MIONIX Castor Multi-Color Ergonomic Optical Gaming Mouse : MAC users be aware

For me, a fingertip user, this mouse doesn’t feel right in my hand due to the shape. It has a shape similar to logitech g303. The sensor is great, the scroll wheel doesn’t feel nice, and i like the side buttons on the g402 more than on this.

Dont bother looking any further than this for a well priced gaming mouse cos you’re not gonna find it – the castor beats them all. In fact the castor probably beats most mice out there. The build quality is great and feels good to hold. The sensor feels amazing and the buttons nice to click. The software is great allowing amazing configuration of the mouse, and some lovely rgb as well. I play csgo, dota and overwatch very regularly. Ive been through 4 gaming mice, all of them more expensive than this, and its by far the best. My last mouse, the asus rog gladius (which i would not recommend btw) pales in comparison to this beauty. You wont be disappointed with this purchase, would recommend it x100.

The mionix castor is a great step forward for mionix for gamers, but there are still quite a few gripes that i just couldn’t get over when i was gaming personally, but first let’s take a quick look at the positives. * amazing shape, fits well in the average hand* great textures on the mouse and the rubber left hand side of the mouse is very well appreciated* the mouse has grooves on the left and right mouse click for your fingers to lie, as well as on the right hand side of the mouse for your wedding and pinky to sit comfortably* the buttons are generally very good and the actuation force for them to be pressed is also, very goodnow onto the negatives:* the left and right mouse button while playing specific games such as moba’s or fps games, they’re not the best. They use omron switches which are known to be very good, but while i was using this mouse and playing such games, it didn’t feel enjoyable to me, they didn’t feel as if i could press them at a very fast rate which is essentially for both of these genres. * there is also an issue with the mouse in terms of latency, the mionix castor has a latency difference of 11ms when compared to the logitech g303, now what does this mean?.In lament terms, when you are playing fast paced competitive games such as counter strike: global offensive, rainbow six: siege, etc you are going to be at a. 11second disadvantage over someone who has 0 mouse latency. All in all, i think the mouse is a great product. I think mionix have done a great job, but there has been a lack of contact on their part for over a year now, there have been no firmware updates in over 12 months and while the mouse is a great size, feels amazing in the hands?. These small discrepancies with the latency and the bouncy clicks make it hard for me to use the mouse on a daily basis. It is great for browsing and it’s great for specific games, but it’s not great on a whole.

The mouse is nice, probably cooler in colour. The wheel is a bit light for me but silent. The buttons are alright a bit easy to click. The main problem is the shape, i couldn’t get used to it because of the right side.

Got a roccat kone emp originaly, but was having doubts so got this to try side by side with the roccat. After some fairly lengthy swapping and testing in overwatch etc this mouse won out, its got a superb feel in the hand with its lovely rubber textures, very grippy. Its nice and light, the shape feels great to me, its very responsive and feels like its doing exactly what i want (its improved my game). My single negative is the scroll wheel is a bit rubbish with it very difficult to tell when you have gone up one notch. But overall im willing to let this slide as everything else is great.

I like everything about this mouse apart from the shape. Due to the right side of the mouse having groves for your middle and little finger it forces you to hold the mouse one way. Unfortunately i find this one way uncomfortable.

