Panasonic H-H014E Lumix G Pancake Lens – Four Stars

There are a lot of conflicting reviews about this lense and i think i know why. First of all, as philip bloom says, ‘it looks ridiculous but it works’, there’s no image stabilisation and if you don’t have a panasonic g series camera, there’s a lot of barrel distortion. However, if you do have a panasonic g series camera, the barrel distortion is eliminated and you have a great lense for indoor shots of people, landscapes when the sun goes down and a great lense for street photography. It’s so small and unobtrusive, people won’t give you a second look with such a crappy looking lense, which is great for guerilla style shooting. As for other endorsements, craig mod highly recommends this lense and reckons it’s a good companion to the 20mm 1. 4) and steve huff, whose site has become a bit of an institution, loves it and says its colours, sharpness and contrast are fantastic. If you compare it to the similar olympus lenses, it’s way sharper than the 17mm and as sharp as the olympus 12mm, though it’s not as sharp around the edges, but the olympus 12mm is more than twice the price and it’s a lot bulkier. The auto-focus is very fast on this lense, which is one of its strongest selling points. So, should you get this lense?. I would definitely think so. If you’re thinking of going into anamorphic video then it performs excellently.

So far all pics taken with this have been very good. Is much better at indoor work than teh standard zoom lens that comes with the camera.

Tack sharp, i am loving this lens on the gh3. Really lovely build quality and fits perfectly. Video and photo quality is lovely.

I have the 20mm lens which sets the standard this one does not quite live up to, so it doesnt get used that much. The image is ok but a bit soft.

Ideal for holiday photos where you dont want to lug a big camera and lens around, can fit camera with this lens on in a compact carry case.

Tiny lens and makes for a very small package vs an slr. The price is fair vs the quality of images that can be produced.

  • Bang for buck

  • Super small fact lens

  • Very nice with the DMC-GM1

Compact, discreet and very sharp. A delight to use and it produces some get images.

A good addition to my camera allowing an slr to be more like a compact.

I bought this used and was prepared for some softness at the edges and vignetting but have been pleasantly surprised – oops sorry can’t show the link to my online photo or insert one. . Pity as it would demonstrate virtually edge to edge sharpness wide open at f2. Have i got an exceptional copy or something?. I am more than pleased with the results. As well as the landscape performance it has worked excellently for indoor artificial lit movies (silent operation and on face tracking no probs with low light focus) and stills. 7 yet but meanwhile this has more than justified it’s purchase – i recommend it highly for what it’s worthcheers.

No hassle with it, nice an compact to use and great to travel with when going on holidays.

Bought for camera to go with the other accessories. The lens does what it is supposed to do, very good price for panasonic product.

Briefly, this is a very small and compact lens and the range is useful. Significantly wider than the 20mmm.

I wasn’t sure what to expect, especially following a bunch of negative reviews in relation to the packaging. But i have to say i’m glad i bought the lens, it works and it works well, no buts if’s or maybes.

Really pleased with this great lens that has produced excellent pictures and would consider using this seller again in the future.

I bought this lens for a trip we were taking to see the northern lights (hopefully ) in alta, norway. The lens worked brilliantly and the photos were exceptional. Also the lens made the camera very compact, so much so, that i could fit it into my jacket pocket.

I fitted this lens to my olympus epl-1 to make it more portable and instantly ready once the camera is switched on. It totally fulfills my expectation and i have so far used it for document copying in ultra close up mode and for good portraits as well a lot of snapshots.

Pretty nice pankake lens, it’s now permanently mounted on my dmc-gm1. Of course it could be a notch faster but then again, wide open and close-ish still allows you to isolate the subject. One thing i miss is a slightly closer focusing distance; given that it’s a reasonably wide lens, the focusing distance doesn’t allow you to come very close to some subject.

Compact and Lightweight Pancake Lens

Ordered this with some trepidation but assumed as panasonic had put their name on it the lens would be alright. It arrived in satisfactory but unprofessional packaging but once unpacked i could see that he lens was fine and fitted my lumix g5 as intended. I also order the jjc lens hood lh46gf to go with it. Now the good news , i went off to the lake district and it works a treat and does just what i wanted. The fixed wide aperture does mean that it performs well in low light.

Despite being in plain box it seems the perfect lens at as good price.

After the 20mm, another great micro four thirds lens.

Good wideangel for everyday use, not too extreme. Good sharpnes and good contrast.

As a compact wide angle lens at a competitive price this is hard to beat. Takes sharp photos and is superb for landscapes. Performance with video is poor with some distortion so i could not recommend this lens as an everyday lens. However if you need a wide angle lens for travel photography i would definitely add this to your collection. Couple it with a telephoto with hd video and you probably have all the lenses you need.

The standard lumix zoom lens is good but this one is slightly faster making it my prefered lens of inside shots.

