Razer widow Ultimate Elite Mechanical Keyboard : The price though

I purchased this for my son on his request. I read the reviews with him before we bought it so we knew what to expect and they were right. It is sturdy / heavy so stays in place , doesn’t get knocked off the desk. Flashy to look at with the green lighting. Bit noisy, took a bit of getting used to hearing him bash the keys, but not as bad as i expected.

This item it perfect, i’ve used it for several months now and it is fantastic. It’s noisy yes, but it’s much better than the logitech g15 i had in terms of feel. Though i do miss having an lcd display, it’s something i can get over. The macros are easy and it fits in nice with my other razer gear.

This keyboard is absolutely amazing, it has quick response times lovely backlighting and tactile feedback. I rated this 5/5 because it is simply the best keyboard i have ever typed on. For people who don’t like loud keyboards this isn’t the keyboard for you. I suggest getting rubber o rings fitted to the switches or but a keyboard with different coloured switches. I highly recommend this keyboard to all people and its worth the price.

This is a spectacular keyboard, the keys are tactile and nice to press, the lights can be adjusted to the perfect lighting quality and the matte finish gives it a nice rubbery feel. My only problem is that with my keyboard, (and i think its only mine) when i install razer synapse my keyboard lights don’t work. I have no idea as to why this might be but nobody else seems to be having this problem and i dont really need macros anyway so i’m not too concerned. Also if you are looking for a quiet experiance with this keyboard you will have to buy the stealth edition as this one has cherry mx blue switches and is really loud. But i enjoy the noise it makes so this doesn’t bother me either. Great product and i will be buying from razer in the future.

I chose the razer blackwidow ultimate for the mx blue switches. The feeling when typing on this type of mechanical keyboard is amazing. Finally i can type on a keyboard that doesn’t feel cheap. This keyboard actually feels like people have been working on it thoroughly. The addition of function keys is welcome, and isn’t necessarily included in other keyboards. Also, i have found that the green backlighting is very useful, not only at night. With the lights off, the keys don’t pop as much, and once you turn the lights on, you won’t go back. I doesn’t even feel like the keys are backlighted actually, but that there is simply a coat of paint on them. The only hiccup that i’ve encountered is the fact that the symbols are under the numbers on the upper-keys, and not above them, as i was used to in all my other keyboards. None the less, i got used to it after a couple of days.

I feel like a pro every time i use it. Macros are easily customizable. Buttons feel great, extra usb slot is an great touch, games don’t freeze up in hectic firefights. If you love games you’ll love this. Although please be warned, this is hooked up to a gaming device which shares a room with somebody sleeping, the clicking of the (beautiful) keys may wake them up and much grouchiness may ensure.

This is a five star keyboard in almost every way. It’s heavy and solid, the build quality is sublime, but there are two things i can’t get over. First, it’s backlit, but only the main characters, not the symbols. So the ‘8’ key will have the ‘8’ illuminated, but not the ‘*’ on the 8 key. Second, and this is a big one, the noise is painful. As the review title says, it’s like a bag of glass marbles dropped from a height onto a slate floor. I just don’t see why it can’t be mechanical and have some mechanical dampening of the sound.

I have been looking for a replacement keyboard for a while now, the g19 was amazing but in the end keys slowly started to fail after around 1. 5 years, not really funny for such an expensive keyboard. I saw the razor ages ago but it has green backlighting while my pc is red so i said no. But now the green is fine even next to a red lit pc. If you don’t like clicky keys then don’t buy this keyboard as the keys do click quite loud, and so you know just the main letters/symbols/numbers light up not like the g19 where everything lit up e. G 1234 will be lit but the alternatives ‘£$ won’t, not a big deal but just thought i would point that out. The keys are highly responsive and this does actually help you type faster as you are not constantly having to push the keys all the way down like on a membrane keyboard, it registers even the lightest press which is great. So thumbs up for typing, now for gaming. Mmo fans stay away only 5 programmable keys, however if you are a patient person then you can actually have all the keys programmed by using razors software so endless possibilities. You can swap key strokes over too so when you play those annoying games where c is crouch instead of ctrl (my pref) you can always have the ctrl key register as c or you can have each key register as a macro (i don’t use them much).

