Panasonic H-HS12035E Lumix G X VARIO 12-35 mm Lens – : Excellent m43rds lens

Certainly produces the level of sharpness and contrast expected from its price tag, but i think it’s overpriced and there’s a lot of vignetting and some corner softness from f/2. Still, highly versatile and build quality is superb.

I bought the lumix 12mm-35mm fast zoom lens to use with my olympus pen body. Just to state the obvious, this is not a cheap lens. It does seem to be well made, and does have a constant and fast maximum aperture of f2. Best image quality is to be found 2 stops down from the max – and this is probably the same for all lenses. So how is the purchase of this lens able to be justified?. Well, with a maximum aperture of f2. 8, you won’t need fixed focal length (or prime) lenses with any focal length in the range 12mm to 35mm. By the time you subtract the price of 2 prime lenses from the price of this one, you see that the premium for the zooming and the avoidance of constant lens swapping is not that high at all. I actually use this lens as my de facto “kit” lens.

The images have lovely colour and ‘pop’. I find i use it far more than i expected.

I managed to get this at a great price from amazon – so it took some months to arrive (presumably from abroad). A couple of emails to amazon were answered really promptly and helpfully – thanks. The lens itself is a beauty – it feels a really high quality bit of kit. I am still analysing early pictures but quality is evidenti can see why this lens is in a “professional” rangei suspect this lens will be on my camera most of the time.

However i need a more wide angle lens so i have sent back it and have bought a lumix 7-14.

great lens for stillsthe problem is with its use for videothe image stabilisation does not turn off when switched for tripod work. This may not show at the wide end. But zoomed optically &/or digitally it jitters & shakesthis won’t be a problem for handheld shooters or even monopods. This wobble effect is not that noticeable on a small computer screen. S lenses are noticeably more solid/stable. Lumix 12-35 not usable for interviews , landscapes or graphics/effects work.

I bought this lens to go with a panasonic gx7 and am very pleased. It suits the size of the gx7 very well. It is not too big and certainly not heavy. The build is just right – it is well made and the zoom ring turns with a decent amount of resistance. It comes with a lens hood as one would expect. The image quality produced by this lens on the gx7 is simply stunning and sharp – certainly similar to my canon 24-70 f2. 8 mk ii (the equivalent 35mm slr lens which covers the same range). 8 on a micro four thirds camera does not have the same limiting depth of field you get with a full frame camera at f2. 8 but the images produced using this lens are nicely separated at f2.

Outstanding, i have owned several lumix lens in the past and this is by the best, putting aside all the technical mumbo jumbo it is sharp from 12mm to 35mm on my gh3.

Lens is very good and worth buying second hand from this store. Only clicked 3 stars because it was sent in much too big a box. The lens was very well wrapped but would have rolled about in the box. The box needed packing in it to keep the lens steady.

The micro 4/3 system is clearly the most highly evolved of the compact mirrorless systems in relation to lenses, and particularly fast primes. However, what has been clearly lacking thus far are fast zooms. 8 from panasonic, together with its companion 35-100, now clearly plug that gap. I tested it quite throughly against my existing m4/3 mid-range zoom, the excellent panny 14-45 (far superior to its disappointing 14-42 kit successor) as well as some exemplary primes such as the stunning leica 25mm f1. Optically and ergonimically, it fared extremely well. The first thing you notice is the biting centre sharpness at all apertures; corners are down a bit, but still good. Field curvature appears limited, and stopping down to f4 seems to result in maximum edge/corner performance. My sample appeared well centered, with no apparent performance asymmetry. This lens clearly surpasses the already excellent 14-45 at all apertures and common focal lengths. It’s performance wide open surpasses that of the 14-45 stopped down, a fine performance.

I purchased this lens to accompany my panasonic gmc-g6 and it is fantastic. It is super sharp throughout the zoom range, fast to focus and the image detail is outstanding. And it is a lot lighter in weight than lugging around a dslr with the equivalent lens. Yes, it’s expensive but the other big brand 24-70mm f2. 8 lenses are very expensive and a lot heavier. This lens has to be in your kit bag id you own a micro four thirds camera if you want premium quality images.

Just bought one for sub £500 on ebay new , this lens was never an option at launch price but for sub £500 is worth the outlaythis is a fantastic lens but most people will be happy with the 14-140 lens from panasonic with lesser build quality and less low light ability but bigger zoom rangei sold my 14-140 as this suits me better never needed massive zoom range in a walk around lens i found the 2. 8 aperture on this took it for me over the massive zoom range of the 14-140.

Very close to being perfect. 8 lens is sharp as hell and the image stabilisation is a joy to work with. The only slight downside, coming from someone who uses it primarily for video, is that zooming in and out causes a brief flicker in the exposure/focus as it isn’t a true parfocal lens, rather one that digitally resets after each zoom. This shouldn’t be a problem for a majority of users as the change is extremely quick, but it could be more of an issue for documentary style filming.

I have had this lens since january when i bought it to go with my new panasonic gh4 which i wanted to use for making nature videos and not so much for photography as i have better cameras for that, but i may try it for photography too. I primarily got it as i needed a general good quality wide angle zoom lens, primarily for video and reading the quite good reviews of this lens. I haven’t really used it for photography yet so i can only give my review for the gh4 video. I am no expert on using lenses, especially on the gh4 since this is my first lens i have used on it and i have only used it for 2 months so not a long time. I am using a dell ultrasharp up2516d monitor on my pc to view these videos, so i can easily see how good the lens is on my gh4 videos since the monitor is bright, sharp and color accurate and has 100% rec709, 100% adobe rgb and 100% srgb so i can tell how good the resulting videos i take will be. When i got the lens, it didn’t have the lens box, it came in a plain brown box with paper for padding, would have liked to have had the actual lens box. It did come with a lens hood which i was pleased about. The lens is a good weight, not heavy at all and feels well-built being metal and with the weather sealing around the back of the lens where it screws onto the camera, this helps keep out particles like dust and rain. Still no dust or particles in the lens and i have used it a lot since january so that is great. Since i bought the gh4 to use for videos, my first real test of the lens was to record a 1080p video.

Bought this to use with my hacked gh2 and an af101 it is fantastic have to say, focus is faster and held way better than other lens i own (14-140, 20mm f1. Most of my use is video and for that it shines, don’t shoot much auto stuff but if push comes to shove this lens will cope and produce solid results use it in full manual mode and it is generating some of the best footage from the af101 i have produced (that includes some old but much loved manual glass). So nothing bad to say about it at all apart form i should have bought 2 – one for each camera. Oh and stills are pretty damn good too, combination of lens stabilisation and the fast(ish) aperture make this a really handy in low light.

I was very impressed with the build quality, and the sharpness of the lens,it was fantastic towards the 35mm end,but softer at the 12mm end of its range. After using the kit lens before this,i know the extra money has been well spent,my only complaint is that i expected a panasonic £50cashback on it,but there seems to be no information of how to get this?.

Not the best lens you can buy. I am not sure what i would buy instead. Probably a metabones adaptor for the ef lenses i have. Any suggestions welcome as i don’t really like this lens.
