Fujifilm Fujinon XF56mm F1 : Five Stars

It’s the ultimate portrait lens for fuji. The perfect 85mm ff equivalent that at f1. 2 gives you amazing bokeh and shallow dof that is desirable for portraits. If you want to up your portrait game, this is the lens for you. It’s tack sharp, and did i mention the bokeh. If you’re an ex ff user, this is the lens that you will want to give you that ff equivalent shallow depth of field and great bokeh rendering that you have been missing with the other lens, you won’t be disappointed. People often try to compare this to the 50mm f2, but unless you need weather resistance in a desert or the north pole, or you’re a street shooter that needs a compact and fast focussing lens, this is the one for you. If you’re a street shooter, you probably won’t shoot as many portraits and want more speed, then get the 50mm f2. Another tip with this lens, make the focal point on your camera smaller to focus in low light.

Not entirely sure mine was faulty or this is not a good quality lens as the 16mm.

I took quite some time deciding whether or not i should invest in the 56 1. 2, however, i’m extremely glad i did. Useful for a whole range of photography but particularly nice for portraits (85mm equivalent). Bokeh is stunning and images tack sharp. Focus is acceptable, although a tad slow. Focus distance is further than i expected – but i’m used to it now. If you can justify the expense – this is a stunning lens.

I have taken a few hundred pictures with this lens. You can only really appreciate it until you look at a large monitor or print then out professionally. Amazingly bright, nice bokeh which really does give a nice 3d effect at f1. I have never obtained such results with any other camera set up. I know the apd is coming out soon which will complement this, but i really feel that this 56mm is a work of art in itself. It’s a pleasure to use and i am only now starting to understand why this has such a hefty price tag. I highly recommend to get this earlier rather than later to avoid missing special moments. Actually, the family pictures i have taken are worth far more than then lens (like data on a solid hard drive).

The 56 has taken my photography to a new level. I use it for portraits and landscapes and nearly every shot i take is is a great result. It’s sharp, the bokeh is almost magical, it performs well in low light and it is of very high quality construction.

One top lens dont waste money on others save up get this one.

This lens is nothing short of phenomenal. It is probably the best portrait lens i have used (being 85mm equivalent in 35mm full frame terms) and produces pin sharp images and lovely bokeh. I also shoot leica m cameras and this lens is as good as my 75 f1. 4 and 90 f2 apo leica m lenses. Fuji are on a roll with the x series lenses, but i think that this and the 23mm are the jewels in the crown. Nice weight and lovely build too.

Superb little else to say other than for x users get it.

Typical example of fuji’s high quality standards. This lens pairs perfectly with the xt-1 and delivers some breathtaking images. 2 means results in a lens that can practically see in dark. I would recommend to anybody interested in street or portrait photography.

I got this from amazon for £638 because they said it had a slight mark on the housing, well no marks on it at all, looks and feels like a new lens. Well about this lens, it’s perfect.

I shoot with canon usually, but wanted to try something lighter for my personal photography. The kit lenses with the xt -20 are fine, but i missed the beautiful bokeh from my wide canon lenses. This prime is the perfect focal distance for portraits of people and pets. A little long for landscapes, but that’s ok. In fact this is often now my back up lens for pro shoots. Fuji lenses seem to be brilliant.

I rented this lens for a week for some intensive portrait sessions i had to do. It gives the equivalent of an 85mm f1. 8 on full frame (i have multiple systems). I like the lens the optics are good, bokeh is very nice mostly (not quite perfect)really my only complaints are lack of wr which i think for the cost it should have, and the af is slower than i’d like usable but being an earlier lens it’s not got the newer af motors of some recent fuji’s. If it’s worth getting i’m not 100% sure if you are a portrait shooter probably. If the price were better i might have bought it, it works out more expensive than my 35mm 85mm f1. 8 and i’d like a price closer to that.

This is a superb piece of glass. Ok, its edge definition wide open is not quite on a par with my zeiss 55 1. 2 planar but at a fifth of the cost and a fraction of the weight, i have no complaints. This is quite simply one of the best 50 1. 2s i’ve ever owned and i can’t wait to shoot some portraits – the shallow depth of field and gentle bokeh make this ideal for such images. Build quality is exemplary – i just wish the hood (nice and deep) was metal and not thermoplastic.

Oooohhh, expensive lens, but so so worth it. . Some of the best portraits ive ever taken are with this beast. Love it, and wont sell this on later, its a keeper.

This lens is absolutely fantastic, i use this on my xt1 continuously, in fact its atched to my camera for 99% of the time, i use it professionally and cant rate it highly enough, you can view a full review i wrote about this lens here – http://www. Uk/my-blog/fuji56mmlensreview you wont be disappointed with this lens.

After realising i used my 18-55 mostly at 55mm, i decided to take the plunge and go for the 56mm. The 18-55 is a great lens, but i was using it mostly for shots of my kids, and while there was nothing wrong with the pictures i was getting with it, at f/4 the portraits were lacking a little magic. The 56mm has solved that in an instant. The lens is sharp, quick to focus (for fuji), produces great bokeh and the subject almost pops out of the image. Before buying i was dubious about the size as i moved to fuji to have a small kit and having read on the internet about what a beast this lens was, i was slightly put off. However, after looking at the lens and holding it i was surprised that it wasn’t actually that big. To hold it doesn’t feel much heavier that the 18-55 (i’m sure it is, but not that i could notice) and it feels fine on x-e2. It focusses noticeably quicker and quieter than my 35mm and is proving long enough for candid outdoor shots of my children without them noticing. As this lens is equivalent to 85mm, i prefer using the 35mm 1.

This is a very sharp lens that produces awesome images even at f1. It feels very nice in the hand. But there are some problems too. My first one had some dust and a piece of hair behind the back glass element. Thankfully amazon were fast in the replacement and the second unit is dust free for now. Also i wish the aperture ring was a bit tighter and the af motor quieter.

Excellent quality and razor sharp. 2 where the bokeh is lovely and subject selection makes the pictures feel like full frame. On the downside, it is heavy and it is not as fast to focus as the 35 1. Slightly faster and it would get five stars.

One the best lenses you can have for fuji. Still lacks of fast af and wr.

Stunning lens – near ff separation and 3d effects, focuses quite fast (as fast as can be expected with a fuji). Unfortunately the one from amazon warehouse was pretty scratched, but i purchased another new one after seeing it.

My relationship with this lens is complicated. While i l o v e the bokeh from this lens i find it very hard to get sharp pictures, i understand that when shooting at 1. 4 the depth of filed is very very thin, but still, even when the shutter is at 1/1000th of a second and the subject is not moving it is hard for me to get all my pictures tack sharp. Maybe it’s me, maybe it’s my technique but at the end i am very frustrated when i see that so many of my pictures are soft (while i get 95% of tack sharp pictures with my 35mm f2). I ended up keeping the lens, because when you get a sharp picture – the picture is magical.

I am new to ‘prime’ lenses, and am stunned has to how good this sense is, it can practically see in the dark. Really looking forward to getting to understand the full potential. All the other reviews that praise this lovely lens, are not wrong. Not cheap, but every penny is worth it .

This lens is the perfect replacement of a 85mm portrait lens on full-frame cameras. The sharpness and the beautiful bokeh on this lens is simply wonderful on any x-series camera.

This is great lens to say the least. Everything – build quality, speed, sharpness etc. Unbelievable value for the price i’ve paid, the clear example of highest standards fuji is capable of.
