I purchased this thinking it was wireless- (my search was for wireless keyboards) so i was a little disappointed to find it was wired. I needed to do a lot of work and didn’t have time to wait for a replacement, but once i started typing, decided i liked the feel of the keys so would keep itthe backlight is easy on the eye and actually quite useful if you’re like me and not a touch typist. I’m not using it for gaming so cannot comment on how good it is for that. Unexpectedly pleased with my purchase.

The keyboard has a good, positive feel. The keys are a little noisier than my old microsoft type 600 keyboard, but feel better to the touch. This is probably because of the much vaunted scissor switches. The characters on the keys can be illuminated in red, or the light can be switched off to look like a conventional keyboard. The typeface used for the keys is unusual, and extremely clear. Although the surface and front of this keyboard are black, the underside and back edge are bright red plastic with hard rectangular corners. There are media volume controls and a mute button, but no media pause and play buttons. For gaming, there is a mode button which disables the windows button. This prevents the sudden unexpected shift to the the windows 8 start screen, from an accidental click.

As a gaming keyboard, with back lit keys, and a nice feel this keyboard delivers. However, it’s not perfect, and it certainly does not have a mechanical feel. I’m comparing this to my cherry keyboard with cherry click brown key mechanisms, and there’s simply no comparison, this keyboard is not mechanical, nor mechanical feeling, that said, it’s not just rubber dome feeling either, it’s sort of a hybrid feel, you can tell there is some mechanism between the stroke and return of the keys, and this is the scissor action legs on the underside of each key. They make the feel good, but nothing like a mechanical, and this can be good and bad; in a professional office you can’t generally get away with clicky keyboards, and are generally dumped with quiet, but rubber domed monstrosities, this unit fits a niche there, in that it sits between the two, feeling better than a rubber dome, but not being as noisy as a true mechanical. For the lone worker, or typist, or gamer, late at night in the dark the shade of orange on the backlit is nice, it is not wearying on the eye and it’s clear what’s going on. However, not all the key letters are fully clear, you can see the ugly underside mouldings of the key plastic injection moulds, which was a bit of a let down. So through the spacebar you can see the star shaped underside of the key through the window letting the light through. Other back-lit designs do without this, or smooth off the moulding underside so you get a nice smooth light through the key face. The form factor is very nice, the board is square fit, as you can see in the diagram, the tilt for long use is given by two fold away feel on the rear top corners. The cord is very long (3 meters on mine) and comes with a velcro strap to help tidy it away out of sight, it will connect to powered and unpowered usb ports, and i’ve had it connected to 1.

Before i start, i must say a word about the packaging. A very nice, smart box in matt black with gloss highlights. It’s difficult to get excited over a keyboard, but anybody getting one of these boxes i think would know they are being treated to something smart. Considering this is a £38 keyboard, not cheap i know, but nowhere near the price you can pay (cough razer), everything about it says class. The font used on the keyboard definitely made me think of trek. The keys glow a soft red, illuminated below so that the whole thing feels alive. Typing is very nice, more like a typewriter than a cheap keyboard. It has a reassuring robustness to it. The base and pop out legs are rubberized to give a good grip. The cable is about twice as thick as a cheap version and gives you a usb connection or a ps port option that fits on the usb. I used the usb, plug n play as you would expect.

Arrived super fast & included a free mouse mat (with a horrible logo on it so i gave it away )keyboard looks great and is big, comes with a usb to ps2 adapter, the backlights can be toggled on and off by holding down prtsc (the colour is actually very pretty and bright)another cool feature is the gaming mode, in which you press the mode button for (top right – led indicator above) i’m still yet to try this- but it seems like a cool feature.

I am going to review this product at face value and at the price at time of writing (£37. 99) and compare it to a couple of keyboards i have recently had (one of which i still use). Firstly lets look at the box and packaging which is good, functional and not too bad with very clear instructions on the rear of the box. It also comes with a usb to ps/2 adapter on the back, which although rarely used, may be of benefit to you if you have used up all your usb ports and have an available ps/2 socket. The back lighting illumination is very clear and shows up well in dark surroundings and is a major plus point (not all do). The key action is very nice and if you want a solid feel with very low key stroke noise similar to a membrane keyboard then this may well be the product for you (i prefer the relatively loud click of a true mechanical keyboard). The key action is very solid and positive which is a major positive and not like the somewhat vague feel you can get on cheaper keyboards and a lot of laptops. The form factor is very neat and it fits well and, at a push, would be a useful keyboard to use with a laptop when travelling, although it would take up a fair amount of space and you may be better looking for a keyboard that does not have the number pad included. However my overall impressions were very good. When i compare it to two recent keyboards i have had, the razer starcraft ii gaming keyboard and the razer black widow ultimate keyboard i would say it fairs very well to the starcraft ii which likewise made a claim to have a mechanical feel without being a mechanical keyboard and i prefer the i-rocks product to this and feel that the back lighting and keyboard feel etc are better.