The mionix castor is a great gamer’s mouse. It had a lovely feel to the surface, being both smooth, yet offering enough grip to be secure in your hand during the most intense of fps games, mmos or arena battles in smite. The click actuation of the finger buttons is light but not overly sensitive. It connected immediately upon plugging into the back of my pc and was happy to run without adding any manufacturer’s software, which is available directly from their website. The packaging is beautifully designed and put together. Nothing massive and unwarranted, but subtle and stylish, hinting at the quality of the product it carries within. The rgb effects are lovely, but i will say, that once your hand is wrapped around this baby, there isn’t much to see, and for me, as a gamer, i find the swirling, pulsing colours distracting, so have mine set to one static colour. I was hoping to combine this with the mionix gaming keyboard, but alas it wasn’t meant to be (read the review i did on said keyboard and find out why). The response in mouse movement on screen is brilliant and easily customisable through the manufacturer software – although i do find it annoying that you have to fire it up each time you need to adjust something in it, rather than have a shortcut on your toolbar or desktop. The scroll wheel is light and very responsive, which is a book when needing things reacting to quickly on screen via the wheel. The button behind the wheel is out of the way enough not to be a bother, but sliding your mouse wheel finger back a centimeter will place it squarely on said button. The two left hand side buttons might take a bit of getting used to, as it requires the lifting of the thumb, so if in game play it can be easy to lose grip on the mouse as you lift your thumb to activate one of these buttons. Overall a very good gaming mouse by mionix, lovely built quality, great packaging, plug and play, good software direct from the manufacturer’s website and a lovely black braided cable covering to boot.

So far i instantly like this mouse -subtle, quality designergonomic feelnice click/scrollbraided cordvery nice movement feeling, no smoothing or acceleration (even though moving is smooth) and accuratenice packaging if you care about thatosx:- the software isn’t compatible with osx but the mouse still works well- i’ve noticed i need to re-plug it in when coming into the office in the morning, strangely if the macbook goes to sleep during lunch for example, it’s ok. Not sure what’s going on there yet.

Looks and feels like a luxury item. Beautifully presented in a very nice box, the mionix castor glides almost frictionlessly across most surfaces. It lights up nicely to look good in the dark and the controls are top quality. Definitely nice to have but whether it is better to use than less expensive mice, it is hard to say. But undoubtedly a very nice piece of kit.

Decent mouse, however not what you expect from a 60 quid gaming mouse. Im a mac user and i love playing games. I was using a 10 quid mouse and decided to buy a better one so i can enjoy playing games. Unfortunately it turns out that macs are having some kind of acceleration problem with their mice and i couldn’t play any games properly. Dont get me wrong the mouse is nice but software not working on a mac and that turns it completely useless.

Extremely comfortable for all grips. Best mouse for the best pricepros:sublime mouse, most comfortable i have ever used. Non-fingerprint matte black. Easy to use softwarergbhigh-quality materials. Cons:if i had to be picky i would say the side rubber feeling texture can attract dust.

I purchased this as a gift for my brother after he requested it. He mainly plays league of legends and call of duty. He enjoys it a lot, and says it is much better than the razer abyssus he was using before. I tried it, and don’t really like the shape of it compared to a logitech g502, but this sort of thing is down to personal preference. The sensor performance seems good, and there aren’t any click latency problems.

I previously used the razer deathadder and while it’s also a decent mouse, it doesn’t compare to the mionix castor. I had 2 deathadder’s that both suffered a double click fault. This mionix castor feels a much better quality build and so far hasn’t had any faults. It’s ideal for precision in fps games but also for general use. A must if you’re looking for a new mouse to replace an old familiar model.

The mionix castor is a great mouse; i’ve used it everyday for almost 3 months now and it has been great. Let me start off by saying its extremely comfortable and responsive. I play games like cs:go that require precise mouse movements and this fits the job perfectly. It comes in a strong, beautiful box.The cable is attached to the mouse however. For some mac users you cannot change the colour, you will have to change it on a pc then bring it back to mac, never the less it still works on mac (if you don’t change it the colour we be yellow. Greenpros:extremely comfortable for long sessionsleft and right click is very responsivetracks movements extremely wellfit well for small and medium handslooks goodhas adjustable lightingcons:thumb grip does not work too goodnot for very big handsgets dirty easily (however this also effects many other mice)dpi/sensitivity button is easy miss clicked and is a botherhard(ish) to cleancan’t change colours of maconly 3 dpi settingsnon of the cons above should be considered deal breakers.