I will not rewrite the other review that are already here, in some way or form they have said everything positive i would say. The keyboard is heavy and well made, the keys give great feedback, the lighting looks awesome and can be adjusted to your taste in terms of intensity. The matt surface is more resistant to fingerprints that previous gloss versions and recording macros through synapse is easy although the software can still be a little buggy, with this in mind here’s my tip:keyboard backlighting does not come on?when you create a profile in synapse for a specific game or task and click the check-box that tells the keyboard lighting to turn off when the screen turns off – this can lead to problems down the line whereby the lighting on the keyboard does not come on even when the screen is on. Synapse may bug out and not let you uncheck this box leaving you to think that the lighting does not work anymore. What you need to do is create a new profile (you can create as many as you like) in synapse and not check this box and there you go – keyboard lighting back on looking goodit’s a good keyboard, once you try a mechanical keyboard you probably won’t want to go back. Is it worth this amount of money, well it is if you want razer kit and can afford to have for no reason other than you want the best. People buy this equipment not because they need it but because they want it. I hasn’t really made a difference to my ability to ‘game’ as i’m not a pro but it does look excellent.

This keyboard is one of very many i have had but i have to say that this mast be the best one i have owned so far. The mechanical switches are fantastic for gaming and the satisfaction of using it is just amazing and i would recommend this keyboard to any gamer i know. Both the back light and the dedicated macro keys become the winners in any game you may play.

This keyboard has made typing a pleasure. They keyboard is quite loud and the back light is very bright. However the back light can be adjusted in the razer software or from f11 and f12. I was a bit concerned about the size of the enter button when i looked at the picture, however when it arrived i was pleasantly surprised to find a full size enter button. All in all it’s a great keyboard for gaming and general typing.

A simple, stable, clicky mechanical keyboard. Offers no real ergonomic twists (like a split keyboard and such) but is ergonomic none-the-less. Easy to actuate, the mechanical keys feel of nothing but quality and the green backlight can be ramped to light most small rooms. The keys are easy to remove for cleaning and easy to snap back on afterwards (providing you don’t mess up the positioning. But the premium you pay for the backlight is fairly steep. I haven’t used the macro buttons yet, but i assume they work fine.

I love this keyboard it is really nice, little heavy but does the job very well, only problem i find with it personally is the size of the cpas lock, a bit to big for my liking, i seem to hit it every time i go to hit the a button and is actually annoying, but other than that a great piece of hardware (not whilst typing this i hit the caps lock so many times whilst doing this review).

This keyboard is brilliant, it is great for anyone who likes a mechanical keyboard and even if you don’t you’ll warm to this one. The adjustable brightness and 5 extra keys is great and the software it comes with is brilliant. This is the only option though so if however you are an enthusiast (and are focused on things like the switches) i’d look closer at corsair’s line up.

This was my second mechanical keyboard which i ever bought. This replaces my previous blackwidow which i sold to buy this one. This is one of the last ones to be made with cherry mx switches, and its a real shame that they have started producing their own inferior switches but this board is a real beast.

Had this for a tleast a year now, and it is still bloody amazing. Still looks fantastic, and the cherry mx blues are one of the best switches around, so it is worth paying that bit extra over other mechanical keyboard. The led’s are beautiful, and it is easy to change the brightness. Also with synapses, it’s easy to set up macros on the keyboard for gaming.

I recieved this keyboard and after some simple installing it was good to go and i am extremely happy with it. The build quality is amazing as expected from a razor product and the keyboard feels great to use. The led back lit keys feel wonderful and look great in a bright room or a pitch black one. All leds luminosity are adjustable making it customisable to your liking which is a nice touch. No problems so far and this keyboard will last a long time making it worth the investment.