I can’t speak for others or go into technical details but i absolutely love this keyboard. The light is a real bonus especially at night time, the keys are easy to depress and are even to touch so no missed letters it feels great under your fingers. I like the fact that you can lock the game you’re on so there is no intrusion. All in all it is a great keyboard at a good price for what it is and i am sure it will be used with my pc for years to come. I recommend this without reservation. November 2015this keyboard has now started to freeze on many occasions so much so that i have decided to use a diferent one. Really disappointed because i really liked it. Have downgraded to 3 stars because it may just be a one off faulty keyboard so giving the benefit of the doubt.

Excellent keyboard and delivered speedily. I prefer scissor switch keyboards above all others and have been using an apple aluminum keyboard for a number of years. The i-rocks has a much longer throw in the switches but i’m a convert. The complimentary mouse mat is a nice bonus.

I’ll be honest, i don’t play games on my pc but this is the best writer’s keyboard i’ve come across in a long time (and i have a big pile of other failed attempts to find the perfect keyboard in my office). The best description i can give is that this keyboard reminds me of a much more refined version of those supplied by ibm years and years ago. The keys have a very satisfying tactile response when pressed with the movement being not quite as much as the ibm keyboard and much quieter. The only downside is that this is a wired keyboard but this, in my view, is a small price to pay. I write a lot of words and i’ve been in search of a decent keyboard for a long, long time – for the price this simply cannot be beaten.

I really like this keyboard. It is very responsive and the buttons are nice and soft to the touch. They are well placed and spaced and overall provide the same features as any other good keyboard. There are a few special features for gamers: if you press the top right hand side “mode” button, you can change the typing/input speed to suit your game. 1 general mode which supports normal typing and web browsing and 3 others that support typing speed of 13, 50 or 120 characters/second respectively depending on the type of game and gamer. It comes backlit as a standard, but you can switch it off if you find the red colour distracting or annoying. Simply hold down the prtsc button for 2 seconds and it will switch it on/off. I rather like the colour and it is not big and bold, so i think it fits nicely in an office environment as well. The package comes with:keyboardusb to ps2 adaptera basic user manual which is helpful for the lights and modes features, but otherwise it is a very simple and straight forward plug in and play keyboard. For gamers there is an added bonus of the anti-ghosting function (ghosting is when several keys are pressed at the same time and not all of them work). It is not relevant to my use, so i can’t say how well it works. All in all a very good product.

Overall this keyboard is ok, it just doesn’t live up to it’s own hype. In use i found the keys to be very mushy feeling and worse than some membrane ones i’ve used. I kept mistyping on it as a result of this soft action and found it less than stellar when gaming. The colour of the led’s is bright and clear as long as you like orange. I didn’t find any advantage to using and of the extra modes that are advertised and wouldn’t recommend buying it for those. There are no drivers to install as it is just a basic keyboard, which is good if you want simplicity but not if you were expecting macros, reconfiguration, etc. The star trek like font makes a nice change from the usual, but other than that there is little to make this keyboard stand out in a crowded market. Overall i would say that this is a fairly average keyboard, a little overpriced in my opinion but not too much so. If you like the look and prefer a soft mushy feel to your keys then by all means get it, it’s just not for me.

This is a well-made, sturdy, wired keyboard that feels quite a bit heavier than those that come included with a pc. It’s marketed as a gaming keyboard, but my game-mad son wasn’t sold on this, though he thought it was a pretty good standard keyboard. He’s grown up with pcs/laptops his entire life and his typing speeds are pretty phenomenal, so he had no use for the mode button that can be used to go from regular typing speed to gamer, but did see how this would be useful. It’s backlit, which makes it great for use in dim environments (this can be turned off if you find it distracting) and the keys very satisfyingly depress solidly when used, which makes it easy for someone with arthritis to use, and for someone like me who tends to press very hard when using a keyboard, and who wears out the keysnot much else i can say about it, as it’s a pretty standard everyday keyboard for a user like me.