I have mixed feelings about this mouse. The ergonomics are good with the mouse fitting my hand very well. Rgb is just rgb, nothing special there. The software utility has a lot of options available and doesn’t even have to be installed to operate. A major downside in my opinion are the buttons. They feel mushy and don’t give you enough tactile feedback when you press them. It becomes a problem when you are wearing a headset and can’t tell how many clicks you’ve made. Another annoying thing is that you can’t rest your hand on the mouse due to the second mouse button being very sensitive. It doesn’t take a lot to press the button and i found myself constantly missclicking it with my middle finger even though i don’t have large/heavy hands.

Very pleased with this mouse. I’ve owned quite a few gaming grade mice over the years, to name a few. Logitech g5 / g500 / mx518 / g400srazer diamondback plasma/3grazer deathadder 3. My hands are 20cm in length, and this mouse fits very nicely. Before this mouse i used the g400s and the 3. The castor allows for micro movements in fps games such as csgo. The mouse oozes class and quality. I highly recommend this mouse, with that in mind its all down to user preference, what works for one might not work for another.

This has become my daily driver and great for fps games. Preferred it much more than the logitech g502, especially for flicking. It also has nice lighting and is very comfortable but geared towards right handed people.

I’ve used a bunch of mice for work and play, but it’s hard to find one you like. I love how the castor fits my hand, which is on the large side of meat platter. That’s not to say it’s a big mouse – it isn’t – but it just works so well. All the clickies are nicely clicky and the scroll wheel feels like a rolls royce compared to my previous steel series. If buying for mac, then you’ll need to set up via windows first (the mouse has a memory), otherwise the tracking is paaaaaainfully slow – avoidif you run hot, then the matte coating does get a bit sweaty. My corsair m65 didn’t have that problem. All told, i really like this mouse.

Amazing shape for adult handsgrippy so easy to lift offgood buttonschange the dpi and the led color changes. Obvious design not seen on other brands gaming mice. ***however*** there is a problem with the mouse scroll wheel where scrolling is erratic or does not register. This has happened to all my castors and i have had 3/4 of them. Can you please fix this mionix?. Maybe fit higher quality scroll wheels?i’m trying other brands until mionix fix this issue.

Excellent mouse, feels great to hold and is awesome for its dpi and color customization. I did notice, however, that the pads on the bottom are slightly scratched and peeled up. Despite how this could cause friction, the mouse still feels smooth to move.

The first one developed a problem on the left button and i gave it away. Lets hope this one doesn’t develop the same problem.

Always find so many mouses are super thin and cramp my hand after awhile or make it feel kind of achey. This is the perfect fit and the price just makes it even better.

Perfect shape and sensor, i needed a new mouse after my razer naga 2012’s switches finally broke, i tried out a few others like the logitech g402 which is a good mouse with a great sensor but the weight and shape were really hard to get used to, the rival 100 was also another i tried but the ‘safe shape’ of it felt really uncomfortable to me. Finally i found this, its a really nice shape with a really comfortable rubberized hard plastic coating giving it a nice grip feel, it doesn’t weigh alot (around 86 grams i think), i found the sensor is super responsive and snappy and doesn’t rattle when you shake the mouse. Another thing i like is all the buttons on the mouse require significantly less actuation force than those on the logitech g402. As for the software it’s a little clunky but that could be fixed with firmware updates in the future, other than its easy to use. The only thing i can really think of that i dont like is that the cable comes bundled up in lots of short folds so its all zig zagy and catches of your desk so i had to straighten mine out for a few days, other than that the braided cable seems very good quality and smooth. All in all this mouse is a 5 out of 5 for me, really pleased with it.