Razer Blackwidow Ultimate Elite Mechanical Keyboard : This is a truly epic keyboard. The fact that you can increase and decrease the brightness to whatever suits you is brilliant. And we’re talking brightness from very bright to completely off. The only thing i will say about this keyboard is, don’t expect it to be quiet. The mechanical keys make a very distinct “klack” as you press them. Quality you’d expect from razer.

As a computer technician and a gamer. I go use ohh so many keyboards in my days. I got my blackwidow not too long ago and the first thing i realised. It has some real good weight to it. It feels strong and well made. They key switches were a lot louder then what i originally thought they would be, of which i really don’t care about i find the sound highly satisfying. The instant i plugged the keyboard and turned the backlighting up to full, i was just in love with the glow. Overall;+ fast to type on+ incredibly high quality build+ lovely 20 ish levels of intensity on the backlight+ 5 dedicated macro switches. Basically everything is lovely and i can’t fault it.

When i first got this keyboard i must admit i wasn’t to happy as i’d never used a mechanical keyboard before and found the keys to be too small compared to other keyboards i’d used making it harder to type with my large hands. However after a few weeks and with some effort you will adapt to this in no time, now the keys feel great and are very satisfying for all my gaming/programming needs. Just don’t expect to become a speed demon typist on day one like i did =. ]

Absolutely brilliant keyboard. The lighting is extremely bright when set to maximum in a low lit room and i suggest the lowest setting is more than adequate. One small problem on mine was a very loud space bar that seem to have a small echo every time it is pressed in the middle?.

This is only slightly cheaper then the 2014 ultimate version but not hearing much on the new razer switches (which at the time of writing the review sound maybe even better then the blues) i decided to go with the blues. My friend had said he preferred blues but reds sped up his reaction times. I don’t personally feel i need much better keyboard reaction times via hardware (more skill then hardware now) so felt that the slightly better feeling blues was the better choice. I now despise membrane keyboards. I work with one and the difference is like rubbing your face with coarse sand with nails hammered into it, whilst the blues are like stroking your face with newly bought lace, whilst my friends reds are like newly bought cloth. Both improvements but the blues are far better. The keyboard isn’t perfect i mean the macros feel like they are part of the main section of the keyboard and i sometimes press m4 for shift and m5 for ctrl. This is minor and you will adjust. Old time membrane users beware that this is a huge difference which will take a while to adjust for. But once you have adjusted this will feel 999999x better.

I fought with myself to like this keyboard. The green lights look awesome. The keyboard is solid and the blue switches are a must. So how i ended up dropping the rating to 3*from 5 stars to 4over time this keyboard started to get a bit annoying. The macro keys on the left throw me off and i end up pressing caps lock instead of a (a lot) this is subjective to me(this i know) but i know of others that had this keyboard, say the same thing. The razer software(which you don’t entirely need) slows boot time. Even on i5 with ssd and 16gb ram i am finding huge timeloss in boottime when it has to load the software upon booting.

Love this keyboard, the sound it makes is amazing when typing, helps you type faster, amazing for people who play games like league of legends and world of warcraft, had no problems with this keyboard yet. 1 bad thing about the keyboard, it does get dirty and dusty very easily, in that case when i dont use the keyboard i have a case over the keyboard so it doesn’t get dusty, and when it gets dirty i just wipe it, but overall an amazing product.

The razer blackwidow ultimate 2013 is an extraordinary keyboard, i bought this last year and hasn’t let me down ever since. It has a very nice feel to it, and the lights on the keys are very helpful at night, using its ability to dim the lights it allows the keys to be very well lit but not so bright. Another feature i like very much about this keyboard is the macro keys, this keyboard also allows you to create a macro in-game and assign it to a key for your liking without having to stop playing. The gaming mode is also a very helpful ability, i had problems with other keyboards where i would accidentally press the windows key, taking me off my game at a very bad moment, but with this keyboard enabling gaming mode allows you to disable the windows key, alt+f4 and alt+tab. I don’t say this about a lot of products but, this keyboard is surely worth the money.