14mm (35mm camera equivalent: 28mm) Wide-angle view and bright F2.5 aperture

Arrived on time well packed and saved me £100+ so well happy.

Equivalent to a 28mm on 35mm format, this can easily be classified as a budget, fast wide-angle for use on m43 cameras. I currently use an olympus e-pl1 and the lens makes a good match and is better value than oly’s almost equivalent 12mm offering which costs about 3 times as much. I have used roughly comparable lenses in the past for other cameras, including the olympus om1/om2 from the 70s, and others from nikon and canon for various of their film cameras and paid much higher prices for much slower lenses back in the day. For panasonic to achieve an aperture of f2. 5 in a lens this compact is quite an achievement and is partly due to the use of modern glass and lens formulations. It is probable that performance may suffer a little in comparison to that of a more complex design, but its performance is pretty good once stopped down to around f5. Few true wide-angles will perform at an outstanding level when wide open and this is no different. If you want to pay the price for a leica-branded design, you may get a higher level of performance and, if you were to use the lens professionally or extensively, you may be able to justify that price. I had read reviews for this lens before purchase and most were very complimentary, if not glowing.

Bought ‘second hand’ via amazon marketplace but appears never to have been used. At less than half the price it is extremely good value compared with buying new and a good partner for the panasonic 20mm 1. Makes for a very compact set-up on a gf-1 that is more-or-less pocketable. The optics are nice and sharp and the extra stop over the 14-45 kit zoom is well worth having. More would have been nice but the cost would probably not be competitive.

This is a very lightweight lens, a solid metal mount but the body is ?. This is not important as the lens is so small and sits well on my gh2. It means it is not at all obtrusive. Focussing in video is very fast and silent and the f2. 5 is really helpful in low light. Colour rendition is similar to other panny lenses i have ( 14-140 and 100-300) i now have a system with low light capacity and up to around 1500mm long focus in video, a great set up. This lens is a real bargain if you can pick it up for less than £200 (uk fun fun have it).

The lens works just as it should – bright, crisp and so on – but it arrived in bubble-wrap, in a white anonymous box, without instructions, warranty information and the like. It doesn’t operate or look like a counterfeit, but it does make me wonder.

This lens is ultra-small and so light to seems like a toy. Focus is fast, accurate and silent (much quicker and quieter than the optically superior panasonic 20mm). Optically it’s not fantastic, but for street stuff (where you’re looking at content more than corners) it’s fine. I wondered if the 14mm angle of view (=28mm on a 35mm-format camera) might be a bit wide for me, but i’ve been surprised at how much i’ve used it. 5 aperture isn’t stunningly fast, but it’s good enough for hand-holding this kind of wide-angle in low light (i can manage down to 1/8sec if i’m reasonably well braced). Overall, a good balance of size, price and quality. There’s now the panasonic/leica 15mm f1. 7 if you want a premium version, though that costs more than three times as much.

It’s small, focus ring is a bit stiff for my taste. Has quite a lot vignetti, which isnät that hard to correct in post.

Three Aspherical Lenses for Superb Optical Performance

Purchased it from a seller in hong kong, brand new de-kitted copy, very sharp already wide open and no decentering whatsoever. No warranty provided (as warned by other recent reviewers) but can’t beat the amazing price and as the product works fine from the start, then it is certain to work just fine for years to come 🙂 imho this is much better than paying more than twice the money for an ‘official’ european-warranty boxed copy.

I bought my panasonic g3 a couple of months ago and liked the camera right away, but the kit lens that came with it wasnt really right for the type of photos i wanted to take. This lens however is spectacular it has really changed the way i use my camera i now take it everywhere with me as this lens is great for street work aswell as landscape/macro work.

Great for landscape or family pictures.

Firstly i must say i am approaching this from the perspective of someone who has used dslrs for some years and wanted a quality backup camera that was highly portable. I decided on a panasonic lumix dmc-gx1eb-k 16mp compact system camera body only – black and being most often a landscape photographer decided this lens would be a good option to usually use on this body (which i have also reviewed). I’ve used the lens for around 3 weeks now and taken around 150 images so i feel i’m at a point where i can review this however i’ll add to the review if i find anything interesting in the future. This is the equivalent to a 28mm lens in 35mm camera terms so it really only just a wide angle lens however it is a very compact lens which keeps the weight/size down. I’ve found little that makes me regret the purchase so far. There seems little chromatic aberration which is good news and in the ‘usual’ aperture range (say f8-f13) the quality is just fine which is probably all i would expect for a lens at around this sort of price. With the aperture wide open the quality is ok basically. Worth noting maybe – this lens does not offer image stabilisation. The lens is not as fast as i thought it might be. I have a nikon prime lens for my d7000 which is amazing fast and sharp (& cost less than this.

Nice light, prime, wide angle lens which i use with my g1 and gf2. Great for landscapes as well as large groups of people and works well in low light.

White anonymous box, no instructions. It seems to work so i suppose and hope so.