So i recently bought this due to my mionix avior 8200 braking. This is basically the non-ambidextrous version of it, but better. So one thing that makes this the best of the mionix fleet the omron switches are really good, they produce sound when clicked down and when they return up, the rubberized coating is amazing and i honestly don’t want to let go of the mouse, this along with the rubber grip on the left hand side allow me to grip the mouse perfectly in my hybrid claw and palm style. It will work for any style though to be honest, very well made. The right side of the mouse has grooves for your pinky and ring finger which i didn’t like at first but i adapted to it, and have to say feels really good. The two side buttons are very strong and easy to reach, they’re not mushy, just perfect. I have two tiny gripes, first one being the scroll wheel i feel like it is too easy to rotate and would love it to be like the avior’s. Oh and an extra note about the scroll wheel, it is indented quite far into the mouse, just above being inline with the surface, but it’s quite nice like that, but may not be to your tastes, and finally the fact that the white colour leds have a slight pink tinge to them making white an unusable colour. The castors engine is very good though, a lot of customization loads of profiles dpi all the way up to 10,000, macros, just fantastic. Overall, would definitely recommend this mouse, i’ve had a lot of mice in the past, such as the steelseries sensei and rival, razer deathadder, the avior 8200, and this mouse came out on top, well done mionix, impressed me again.

After 2 years of ‘putting up with’ an existing gaming mouse from one of the big 4 gaming companies i decided that actually, comfort and accuracy was more important than features, macros and all sorts of bells and whistles. This is a pretty light mouse compared to ones i’ve used in the past and the sensor in this thing just appears to go where i want it to, i know that sounds stupid for a mouse review, and yeah, it does sound pretty dumb reading it back – but it’s just accurate, i know when i’m aiming somewhere i shouldn’t be, that is user error, this thing does what it’s told. I wish i’d switched sooner, as this is by far the best mouse i’ve used. Check out some youtube reviews from people who go into more depth, or take my word for it, i watched hours of reviews of mouse sensors (zzzz) and just buy it.

Looks great, very versatile and packed with features (but not cluttered) this thing is smooth as butter. Be prepared to whizz all over the screen until you get to the sensitivity settings. The shape is incredibly well thought out to adjust to any hand, mine being quite large, and is really comfortable. Hard pressed to find a better mouse at that price.

A really good mouse for the price but for me personally it was sent back. It’s on the smaller side so if you palm grip with a hand over 17 cm i think you may want something else.

Another awesome bit of kit by mionix. Its light, agile and responsive and features all the overkil you could want in the dpi spectrum with a simple to use software which will let you tailor the usage. From the rgb lighting to the sensitivity and optimization of the sensor on your surface. However i do prefer the naos series. I have reasonably large hands and find the naos a bit easier to be precise with because of how my hand sits on it. While the castor has a more traditional feel towards it. The naos also has a bar on the side which will let you know which dpi setting you have it set to making it easier to change on the fly. Something which urks me with the castor. Both are great mice however.

I have been looking for a comfortable mouse for ages, now i need look no more. This fits perfect in my hand (with the pad behind my thumb on the desk) or i find it fine in a claw grip type also. Loads of speed/sensitivity settings and changeable rgb on the logo or wheel if that’s your thing 😊.

The mionix castor mouse is a very comfortable gaming mouse. Easily fits into one’s hand. However, the scroll wheel isn’t crisp and the sensor began to stutter and skip after a year and 4 months of use.

Coming from a razer deathadder i wanted something similar. I liked the lighting and the shape of the mouse as well as the button placement. The dreaded double click issue appeared i looked for a replacement. I don’t like the aesthetics of the corsair units so it came down to a zowie fk1 or this, the mionix castor. I heard great reviews from both but the mionix edged out for me. It’s not at all similar to the deathadder, but is so much more. The braided cable, dpi button (allowing you to change different dpi profiles), rgb lighting, buttons and shape are fantastic features and the sensor is amazing. It’s extremely comfortable and well made.

