Sigma 50-200mm f4-5 – Very handy tele lens!

Good value for a modern lens with all features, as long as you do not intend to use in very low light situations on full zoom. Extremely good on sunny days with speed, but as with all lower aperture lenses shutter speed goes down on cloudy days, but it does have antishake which can be used in this situation, a great help.
I must say this lens is really good. Photos are very sharp, much better than those taken with kit lenses. I preferred this size (50-200mm) than lenses up to 300mm, because they are too big and you must have a tripod to shot a good photo at the full zoom. What is noteworthy that it has an image stabilisation which works even better than this built-in one in sony alphas, metal mount and it’s made with very nice (cosy) plastic. Overall it’s a perfect, more advanced than kit, lens when you’re photographing animals, sport or just need slightly more zoom.
This is the sigma 50-200mm dslr telephoto zoom lens designed for nikon cameras with a ‘nikon f’ mount as well as other compatible cameras. It features a lens aperture of f4-5. 6, 4x optical zoom, and a 55mm thread size (which can been changed by using stepping rings if necessary. ) the biggest selling point of this lens however is the optical image stabilization and hypersonic motor – both of which is a surprising but welcome addition to a ‘budget lens. ‘it does however have its problems that no doubt reflect the price tag. Many images lack sharpness and also produce results that seem soft in places. Chromatic aberration and even some barrel distortion does occur towards the telephoto end of the lens that is difficult to compensate for. Finally focusing can be a problem in low light conditions. However there are plenty of redeeming features here that save the lens. I’ve already mentioned the ois and hs motor, but build quality is pretty good.
Bought this lens cos it was very low price and have no regrets, the quality of the pickture you can’t expect to better at this price range, so realy well spent money.
I was debating this or the budget nikon version for my d5100. The nikon has great optic reviews but when you pick the 2 lenses up the sigma feels much better quality. I had a failure on my old d70 with a nikon budget lens after about 18 months and this really swayed me to try the sigma. So far been very impressed and cant fault it for value. Quick to focus and images seem sharp to me across the range.
Have used the lens on a pentax k10d it works well giving good images. I have found it very useful for taking pictures of flowers in beds or on bushes. The hypersonic motor is fantastic. I would recommend this lens.