Hard to fault this – it’s got to be the best keyboard i’ve every owned – this is equally good for office work as it is for gaming.

Really like this keyboard, keys feel great, nice and responsive, keys are quite quiet, good for gaming (ie, no wsad etc clashes), orange glow is good. I just wish it wasnt branded so heavily :).

Typing feels very fast and the keys are quiet enough for my office environment so i don’t disturb my colleages. Backlight has a nice glow behind the keys which i really like. All in all a great value product.

I use this keyboard on my imac, as i wanted a chunky, more substantial keyboard rather than the smooth flat board which came with it, or my editing board i bought for video editing. This is supposed to be a gaming board, but works fine as a regular keyboard too. Similarly although it is designed for windows based pcs – complete with windows home keys – it works great via the usb on my mac (just remember that some keys, such as ‘ and @ are reversed). The backlit effect is cool and starts as soon as the computer is booted up. It also feels chunky, rugged and gives a satisfying sound when each key is pressed. This was especially important to me as i do a fair bit of writing, so wanted a tactile keyboard i could type on at great speed and find this a lot easier on this board than the flat ones i own. Overall i would recommend it, even if you’re not going to use it for gaming.

Doesn’t feel cheap and pressing down on the keyboard feels very good. It doesn’t make any sound which is very useful and on the back the 3 pathways for the cable to go is very useful. Keys very easy to press and overall very good.

getDigital iRocks Golem Keyboard K50E : Just amazing exactly what i wanted. Silent and the feel of pressing buttons is just great + i’ve gotten mouse pad for free which was a surprise. Amazing keyboard, i recommend it to everyone.

The product description focuses on the gaming aspect, which wasn’t the main reason i tried this when offered it on vine. I was after a new keyboard for more genral use as the manufacturers supplied one was very tired. The technical aspects of this are for others to explain, (anti ghosting?). Compared to the standard manufacturers keyboard i was using, the difference is quite startling – the feel is much more solid, without being significantly more bulky. This seems to me like a reasonably priced gaming keyboard, which will take more than a 30 million hits on a key before giving up the ghost apparently (no pun intendd) but which would perform well as an all rounder, and which feels like it will last for years. The only drawback is that it’s wired, but you cant have everything.

When this was ordered it was given that it would be a gaming keyboard. After using this for a while now i can say where as it can be used as a gaming keyboard and with mode selection to increase the response rate of the keys you use as standard for fps etc you also find this is a very comfortable keyboard for typing normally and for using all day. My previous gaming keyboard required two usb ports for power and was a shorter design so the numerical keypad and the keys like scroll lock and delete where only available with the numerical keypad turned off. That this is a full keyboard is much better for me as gaming is only one use for my pc. I do a lot of typing in a normal day, this keyboard performs exceptionally well, the keys feel comfortable and are very responsive, you know when they have been pressed which is great as it saves doubt when you are typing and even more so stopping pressing a button several times in a fps game and wasting ammo or doing something you really wish you hadn’tfor the price of this keyboard when you compare it against some of the more established gaming keyboards i would recommend this highly. It does everything you would want and can be used for day to day work without any compromise and then can be turned into gaming keyboard when your fed up with work. Some things to note, from the desk to the keys it is quite tall this was surprising but caused no issues with using it. There are no macro functions you get with more expensive keyboards so if you need this functionality then you will need to look elsewhere.

From the moment you collect the package you know this is a very nice, quality product. Open the box and the first impression continues. It sounds a tad silly, but the way an item is packaged, the thought that has gone into it, says a lot about whether a company cares about what it’s produced. And this is really nice: a decent velcro cable tie for the usb wire not just some cheap coated wire, a protective bag with a specific entry hole for the usb wire, the snugness of the protective fit and the usb/serial adaptor actually placed on the usb not just loose in the box. These little bits of caring cost money. A less concerned manufacturer wouldn’t think to bother. So that is reflective of an approach. And this keyboard does not disappoint once you connect it up. There’s nothing specifically unusable about the lay out and that helps.