I’ve been using a membrane keyboard for almost eight years now. A few years back i read about mechanical keyboards and how they are so much better than membrane keyboards. Guaranteed to make you type faster, they also last much much longer. Over the eight years i’ve been through a few membrane keyboards. I did a lot of research before purchasing this keyboard. I decided to go with cherry mx blue switches for the tactile feedback and the ‘clicky clacky’ sound they make. I’d read that it was pretty loud but from using one myself, the noise level is acceptable. I’ve been using this razer blackwidow ultimate elite for about a month now. Coming from a membrane, it takes a while to get used to the 50g force required to press the keys. I’m a touch typist so it didn’t take long to get used to it. Very solid with great tactile feedback. 31lbs and it feels really well made. A few days ago i tried to use my old microsoft sidewinder x4 membrane keyboard and i couldn’t. Now i know why they say once you use a mechanical keyboard you can’t go back to a membrane keyboard. I’ve gotten used to applying 50g force to the keys that it’s near impossible to type on membrane which requires little to no force at all. 0 software is also very nice. Setting macros is a breeze, you can also adjust the lighting of the keyboard. Each key is individually backlit which is excellent. I thought the green light would be an issue, but after a few days of using it, i got used to it. The keyboard stands feel very solid and durable.

The keys are responsive the black light is very nice and it also has a usb slot on the side. I love the fact that razer products are plug and play. I have had no issues with mine i just plugged in it and its worked perfectly fine ever since. The keyboard has a matte finish which makes the keyboard look even more nicer. The mechanical keys are great and have a very professional feel, the key clicks are noisy but you get use to them. My only con is the fact the keyboard is green and you cant change the colour at all.

The response rate and the mechanical sound are both incredible, it’s a full size keyboard so it’ll take up a fair bit of room on your desk and the raised keys may take some getting used to, but the sound and performance of this keyboard more than make up for it. Followed by razer’s incredible software too, which lets you create your own macros and set lighting, of which each key is individually lit so each key shows the clearest possible. Though the clicking may sound loud at times you quickly become used to it and realise it sounds amazing.

Very bright leds with an excellent neon green ‘plate’ that makes the whole thing glow, instead of on some keyboards with led backlighting to a specific colour which have a black base, which takes away from the aesthetic. In terms of the keyboard itself, they’re cherry mx blues, expect incredibly loud clicky typing that you really need to intend to press the key to click it. Very useful if you like to rest your hand on the keyboard and don’t want to be accidentally flashing in league of legends or randomly start sprinting in a first person shooter from cover. As a razer product i find they can either be excellent build quality of awful build quality, and personally i think this is excellent.

In my experience razer always offer quality merchandise and they have once again met my expectations. The keyboard has a good solid build quality with a good weighty feel. The back-lighting is adjustable only be brightness (not colour) but still looks attractive. The mechanical keys feel nice and solid. The mechanical keys create a lot of noise and could irritate other. However, this is a general limitation of all mechanical keyboards on not just the blackwidow. There is a hefty price floating around mechanical keyboards as they are currently growing in popularity on the market. I can report that i am happy with my purchase and if you have the cash to spend then you will likely be happy with this item too.

Upgrading from my peasant keyboard to this, the difference is amazing. The keys feel and are a lot more responsive, i can somehow type faster and i’m not exactly sure why or how. It’s got a great solid build but isn’t too heavy. The click sound produced when typing is definitely noticeable but people in other rooms can’t hear me. The green backlight goes nicely with my deathadder 2013 mouse. As others have said it takes a little bit of time to get used to the macro keys being where they are, you can end up pressing them instead of ctrl or shift. Having come from what can only be described as a terrible macro management program from my old keyboard, synapse 2. 0 really sets the standard, recording macros couldn’t be easier and you can really do some advance stuff with it.

