Thermaltake Poseidon Z Mechanical Illuminated Gaming Keyboard : Poor backlighting on some characters

Good keyboard, not exactly cheap but quality is there.

Thermaltake poseidon z mechanical illuminated gaming keyboard £61. 86 -uk layout- (prime)back lighting is bright and delivered at the correct angle as i sit in a comfy chair with the keyboard high above my lap. All keys are very clear and bright. Clicky keyboard isn’t too loud. Pressure needed to press keys is perfect not too hard at all. And is already cutting back on typos because of the active feedback. Keyboard is quite weighty with good rubber feet. I am reviewing the thermaltake poseidon z mechanical illuminated gaming keyboard. It has brown switches (£61.

Introductiontt esports is a well-known peripheral maker, especially in the eastern esports scene. They are a sub-company of thermaltake and as such, have a worldwide presence. They have a number of headquarters across the world so they can best help their customers, this also allows them to sell their products worldwide. While it can be debated that not all their products are designed with the western market in mind, there is no denying the impact they have had in the west in recent years. Not only do they make some great peripherals, they also support and sponsor esports teams and events. Today i am going to be taking a look at a crowd favourite, the poseidon z. The poseidon z comes in a number of flavours and today we will be taking a look at the version with brown kailh switches (to see what other types of poseidon z are available, click here). The kailh switches are used in place of cherry mx switches and are generally a more value-friendly switch though they still offer that great mechanical feel and performance. Closer lookthe poseidon z is all black with laser etched keys that will allow for the backlit to shine through when activated. They keyboard has a nice weight to it and just feels like a quality product and one that will be able to withstand some of those long gaming sessions.

Very happy with my purchase. I chose the brown keys version. Don’t let the chinese side of things put you off, the keyboard feels high premium, very solid and heavy. The keys have various brightness settings which is great, you can even turn them off if you prefer. It just seems so high quality, and at such a budget price compared to cherry keyboards. Only day 1 so far but i have the 5 year warranty if needed.

Great feel from this keyboard, and i’ve had a lot of mechanical keyboards, including a corsair k60 and k90.

The thermaltake poseidon z mechanical illuminated gaming keyboard is from one of several brands that has opted to use the cherry key mechanisms while maintaining a mechanical key system for longevity and positive action; there are several keyboard manufacturers who choose alternatives which may be design in-house of bought-in, here from tte. The keys are somewhere intermediate between cherry blue (probably best-suited to touch typists) and cherry brown (usually recommended for most users, and especially for gaming). The difference with the mechanism used here is that it is said to have a similar amount of travel but faster activation point more typical of blue keys but without their clickier sound, the difference being quite significant. Unusually, the manufacturer is backing the mechanism with a 5-year guarantee. The keyboard is far more affordable than many others of its type. The board, on first appearance, is that it is quite standard and without any additional specific macro or gaming keys. There isn’t much in the way of wasted space as the key rows and columns are about as edge-to-edge as could possibly be delivered. The base of the board is a solid lump of metal which adds to its weight and stability. The keyboard is wired, most gaming keyboards are, and backlit in blue with an led under each keycap, all of which are profiled (most are concave). There are four levels of illumination with fn-f11/fn-f12 taking you unidirectionally through the levels.

Nice keyboard with good mechanical keys. I bought this for the key illumination, but unfortunately the lighting is somewhat quirky. The full stop and comma are not lit well, whereas the shifted characters (< and >) are well lit. Also the top row (numbers not function keys) have the shifted characters under the main character, not over as would be expected. Here too the secondary characters are hardly lit. So for programming, where you need to use a lot of punctuation and special characters on the top row, it’s pretty much useless. This is the third keyboard i’ve had trying to get the holy grail of illumination.

Great keyboard with a premium feel to it, the press of every button is enjoyable. Not too noisy and great for both computer games and office related business.
