for the money it is an essential lens for anyone who really is into taking portraits. Yes it has a rattle when powered down but this is just nit picking packed in the lens bag that is included – i don’t even notice.
Sigma have made an excellent lens at a very good price, you won,t regret buying one of these.
Good quality, value for money short telephoto (120mm equivalent) lens for micro four thirds. As it’s an aps design with a micro four thirds mount, it is bigger than a dedicated micro four thirds lens would be, but it is still relatively compact. Can’t beat it for the price.
It is a bit noisy if you shake it but that’s in the reviews, does not alter performance.
For those buying this for their a6000 or whatever else, know that you wont be able to use all the autofocus points, that only works with sony lenses. This can autofocus but you are limited to the center focus points, which means no tracking from either side of your frame. You basically have to focus on everything center frame then recompose. Its a sharp lens though, really good value for money, just a shame i cant use all the features of my sony’s af with it (there are like 100+ af points, yet i can only use about 5 of them with this lens) look it up. Wish i knew before i bought.

A 5 stars, it came with a few scratches on the focusing barrel, being silver its easily scratches i guess. But beside that this lense in good light is a beast. Tact sharp, i’m blown away by this lens for it’s price verse optical quality.
Excellent lens on all counts. Well made, very reasonable price and sharp at nearly all apertures. Centre sharpness is impressive even at f2. 8 with edges not far behind. 6 it’s tack sharp across the frame. A great portrait lens which could easily carry a zeiss label, but then would probably be three times the price.
Also geometrically very good – straight lines stay straight. Needed for taking product pictures. Ideal for this, does the job of usually times more expensive lenses.
The post Sigma 60mm F2 :
Excellent lens, excellent value.