The i-rocks k50e mechanical feel high-scissor structure illuminated gaming keyboard uses something from two technologies, modern membrane technology combined with the touch and sound of mechanical key switches, but without their expense. It still uses a membrane but with a ‘scissor action’ method of key springing that gives excellent response. The concept isn’t new and scissor-action keyboards were once common but reserved for the higher-range models of certain brands. I-rocks use two such mechanisms under each key for a smoother and more positive action. Its typing action is excellent and considerably better than would typically be expected at this price level. It does not quite match that of a mechanically-keyed board but comes surprisingly close. Unlike a mechanical keyboard, it is far quieter and less likely to disturb. Its keys are well-spaced and inset into a well that makes the keyboard appear slimmer than its extended key travel would otherwise allow. The keyboard is back-lit, a feature common to most gaming keyboards and a bonus for those who are not touch typists or work in dimmed room lighting and you can switch off the backlighting if you don’t need it (hold down prtsc for 2 seconds) although it isn’t dimmable. Although the keyboard is natively usb 2.

Slightly pricey, but i got this as a gift. It has no wrist-rest, but it’s straight at the bottom, so it is compatible with any 3rd party wrist pads. Other than that, it’s perfectly fine. I like the fact that even the height-adjustment legs have rubber pads underneath, so this keyboard will sit solidly on the desk. The underside has a long groove which allows me to choose which side the cable will come out of. The leds light up consistently from all angles, and they have an orange colour at just the right brightness. The ‘scissor’ keys have a very pleasing feel with a ‘snapping’ sweet-spot. The membrane part of the action allows you to type somewhat silently. If examined from up-close, the typeface on the keys has a subtle ‘serif’ to it, and is reminiscent of fantasy-themed rpgs. I was surprised to see the euro sign on the ‘4’ key, together with the dollar sign.

The first thing that strikes you about this keyboard is the weight, it is solid and combined with the rubber on its bottom it just clings to your desk and stays put in the most enthusiastic of sessions. The keys are not silent but then only give a gentle prodding sound which is just enough to let you know that a key has been depressed. It is not a keyboard dedicated to just games, it works really well as a normal day-to-day keyboard. However, it does have three different modes of operation, the first is the ‘turbo 13 ‘ mode, this works with the keyboard cable connected to either a usb or ps/2 interfaces, this mode allows a maximum typing speed of up to 13 characters per second. The other modes, ‘turbo 50’ and ‘turbo 120’, only work when connected using a ps/2 interface, these give maximum typing speeds of 50 and 120 characters per second respectively. The best way to see these illustrated is to try holding a key down and watching the auto repeat, there is a very noticeable increase / decrease in the speed of characters being sent from the keyboard. I do a fair bit of animation/graphics where the auto repeat is used a lot, so this option is proving quite useful. In games there are times where you can’t seem to get enough keys in at a time, so this again be could be useful. And on that note i have to mention the ‘ghosting’ ability of the keyboard, sometimes on many keyboards if you hit more than one key at a time it is a lottery as to what you end up with, this keyboard seems to actually be quite clever, and fast, at picking up what you actually have pressed, this can be seen if you deliberately do the mad-man approach to typing where you try to press a load of keys at the same time, this keyboard copes well with ‘mad–men’as well as the usual collection of keys on a board, you have a sound increase, decrease and mute button. Useful if the surround sound system connected to your pc has the volume controls then other side of the room, and they work, unlike on some keyboards.

I am very pleased with this keyboard. I am an ordinary computer user, not a gamer, so my needs are fairly basic — a keyboard with a good action providing tactile feed-back. I am not a touch-typist so i want to be able to see the legends on the keys and finally, that these legends do not wear-off with use. Over the past few years, i have had three keyboards which have ‘failed’ due sticking or non-functioning keys and vanishing legends. I only ordered this keyboard yesterday so i have only had it for a few hours but i am very impressed with what i have seen so far. It came well-packed in a neat box and i just plugged the usb connector into a port on my dell gx-520 system, running linuxmint. It was immediately recognised and functions perfectly. The back-lit legends are easy to see. One note for prospective buyers is that the illustration of the keyboard on the amazon site is a bit misleading. This shows an american (or possibly hybrid) layout.