This keyboard is brilliant as the cherry mx blues are perfect with a light touch needed for the key to register and the awesome sound that the blues generate which is very loud which some people may not like. I found the game mode useful on the keyboard as it disables the windows key. I also found the aux jack on the side of the keyboard be useful for quickly plugging in headphones but i didn’t see the point in the usbs on the sides on the keyboard. I also liked the backlighting for gaming at night. I would recommend this keyboard.

Had it for a few months now, still feels fresh out of the box. No problems at all, delivery was on time and securely packaged. Software that comes with razer (synapse) is very good, with many different macro and other functions. Also comes with variable intensity backlighting. My one and only let down is that the keys dont change colour, but we cant have everythingperfect for gaming (particularly with the on the fly macro recording), and for general typing its much better on your wrists to have mechanical keys.

I tampered with the idea of buying a mechanical keyboard for a very long time. I finally plucked up the courage to buy one and decided to go all out. Now, this is the first mechanical keyboard that i have owned so i can’t really give much of a comparison but in relation to the £15 membrane keyboard that i was using previously, the razer blackwidow is truly amazing. I love everything about this keyboard. But, one thing to mention is the fact that this keyboard does use cherry mx blue switches which are very loud and clicky. Personally, i love the noise they make but i know a lot of people who don’t like it. So just make sure that you aren’t easily irritated but such ‘clicky’ noises. Aside from this, i cannot think of reasons why you wouldn’t love this productthis keyboard is awesome for both gaming, which i primarily use it for, and typing. One thing that my brother mentioned when trying out this keyboard was the fact that the macro keys can get in the way sometimes. By this, he means that it takes a little time to adjust to the placement of the keys, but once you do, they work fine.

First of all, yes it is very expensive and not much of an upgrade from the original blackwidow but. It’s just so damn sexypros:1. The black matte finish looks so nice, it will no longer pick up on finger prints. It has cherry mx blue switches feels fantastic, and all of the keys have them. The back-light is really good. With the green back-plate there it makes it look fantastic. And more, but most of the other things come as a standard for most mechanical keyboards. Cons:none apart from the expensive price, you can get better keyboards for this price. The reason i bought this keyboard and not, lets say the corsair k95 is because of the key switches. I personally prefer blue switches and not reds.

So this keyboard was the final decision after a good few months of searching for a decent mechanical keyboard. Look no further is all i can say really. Packaging – standard razer box, glossy and generally looked amazing. The keyboard itself is nestled in a cardboard shell to protect it from drops, and the wires took a bit of wiggling to remove from the box. It has a satisfying click when you type (think of a typewriter). As other people have said, you won’t be wanting to use this if you’re trying to be quiet as it’s very discernable, but if you’re like me when gaming the sound of the keys isn’t so much noise compared to your cursing when you get shamefully defeated. The keys are backlit and you can control their lighting level using the programme that gets installed when you download the drivers (the lights were very bright when i first plugged it in, so i’ve dialled it down to the lowest lighting and it’s still easy to see). This same programme also controls the macro buttons, although i have yet to use these. There is also a usb port on the right side of the keyboard so you don’t lose a usb space for plugging in, and you can also plus a mic and headset in using the two ports in the keyboard. I left these unplugged as i have a separate set of speakers for my pc and a usb communications headset, but it’s there if you want it. Finally, for general typing it’s a really nice keyboard to use. The buttons are slightly tilted so your fingers fall on them naturally and it only took me a few days use to get back into my touch typing habits again. The macro buttons are on the left side of the keyboard and they did throw me a little bit (used to tapping the ctrl and shift buttons but ended up pressing macros instead – luckily they’re not programmed yet.

It was a long awaited christmas gift for my gaming mad son. He loves it , says it’s the best keyboard ever, and we have gone through quite a few. The test with these consumables is how long they last so really i should be writing this review again in a year or so.

Very good looking and works very well, had it for a few years now i think. Only problems are when i’m talking to people the mic picks up the sound of the keyboard quite loud, and if everyone else is sleeping in the house it might disturb them =/.
