Nikon AF-S Teleconverter TC-17E II – Five Stars
This is also a very good quality item from nikon.
This teleconvertor works very well behind the nikon 70-200mm f2. 8 vron my d300 body it effectively gives me a (35mm equiv) 180-510mm f4 vr lens, which is still very sharp in all but the extremes of zoom & aperture combined (ie 340mm & f4) if you pull back 50-60mm or stop down to f5.
Wonderful quality from this tc together with my nikon 300mm f4 lens there is no lose of quality at all brilliant bye.
For the price, you can’t go wrong with this little converter. No noticeable degradation in quality or sharpness and gives a quick boost in length to your zooms. It brings you up to 340mm zooming length to the 70-200 at f4. Considering the astronomical price of the 300mm f2. 8, i consider this a bargain and worth losing a stop or 2. Great for boosting your macro lenses too to really get that bugs facial expression of ‘oh crap’. When you loom over it like a giant. For those interested, using this on a nikon 105mm f2. 8 macro lens converts it into a 178mm f4.
It must be good as it is nikon. I cannot make any further comment simply because i haven’t used it yet.

I purchased this teleconverter to supplement my nikon 70-200mm f2. It works very well with both. Despite what you may read in nikon’s literature, autofocus still works well on the 105mm micro with this teleconverter, even in macro mode. It provides a significant increase in macro magnification, and image quality is very good. It works particularly well with the 70-200mm f2. 8 vr, with autofocus still functional, and vignetting effectively eliminated, as only the centremost portion of the lens is used. It is very robustly constructed from alloy, with no noticeable wobble introduced, even with the weighty 70-200mm attached. It is a rather expensive accessory however, and that’s my only reason for not giving it 5 stars.
I’m sure, like all nikon products, it is of the highest quality, does what it says on the box and comes highly recommended. But beware of its compatibility with your lenses, yes, i did check the compatibility with my camera on the nikon site and it was ok, however, i didn’t check its compatibility with my lenses. It may help others when buying this product to ‘google’ nikon af teleconverter compatibility chart for the pdf and check to see if the teleconverter will work on your lenses. It is difficult to give a star rating because i’m sure it’s an excellent product but to help others not to make the same mistake as me i’ve rated it low to catch the attention of others not because it’s a poor product. I’m grateful to the seller for refunding my money on its return without question as the error was mine.
I’m sure that this is an excellent product. However, what the description given doesn’t state is that it’s physical construction makes it compatible with only a few lenses in the nikon range. Go to the nikon site to check that it can connect with your lenses before you buy.
Good product but if you can afford a long fast lens you will of course get sharper results. I put it on my nikon 70-200 f2. 8 which made it a 120-340 resulting in soft images @ 340, the results which can be mostly tweaked in photoshop. I have a sigma 120-400 which @ 400 f.
This is the teleconverter to get not the 2x. My images do not loose anything in sharpness and its nikon so its made well.