Keyboards are something that many people don’t spend any time at all thinking about. Many people just use whatever came with their computer when they bought it, or when they need to buy a new one they just buy the cheapest one they can find. Either that or they just buy either a logitech or microsoft keyboard because of the recognisable brand names. Then there are a range of more particular keyboard buyers and users. Some ‘old school’ types are only ever happy with a mechanical keyboard that is intensely ‘clicky’ and makes a sound like a million iron shod hooves clattering over cobblestones as they type. Some gamers get obsessive over the number of keys you can use at the same time. Others are mostly interested in having keyboard that looks ‘nice’ and only think about the technical details and the feel of the keyboard in use after they have bought it. My priorities are feel first, and all the other stuff second. I do quite a lot of typing so i like my keyboards to feel good, not too soft and not too hard and clicky. I like the keys to be a good size and be laid out well so everything falls under my fingers easily and i don’t have to spend time adjusting to the location of shift keys and so on.

Although this keyboard is designed for gaming, it proves to be a really first rate keyboard for the non gamer too. It is solidly constructed and is connected by a robust, thicker than normal usb cable. The keyboard is highly responsive to touch and has the great benefit of having an illuminated keyboard which is brilliant. You see the keys so much easier and consequently i found i could type much faster. I am really delighted with this keyboard, so much better than my previous one and i can absolutely recommend it for non gamers like myself who want something better than the standard keyboard. Other reviewers have gone into detail about the gaming aspect, but this keyboard is so good in other ways that it is worth reviewing for that purpose alone.

Brilliant great keybored apart from i dropped a crisp and now my n button sticks but that’s probably my fault. But other then that its a great feel and looks awesome at night for the price you cant go wrong.

I can honestly say you cant find a better keyboard for this price. I just love typing on it, heck, the only reason i’m writing this review is because of it. For all intents ant purposes, it sounds and feels like a cherry brown keyboard. It’s sturdy, already dropped it a few times. The backlighting is nice and functional. Don’t care too much about the mode button, but it’s nice to have if i grow out 10 extra fingers. What can i say, it’s a neat keyboard.

Keyboard had four bouncy keys which produced double-characters every three or four presses. Star trek font for the keys was nice. Key motion was nice, so light and responsive.

I used to have a cherry keyboard and it was the bees knees. It lasted me for years of working at the keyboard. When it eventually died i replaced it with a microsoft gaming keyboard which was good, but not a cherry keyboard. I never thought i would find a keyboard to rival the cherry, but now i havethe keyboard has a solid and luxurious feel to it. It oozes sex appeal as soon as you take it out of the box. Every key press has a positive feel to it and you can just tell it was built to last. It is plug n play compatible with my windows 8 machine and worked as soon as it was plugged in. The functionality isn’t quite the same as my old ms gaming board that had macros and quick app launch buttons, but the quality makes up for it. You can mash your fists into the keyboard for hours and it will still be working fine – not that i recommend this). This truly is the 4×4 of the keyboard world.

This is quite a bulky keyboard by the standards of some, but it feels strong and the keys are well balanced and work well. The red backlight under the keys is pleasing, but can be switched off if it becomes intrusive. Certain zones of the keyboard allow for a large number of keys to be depressed at one time (which is valued by gamers, e. When up/down/left/right are mapped to q,z,a,s etc). The keyboard is usb but also has a ps2 adapter. While this might seem archaic (and some pcs don’t have these connectors any more), apparently the ps2 port can be more responsive than a usb port, again which gamers like. The two fastest turbo modes on the keyboard can only be selected in this ps2 mode. Volume up/down and mute on/off can be done via buttons at the top right of the keyboard. I’ve found it quite a good keyboard for general use, having quite a nice click and travel of the keys.

A slight tendency to double-strike on full stops – but that may be my imperfect typing. Otherwise a useable keyboard with very useful internal illumination of the keys, for when i get a momentary blank in my touch typing.

This i-rocks gaming keyboard would be appreciated by any gamer. When the backlights are in operation the keyboard looks absolutely stunning. My 16 year old ‘gaming’ son was given this to test and to be honest he really couldn’t find anything to dislike. The keyboard is black and measures 49. It looks and feels solidly built and is certainly robust enough for the average gamer, yet it is not too heavy in weight at only 848g. The led backlight colour is orange which looks great against the black of the keyboard. My son found the orange backlight just bright enough to see but not too bright as to be distracting when he is playing. This i-rocks gaming keyboard is classed as a scissor-structure gaming keyboard with double-scissor technology that combines two pairs of parallel arms and a high key stroke of 3. 8mm, this provides a really comfortable typing experience. Also thanks to the key design and scissor structure you only have to lightly press the keys to operate them and this in turn increases the speed of accurate inputs during battle.