I bought this mouse purely because of the accuracy of the sensor and that it has no acceleration. I was running a shogun mk1 which was a pretty solid overall laser mouse with lots of features, buttons and led’s a dedicated dpi switch with it’s own indicators and two extra gaming buttons on the left, only one of which i used (the other broke to sponge level quick) for fast pistol switching. The scroll wheel was also clickable in three directions, which i used for crouch and prone and nade throwing playing bf. I got so used to this that when using the mionix castor i missed those functions on the scroll wheel straight away. The castor scroll wheel is a button but only one way and you can program it, so i have put it as prone on one profile and nades on another, you can also program a profile switch button, but remember to do it for all profiles you intend on using otherwise you will not be able to switch again. Lol you can custom colour led each profile to indicate to your self which one you are on, but honestly i don’t think i will be using a profile switch in game. The led’s can be set to different colours and blink fade, pulse and breath, shift that sort of thing and they are bright even in daylight. One bug a have noticed is profile switching seems to set my led’s back to default yellow when going back to profile one. I have not done this in game so it may just be while you have the software open, i don’t know, easily fixed with an update i guess. This is the only fault or blemish of this mouse.

People say this mouse is the new deathadder, and as much of a bold claim as that is, they say it for a reason. The mionix castor is a borderline flawless piece of mouse engineering in every aspect. Through the faultless sensor’s tracking, the subtle elegant styling, the sturdy, responsive buttons, intuitive, comprehensive software and unmatched comfort – the mionix castor has solidified itself as the first, and possibly the last mouse i will ever re-buy instead of replacing with a different model. Earlier i said it was borderline flawless, but i actually can’t comprehend how anything could be done better on it. So flawless will have to do.

I’ve had this mouse for over a month now so i feel a review is in order. I had a mionix naos 7000 previously which i passed onto my brother as he needed a mouse and i wanted to switch back to the more traditional style of mouse. After owning a zowie ec2-a and a razer deathadder 2013 in the past year and being underwhelmed by both of them i decided i’ll give mionix a try again. The price is a little steep but what you get in return is probably the highest quality feeling mouse i’ve ever used. The rubberisation is better than their previous models in my opinion, it picks up way less dirt and grime and feels as though it would last a lifetime. The sensor is perfect as to be expected, i feel it probably tracks better than both the da2013 and the zowie on a zowie g-sr mouse mat. The software is good and i’ve had no problems with it at all using it at all and it allows you to customize the look of the leds, change sensor settings such as lift off distance, angle snapping, dpi, etc. Also you can change assignment of the buttons to any keyboard stroke or function and create macros although i’ve never really tried it. If you enjoy switches that give you solid feedback then you may not enjoy these switches, they have a quite soft feedback but feel solid. The side buttons feel top notch as well and are a little harder to press than the m1 and m2 buttons so you don’t accidentally pull out a flashbang, etc.

I’ve only had this mouse for two days but i can already say that this mouse is excellent. The sensor has no acceleration as far as i can tell and the movement is virtually one to one. The rgbs are very good (not for white however, they go a very light pink) and have good representation in the software. Very pleased with this purchase.

I’ve gone through many mice over the past few years, including the logitech g303, g602 and razer mamba – all of these have been great and i still have the logitech mice stashed away, however nothing has filled my expectations as much as the mionix, the surface is a matte type finish, although it marks easier than the gloss it feels so much nicer and stays grippy even through sweaty palms – a quick wipe down with a microfiber cloth and it’s back to looking fresh. Sensor and performance is great, i’ve had absolutely no issues with polling or lift or performance, something i did have with other mice.

I got the ‘legacy black’ color. It was 23 pounds, a perfect deal for such a great quality mouse. It has a rubberized texture, which feels very good to the touch and also improves its grip. I didn’t download the software to customize the rgb color, so i can’t comment on that. The only downside was that this mouse (at least the legacy version) doesn’t work on laminated wood surfaces (like office desks), so i had to buy a mousemat. Not a big problem, but it wasn’t expected as i had a cheaper mouse with an invisible optic sensor that worked perfectly on the same surface.
